Chapter 1097: Chapter 1097: Meeting Song Qing Again, She is the Biggest Variable in Qin Ruan’s Peaceful Life
Li Zilan had indeed drunk too much, her words were disjointed and nonsensical.
Later, she lay sprawled across the table, muttering Xiaowu in a dazed whisper.
Sensing her concern, Qin Ruan rose and walked over to her.
She touched Li Zilan’s dirty braids and explained in a low voice to Su Wang and Shen Ran sitting nearby, "I’m fine, you don’t need to worry."
A smile appeared on the handsome face of Shen Ran, "As long as you’re alright, that’s what matters. If anything does happen, we’re here for you. Just like before, life goes on; there’s nothing we can’t get through."
Su Wang nodded in agreement, "Exactly!"
Qin Ruan walked over to them and clapped them on the shoulders with force, "We’re brothers who’ve been through life and death together. You should know me by now; if I was really treated unfairly, I wouldn’t just take it!"
Shen Ran looked at Qin Ruan’s hand on his shoulder, those hands once full of scars were now fair and unblemished.
He believed that Qin Ruan’s current life was truly good, and he nodded, "Having heard you say that, I’m relieved."
Qin Ruan waved at Huo Zhi not far off and said to Su Wang and Shen Ran, "Zilan has had too much to drink; you guys take her back. I should be leaving too."
The two men didn’t try to detain her, watching as Huo Zhi helped Qin Ruan into her coat and they left the barbecue shop in succession.
Su Wang pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, put it to his lips, and nudged Shen Ran with his shoulder, mumbling ambiguously, "Xiaowu has changed."
Shen Ran looked back at him and chuckled lightly, "We’ve changed too, people have to grow."
Su Wang raised his eyebrows and then joined in the laughter.
Yes, they had all changed.
They had become more mature and their paths forward were clearer.
...
Qin Ruan walked slowly through West City where the setting sun couldn’t reach, arriving at the entrance of the alley where the Huo Family cars were parked.
Abruptly, she halted her steps.
Qin Ruan turned back to look at the filthy, foul-smelling alley behind her, her gaze deep and tinged with a cold, sharp light.
"Madam?"
Huo Zhi, who was following close by, voiced his confusion.
Qin Ruan narrowed her eyes, shook her head at him, and gestured toward the parking spot, signaling him to go ahead.
Huo Zhi glanced back at the dismal alley, a dangerous glint in his eyes, but ultimately he obeyed the command and quickly left.
After he had gone, Qin Ruan adjusted her coat and uttered in a cool tone, "Come out."
The empty alley remained silent without a stir.
Qin Ruan waited a few seconds and spoke again, "I’ll give you one more chance, come out! Don’t make me personally drag you out!"
As her words ended, a figure darted out from a junction.
Upon seeing who it was, Qin Ruan’s gaze shifted slightly, her expression somewhat surprised, "Song Qing?"
The once neatly cropped hair had grown long and was now tied up in a high ponytail, her figure accentuated by the tight black outfit, revealing her graceful curves.
What made Qin Ruan uncertain was the change in Song Qing’s demeanor; the repressed air that once marked her was replaced by a restrained dominance, exuding efficiency, making her look rather dashing.
If it weren’t for the demonic energy that pervaded her, Qin Ruan might indeed have had difficulty recognizing her.
After appearing, Song Qing disregarded the disarray and unevenness of the alley and knelt on one knee, "Madam."
Her manners were exact and precise, a departure from the buoyant and outgoing demeanor she had shown during their last meeting in South Ocean.
Qin Ruan didn’t shy away from her genuflection but merely frowned slightly, questioning, "Didn’t you return to the Song Family? You’re not one of the Huo Family’s Hidden Guards; there’s no need to salute me."
Song Qing looked up, humbly, her eyes filled with reverence for Qin Ruan, "Madam, I wish to follow by your side."
Qin Ruan’s voice was cold, "I have enough people with me; I don’t need you."
Her lowered eyes discreetly scrutinized Song Qing, noting that while her demeanor had altered, the melancholic expression in her eyes still lingered.
Song Qing bowed her head and continued to plead, "Please Madam, take me in."
There was a persistent air to her attitude, tinged with an aura of desperate clinging.
Qin Ruan spoke up, "Are you not well-treated at the Song Family?"
Song Qing pursed her lips and said in a low voice, "They want me to marry."
Hearing her talk of marriage, Qin Ruan suddenly remembered the sight of Song Qing when they first met; her marital fate was already destined.
Her fingers dangling by her side idly massaged as she asked indifferently, "You don’t want to marry?"
"I don’t!"
Song Qing answered without hesitation.
Qin Ruan’s eyebrows lifted slightly as she clarified, "But you are a demon, and I keep no one with potential dangers near me."
Over this period, Song Qing had also come to understand the strangeness of her body.
The her during the day and the her during the night were occupied by different personalities.
Even though they were the same person, their temperaments differed, yet recently, she had an inkling that both were beginning to merge.
Hearing Qin Ruan’s concern, Song Qing assured in a grave tone, "I swear by my soul to you, I will never harm you, nor will I ever betray you in this lifetime. Should I break this oath, let me suffer a fate worse than death! May I never find salvation for all eternity!"
Qin Ruan shook her head at her, "It was I who sent you away in the first place, and now I won’t let you come back to me. I believe in your abilities, as long as you’re unwilling, the Song Family won’t force you into anything you don’t want to do."
Song Qing said urgently, "Madam, I wish to follow you and only stay by your side."
Qin Ruan still shook her head calmly, "But I do not wish to keep you. Do you understand? You are an unpredictability to me, and I have a premonition that keeping you by my side will invite great trouble."
Initially, part of the reason Qin Ruan had made Song Qing leave the Huo Family was a subconscious premonition of danger.
She did not want anyone to disrupt her current tranquil life—not anyone.
Song Qing would be the biggest variable in her life.
To leave no hope for the other party, Qin Ruan steeled her heart and turned to leave.
Song Qing, still kneeling behind, kept her gaze fixed on Qin Ruan.
Even as Qin Ruan got into the carriage and the Huo Family’s procession slowly departed, Song Qing remained kneeling on the ground, not rising.
A few thugs approached from behind, smirking as they came up to Song Qing.
"Hey! Where did this chick come from?"
"Why are you kneeling here? Come to daddy, let me give you some love!"
Their eyes shone with malice, and they even reached out to touch Song Qing’s stunning face.
Just as their hands were about to touch Song Qing, a sudden change occurred.
Song Qing transformed, still retaining her human shape, but her arms morphed into vines and blooming, vivid flowers.
"Ah!!! A demon!!!"
The man closest to Song Qing cried out in shock before turning to flee.
The others shouted and scattered in all directions.
Vines writhing in the air caught the fleeing men and flung them towards the edges covered with sharp, knife-like petals, where the resplendent flowers slowly devoured them.
Heart-wrenching screams had no chance to escape the alley before being swallowed by the flesh-eating blossoms.
Song Qing’s expression was eerily cold and demonic, releasing her formidable malevolent thoughts to their fullest extent.
She shook the trembling vines along with the visibly enlarged flowers from consuming their meal.
Almost in the blink of an eye, they transformed back into slender arms.
