Chapter 1204: Chapter 1204: Fifty-Two Ancient Divine Beasts Pray for Blessings for Aruan
Xia Yunchen’s deep eyes, which concealed intense emotions, unwaveringly gazed at Qin Ruan.
As she watched the man approaching, Qin Ruan felt a surge of weariness from deep within, coupled with an uncontrollable desire to be close to him.
Her red lips pursed slightly as she spoke with a hint of coldness, "It’s too much trouble, Mr. Xia."
Dreams and reality, Qin Ruan could still tell the difference.
She didn’t want the residual emotions from her dreams to affect her real life.
The Xia Yunchen before her, having shed his western-style suit, was dressed almost identically to the lord of the Nine-tailed Foxes from Tu Mountain in her dreams; he was that exquisitely graceful Divine Monarch who commanded the ancient Divine Beasts.
Xia Yunchen seemed not to hear Qin Ruan’s rejection. His smiling eyes conveyed a touch of helplessness, as if he had anticipated the refusal.
"Qin Ruan, after knowing each other for so long, just consider it as giving me a chance to ingratiate myself with the Huo Family, so I can boast about it in the future."
His words were playful, neither sincere nor devout; clearly just polite banter.
Qin Ruan’s charming eyes teasingly mirrored Xia Yunchen’s amused gaze, "Are you saying that the unworldly movie star lost in the world of acting from before was just a façade?"
Xia Yunchen stood before Qin Ruan, leaning over to brush away the pastry crumbs from the corner of her lips.
His actions were casual and natural, and Qin Ruan did not retreat or dodge, with neither finding any fault in this borderline behavior.
Xia Yunchen’s lips parted slightly, "Just maintaining a public persona, in our line of work, what’s real or fake? It’s all for the hustle just to earn a few pieces of silver."
"Is that so?" Qin Ruan chuckled lightly, it was unclear whether she believed him or not, "It’s been days since I’ve seen you—when did you start growing out your hair?"
She reached out to touch Xia Yunchen’s long hair, pulling it playfully, causing him to slightly bend forward from the tug.
Even with his hair being yanked, Xia Yunchen’s smile did not falter, his eyes revealing an indulgent twinkle, "It’s for a cosplay of a character from a drama I acted in before, I had it styled this way, do you like it?"
Qin Ruan pouted and let go of his hair.
Seeing the sibling-like duo about to continue their conversation, Hu Yixian leaned forward and locked eyes with Qin Ruan, his laughter tinged with a hint of teasing, "The auspicious time is approaching, Ruanruan, if you delay further, Third Master Huo will start to grow impatient."
Because of his relationship with Qin Jingcen, Hu Yixian’s attitude toward Qin Ruan was even more familiar.
Qin Ruan lowered her gaze, her hand clenched within her sleeve gradually relaxed as she spoke softly, "Then let’s go."
Song Qing quickly approached the bed, supporting Qin Ruan’s arm as she advised, "Madam, once you step out of this room, Mr. Xia... Xia will personally escort you to meet with Third Master."
Qin Ruan stood up, slightly tilting her head, her eyes ambiguously glancing at Song Qing, with a playful curve forming on her lips.
Xia Yunchen maintained a calm and gentle demeanor, extending his hand to Qin Ruan, "I’ll take from here now."
His attitude remained as always, neither distant nor overly attentive, but upon closer examination, one could detect a hint of accommodation.
Qin Ruan looked at the hand before her and fell silent.
This was not the warm yet cool hand she was often used to holding. It looked equally well-cared-for but, in comparison to Huo Yunjiao’s calloused fingertips from handling firearms, Xia Yunchen’s fingers bore the calluses of a musician.
The room fell into silence, the atmosphere slightly oppressive.
Xia Yunchen’s face still held a gentle smile, while the others around became increasingly tense.
Song Qing, Changyuan, Lan An, Hu Yixian—the four looked at Qin Ruan with eyes deep and shallow, each fixedly watching her.
Huo Zhi was the only one present unaware of the situation; seeing something amiss with Madam, she quickly stepped forward.
Just then, Qin Ruan withdrew her hand from Song Qing’s and naturally placed it in Xia Yunchen’s.
The two linked hands walked out of the bedroom, and as they descended the stairs, Qin Ruan noticed that the Hidden Guards lurking about had been withdrawn.
Stepping out the door, she saw the courtyard filled with unfamiliar men and women, all with striking features.
Some faces were familiar—among them, Qiongqi, Taotie, and others she had seen in her dreams, but Rong Menglan was the most surprising.
With clean-cut short hair and dressed in a black brocade robe, adorned with a jade belt, his tall figure and commanding presence were as noble as the shining sun suspended high above.
