Chapter 1061: Chapter 1061: Master Huo: Ruanruan is So Delicate and Alluring, Her Beauty Distracts Me!
Huo Yunjiao also knew he had been too harsh with her and rubbed Qin Ruan’s hair gently, comforting her, "Trust me, I will never let you struggle again in the future."
Qin Ruan frowned; something about that statement didn’t sit right with her.
She glanced sideways at the man next to her and asked, "What do you mean?"
Huo Yunjiao held her hand, smiling as he said, "You’re going to be quite busy soon."
He reached out and picked up several documents from the bedside table, presenting them to Qin Ruan: "I met with Cai Yongliang this morning. I have taken on the unsolved cases of the Tianxing Team from recent years for you."
"Why would you do this!" Qin Ruan exclaimed anxiously.
She had been incredibly busy lately, swamped with daily tasks, and still had to help the Tianxing Team solve cases. How could she possibly find any time to rest in the coming days?
Huo Yunjiao gently stroked Qin Ruan’s cheek, his voice soft, "Don’t you need Evil Qi? The Tianxing Team deals with evil spirits all year round, it’s the quickest path for you to gather Evil Qi."
Qin Ruan couldn’t argue with that; the Evil Qi she had collected in the past two months was negligible, so using the Tianxing Team to gather it was indeed a good idea.
However, San Ye was too dictatorial and autocratic, which instinctively raised a spirit of rebellion within her.
Seeing her about to say something, Huo Yunjiao gently spoke, "I’ve looked into these few cases; they are all in the Capital City. You won’t have to travel back and forth. If any case becomes too troublesome, I can step in and refuse it on your behalf."
Qin Ruan looked at the familiar documents in front of her and pulled the blanket tighter around her, "I’ll take a look first."
She took the documents and opened them; the first document detailed a homicide.
Huo Yunjiao looked down at Qin Ruan, observing her focused expression with a faint smile playing on his lips.
If Taotie had not appeared in this world, he wouldn’t have thought of a way to keep Qin Ruan in the Capital City.
These few cases from the Tianxing Team would keep her in the Capital City temporarily, giving Ming Tianheng and Chu Zifeng enough time to capture Taotie and deliver him to Xia Yunchen at Qi Mountain.
Unaware of San Ye’s scheming, Qin Ruan’s expression grew increasingly grim as she read through the first file bag’s records.
It detailed supernatural events that had occurred at a tourist spot in the suburbs of the Capital City, claiming the lives of hundreds of people over the years.
The incidents took place at a popular tourist destination, Wenshi Mountain Peak, with the busiest family-run resort called Longjun Villa, also the location with the highest frequency of homicides.
It was situated in the center of Wenshi Mountain Peak, boasting a beautiful environment where one could overlook the entire mountain and lake scenery. Its decor was warm and classically charming.
The Longjun Villa got its name because the owner of the resort had once seen a dragon with his own eyes on Wenshi Mountain Peak.
Because of this gimmick, guests were always flooding into Longjun Villa.
Despite frequent homicides at Wenshi Mountain Peak over the years, young men and women still flocked there to explore.
Most of them headed to Longjun Villa, eager to visit the place where the owner had once seen a dragon.
Interestingly, all who went to Wenshi Mountain Peak—if they were guilty of murder or utterly wicked, regardless of gender—would not survive the night.
Before their deaths, no one knew they were thoroughly wicked, but after extensive investigation by the relevant authorities, it was found that all had more or less been involved in killings.
This was principally why, despite the annual deaths, Wenshi Mountain Peak had still not been closed, drawing large numbers of customers.
The most recent murder occurred a week ago when an escaped criminal was found hanged on an ancient tree in front of Longjun Villa.
A family of three was visiting Wenshi Mountain Peak that night, and just as they drove up to Longjun Villa, they noticed the body hanging from the tree.
At first, from a distance, they couldn’t see clearly. When they parked a few meters from the ancient tree, the swaying body became distinctly visible.
This family was bold; they didn’t call the police immediately but rather took out their phones to record a video and uploaded it to an app, attracting a lot of traffic and attention.
By the time the police arrived, many curious tourists had gathered around Longjun Villa, severely tampering with the crime scene, leaving the police and the Tianxing Team with very little to investigate.
As gruesome as the past deaths had been, this man being hanged from the tree was peculiar too, he had been strangled to death by a tree branch wrapped around his neck.
Yet, that particular branch of the old tree could not possibly bear the weight of an adult.
Tests conducted at the scene showed that the branch couldn’t even hold a ten-kilogram bucket of water, let alone the weight of an adult man.
This was considered a relatively normal method of death compared to others, where victims had all their blood drained, leaving only a husk of skin and skeleton.
Some were flayed, others appeared as if mauled by wild beasts, leaving only mangled bits of flesh, and there were cases where the victim’s flesh vanished into thin air with their internal organs neatly separated but intact, identifiable only through DNA comparison.
Qin Ruan flipped to the back of the file, looking at the series of gory death scene photos, all seemingly impossible for a human to have caused, looking more like a grotesque prank.
She couldn’t understand it; if it were just murder, why make it so elaborate.
Qin Ruan closed the file, tapping it repeatedly with her slender fingertips, a pensive expression crossing her face.
Huo Yunjiao took the file from her hand, knowing which case it was with just one glance, and asked her, "Wenshi Mountain Peak has beautiful scenery, would you like to go see it?"
"Let’s go!"
Qin Ruan also wanted to know what kind of evil spirit was so ’righteous’, killing only the wicked and even regular in its pattern of killing.
Huo Yunjiao, as if certain she would go, showed no surprise on his face, smiling, "I’ll go with you."
As Qin Ruan looked up at him, puzzled, Huo Yunjiao set the files aside and explained, "I’ve already notified them not to hold my birthday celebration this year. Wenshi Mountain Peak’s environment is beautiful, and it’s been a long time since I took you out to relax. Let’s take this opportunity to spend a few days there."
Upon hearing this, Qin Ruan knew immediately that Huo Zhi must have said something to him.
She looked puzzled, "Why cancel it?"
Huo Yunjiao held Qin Ruan’s hand, her tone affectionate and gentle, "Every year it’s just a formality, but this year I want Ruanruan to spend it with me."
Whenever this person spoke softly and tenderly, Qin Ruan found it hard to resist.
But she couldn’t deny that hearing Madam’s words made her heart sweet.
Just as a smile was about to bloom on Qin Ruan’s face, it suddenly stalled. She furrowed her brows and said to the man in front of her, "Eight or nine out of ten times, there are evil spirits roaming Wenshi Mountain Peak. Aren’t you afraid of them? It would be awful if they ruined our mood. Maybe we should choose another place?"
She didn’t want the evil spirits to be near Madam, nor did she want their world together to be disrupted by unexpected accidents.
Huo Yunjiao wrapped his arms around Qin Ruan’s slender waist, lifted her, and sat her on his lap, caressing her delicate waist lovingly.
He leaned close to Qin Ruan’s ear and whispered softly, "Don’t worry, I have Ruanruan to protect me."
His voice was gentle, filled with a thick laugh, and an indescribable trust and coquettishness.
Qin Ruan glanced back at him and snapped, "Let go!"
She was unarmed now, and this embrace was very dangerous.
Huo Yunjiao, however, began to reminisce about the taste he had yet to finish savoring.
As he pinched Qin Ruan’s waist, feeling the smooth skin beneath his palm, he sighed deeply, "Ruanruan is so charming and tempting; it’s a beautiful distraction."
"Don’t make excuses; it’s clearly your hormones acting up!"
Qin Ruan, not minding the lack of a blanket to cover her body, jumped to the ground to save her waist from further suffering and escaped the warm yet dangerous embrace of Madam.
Under the watchful gaze of the man’s dark, obscure eyes, she quickly dashed toward the bathroom.
The bathroom door slammed shut with a bang, and the beautiful view Huo Yunjiao admired disappeared from sight.
His eyes, previously amused, now sparkled with mischief.
A tickle rose in his throat, and Huo Yunjiao hastily covered his mouth, muffling a cough.
"Cough, cough..."
The sound of water was already coming from the bathroom, so his cough did not reach Qin Ruan’s ears.
Huo Yunjiao lowered his hand from his mouth, revealing a pool of fresh red blood on his palm.
The smile vanished from the depths of his eyes, his expression becoming gloomy and frightening.
A faint scent of blood lingered in the room. Huo Yunjiao looked toward the bathroom and clenched his fist tightly.
A wisp of green smoke spread from his clenched palm, and when he opened his hand, the pool of fresh red blood had completely disappeared.
The blood scent spreading inside the room was also swallowed up by the black mist surging around Huo Yunjiao.
When Qin Ruan walked out of the bathroom, the room was left with only the scent of sandalwood mixed with a faint scent of heath.
She wrapped herself in a bath towel, seemingly not noticing the man leaning against the headboard, and walked with calm steps toward the dressing room.
Huo Yunjiao abruptly called out to her, "Ruanruan—"
"What is it?"
Qin Ruan turned her head back and looked at him, her fox-like eyes flashing fiercely.
When she saw the messy marks on her body while showering, the anger she had suppressed surged up again.
Does this man even know what restraint means!
Huo Yunjiao, bearing Qin Ruan’s inexplicable wrath, pointed to the mobile phone by the bed and said with an innocent tone, "Your phone rang."
"Got it."
With that, Qin Ruan quickly walked into the dressing room.
By the time she came out fully dressed, Huo Yunjiao was no longer in the room.
Qin Ruan picked up the mobile phone from the bedside, seeing a missed call from Cai Yongliang on the screen.
Her fingers slid across the screen to call back, and the call was quickly answered on the other side.
Qin Ruan opened her mouth and said, "This is Qin Ruan."
Hearing her voice, Cai Yongliang went straight to the point, "Madam Huo, all the girls who have been sacrificed at Peach Blossom Town in recent years have been found!"
Hearing his excited tone, Qin Ruan asked expressionlessly, "Are they all alive?"
Cai Yongliang spoke with great sorrow, "One is gone; she died from a hemorrhage during a difficult childbirth."
Qin Ruan’s eyebrows furrowed tightly, "What happened?"
Cai Yongliang took a deep breath, his tone suppressed with anger, "Every year’s sacrifices at Peach Blossom Town, including poultry and fish, were all taken away by the qi lin, but not a single girl was touched.
After each sacrifice, the son of village leader Zhao would lock those girls in a cave on the mountain. He and a few villagers from the same village would abuse those girls year-round.
Without any contraceptives, these girls have given birth to three boys and two girls over the years. One of the girls bled heavily during childbirth and died along with her baby because she wasn’t sent to the hospital in time."