Madam Rong Menglan held a fan of unknown material, swaying it gently. Her gaze met Qin Ruan’s in the void, where both nodded to each other with polite yet cold detachment.
Xia Yunchen led Qin Ruan by the hand, walking with steady steps through the path that the divine beasts had unanimously cleared.
At the end of the path, Huo Yunjiao, also dressed in black wedding attire, seemed to have been waiting for quite some time. Beside him stood Chu Zifeng, Ming Tianheng, the other nine Kings Yama, and twenty-five gods from the Netherworld, as well as various other deities of the Netherworld, both great and small.
Xia Yunchen led Qin Ruan to Huo Yunjiao and gazed upon the man before him. With his picturesque brows and an air that commanded respect, the Divine Monarch of the Nine-Tailed Fox internally grumbled with dissatisfaction.
The good looks of their Fox Clan had always been outstanding, yet there was never anyone who possessed the serious yet enchantingly bewitching allure of the Ghost Emperor from Fengdu. Despite being male, his unintentional charm was irresistibly alluring in every move.
He finally understood how his sister’s heart had fallen for this man.
From afar, Qin Ruan spotted Huo Yunjiao in wedding attire, his aura ethereal and refined as though he had stepped out of a painting. Behind him, all other people and scenery seemed to fade, as she could only see this one person in her eyes.
Xia Yunchen handed Qin Ruan’s hand into Huo Yunjiao’s palm. His gaze went beyond Huo Yunjiao and rested upon the table set up in the courtyard, with large red candles and incense burners alight on it, and his eyes darkened.
Huo Yunjiao gently caressed the back of Qin Ruan’s hand and explained in a tender voice, "The wedding ceremony only needs a declaration to heaven and earth, it will end soon."
Qin Ruan nodded obediently, without any objections, "Mhm—"
The two, hand in hand, moved towards the table. The black wedding attire, crafted from the ice silk treasures produced along the banks of the Netherworld River, created a solemn and heavy scene behind them. As they moved, streaks of light flickered across the fabric in the darkness of the night.
Qin Ruan and Huo Yunjiao stood before the slightly desolate table, with Ming Tianheng and Chu Zifeng each lighting nine sticks of incense and presenting them before them.
Just as the two were about to offer incense, Xia Yunchen abruptly began to chant, "Tushan Family’s daughter, wed today to a good man, Old Man under the Moon binds them with a red thread, a predestined match of lovers. The couple’s appearance matches well, now we inform the heavens and the divine spirits, seeking your compassion, wishing to never part for all eternity."
Once finished, he brought his index finger and thumb together to his brow.
The fifty-two ancient divine clans behind him followed suit in the prayer ritual.
Ming Tianheng then began to speak, his deep voice barely able to conceal his excitement, "Bound by a fate that spans a thousand miles, today the Lord of the Northern Dark of Fengdu takes Aruan of the Tushan Family, auspiciously tying a good match..."
"Boom!!!"
"Boom, boom!!!"
However, before Ming Tianheng could finish, the sound of rumbling thunder came from afar, alarming everyone present.
Huo Yunjiao’s smiling countenance turned dark and ominous. He looked up at the starry night sky, where dark clouds were approaching.
For such a clear night, the continuous thunder was odd indeed.
"Offer the incense first."
Huo Yunjiao, holding Qin Ruan’s hand, pressed the nine sticks of incense forcefully into the burner.
"Boom! Boom, boom!!"
The sound of thunder grew closer.
Qin Ruan’s hand, holding the nine sticks of incense, trembled, sensing an imminent danger.
The hand that Huo Yunjiao was holding also instinctively tightened, and she opened her mouth but did not know what to say.
Seizing the moment, Huo Yunjiao had already placed his nine sticks of incense into the burner and, during Qin Ruan’s moment of hesitation, wrapped his hands around hers, guiding the incense into the burner.
"Boom, boom!!!"
Before the incense could be placed into the burner, the thunder grew closer, until it seemed right beside them—it had arrived.
"Set up the formation!"
Chu Zifeng shouted loudly, springing into action and rushing in front of the table.
The Five Ghost Emperors and the Ten Kings Yama, along with the twenty-five Netherworld deities and other gods both large and small from the Netherworld, took their positions to release their Nether Power, confronting the heavens.
The black mist emanating from them quickly extended into the void. With the next thunderclap, a thunderbolt as thick as a wrist struck against the edge of the barrier, now shrouded in black fog.
The shrill, piercing sound of the barrier colliding with the thunderbolt caused Qin Ruan’s body to tremble involuntarily.
