Chapter 1049: You are my Madam, it’s my duty to care for you
Chapter 1049: Chapter 1049: You are my Madam, it’s my duty to care for you
"Father—"
A faint call echoed from behind Huo Yunjiao.
Huo Yao stood at the bathroom door, looking up at the tall man by the sink with eyes full of admiration.
Huo Yunjiao wiped his hands, turned around calmly, and looked intently at Huo Yao’s anxious little face.
His voice was low and stern, "Call me father."
If Qin Ruan were to hear Huo Yao call him father-in-law, who knows what she’d start to imagine.
Huo Yao pursed his lips and nodded uneasily. "Father, is mother all right?"
Huo Yunjiao threw the used paper towel into a nearby trash can and walked toward Huo Yao.
He spoke with certainty, "Mother is fine."
Huo Yao looked up into his grandfather’s serene face and quietly asked, "Will my brother and I ever go back to the Purgatory Blood Pool again?"
Huo Yunjiao’s beautifully thin lips curved into a faint smile as he bent down and ruffled his son’s hair with a gentle tone, "I will not allow such a thing to happen again."
Years ago, a young Huo Yao, crying out for his mother in his mind, had struggled to survive in pain within the Purgatory Blood Pool, his cries heartbreakingly painful.
As a father, how could he not feel heartache?
Such pain, he would never let his children endure again.
"Hmm!"
After hearing this, Huo Yao’s tense little face relaxed, and he nodded firmly.
He’d had enough of the experiences in the Purgatory Blood Pool, which were even more painful than soul stripping.
Huo Yunjiao softly asked, "What about Anqi?"
Huo Yao responded, "He’s playing with my second uncle downstairs."
Huo Yunjiao took his little hand, "Go find your brother, don’t let him realize anything is amiss."
Huo Yao clenched his little fist, "I know!"
Seeing his adorably solemn little face, Huo Yunjiao chuckled softly.
He walked Huo Yao to the stairway and watched him go downstairs before turning toward Qin Ruan’s bedroom.
There was another person in the room; Huo Zhi was bandaging Qin Ruan’s arm.
Early in the morning, Huo Yunjiao had seen the bandages wrapped around Qin Ruan’s arm, already stained with blood from the wound.
But at that time his emotions were unstable, and he hadn’t paid much attention.
Now, seeing Huo Zhi unwrapping the bandages to reveal the swollen wound sliced by a Wind Blade, Huo Yunjiao furrowed his brows tightly.
He stepped into the room, approached Qin Ruan, and asked with concern, "Does the wound hurt?"
Qin Ruan, without looking up, replied, "It doesn’t hurt."
Huo Yunjiao sat down beside her, took the medicine and bandage from Huo Zhi’s hands, and began dressing the wound himself.
He spoke with sympathy, "With such a wound, how could it not hurt?"
Huo Zhi, very observant, stood up quietly and tiptoed out of the room.
Qin Ruan looked up at the man beside her, saw his pained expression, and the tightly furrowed brows, and spoke indifferently, "This pain is within my tolerance."
Huo Yunjiao’s deep eyes fixed on her, "Ruanruan, are you trying to tug at my heartstrings, to make me feel pity for you?"
Qin Ruan chuckled, "I am merely stating the fact."
Huo Yunjiao wrapped the bandage around her fair arm, his thin lips slowly parting, "You are aiming straight for my heart."
Qin Ruan handed a bandage she picked up to him and chuckled, "In the past eighteen years in West City, I’ve had worse wounds than this, and back then, no one felt sorry for me, nor did anyone accuse me of tugging at their heartstrings because of my high pain tolerance."
Huo Yunjiao accepted the bandage from her hand, completing the final step of the bandaging.
He stared at the bandage around Qin Ruan’s pale arm, which looked increasingly glaring to him.
He pulled the sleeve down over Qin Ruan’s upper arm, looked up into her cold, seemingly expressionless face, and chuckled lightly, "That was before, now that you are my wife, it is my duty to care for you."
Qin Ruan raised an eyebrow, "How credible is that statement, Third Master?"
Huo Yunjiao raised his hand, gently caressed her delicate face, and earnestly promised in a tender voice, "As long as I am alive, I will care for you, love you, and protect you."
He knew he had bullied her harshly this morning, raising doubts in Qin Ruan’s mind.
With only two years left, he would devote all his tenderness to cherish her in the remaining time.
Qin Ruan’s expression was blank, her eyes downcast, not knowing what to think.
Suddenly, she looked up at Huo Yunjiao beside her, her clear eyes flashing with a pale golden light.
Qin Ruan saw that the Purple Energy and Black Evil Energy around Third Master were still tightly intertwined, unchanged compared to before.
Thinking about what Yirong had told her about his assassination attempt in Fuluo Country, she spoke out, "Why did you push me to become the head of HEA Group?"
Huo Yunjiao replied at an unhurried pace, "I want to rest for two years."
Qin Ruan looked at his calm and composed attitude, and frowned, "There’s no need to push me into the Cabinet, what does that make me? It’s full of old foxes, each with countless schemes; I really don’t want to deal with them."
Huo Yunjiao chuckled softly, "I have also been somewhat powerless these two years, Ruanruan, how about pitying me for that?"
His laughter was low and pleasant, and because he was so close, it made Qin Ruan’s heart flutter.
What she couldn’t stand the most was when he spoke to her with that deliberately lowered, seductive voice.
No, that’s not right!
Images of shame flooded Qin Ruan’s mind.
Her lips twitched slightly as she recalled being overpowered early this morning, without even the strength to raise her hand, and the culprit was none other than the man before her.
Telling her now that he was powerless was clearly making something out of nothing, turning right into wrong.
Just then, the ringtone for a message received on a mobile phone sounded; it was Qin Ruan’s phone.
Huo Yunjiao picked up the phone and handed it to Qin Ruan.
[The Spring Festival is about to end, and Shengshi Academy will begin their back-to-school schedule. Wishing all students a bright future and hopeful prospects.]
Added was the return school schedule and precautions.
Qin Ruan looked down at the phone screen, gently furrowing her brow at the message sent by Shengshi Academy.
Time flew by. School was about to start.
Huo Yunjiao sat beside her, looking at the message on the phone: "Ayao and Anqi’s registration is completed. Should I have them go to school with you?"
Qin Ruan dimmed her phone screen and threw it onto the bed carelessly, "I hope they can adapt."
Huo Yunjiao rubbed her head and smiled, "They will, they’re good kids."
Qin Ruan dodged his touch, stood up, and headed for the door, "I’m a bit hungry, I’ll go downstairs for some food."
Huo Yunjiao looked at his empty hand, his smile fading, and chuckled bitterly to himself.
He had really pushed her too far, she wouldn’t let him close for the next few days.
He didn’t know how long it would take to make her feel better.
Downstairs.
Qin Mei was complaining vehemently about Xueqiu while accompanying Huo Yao and Huo Anqi: "You guys don’t know how arrogant Xueqiu can be. Once outside, I encountered a Li Hua cat. That little thing was hugging its owner’s neck, constantly rubbing against the owner’s neck and cheeks.
Oh! Such a flirtatious little posture, those charming little eyes, looking both cute and captivating. Then look at Xueqiu, it claws me at the slightest thing. The difference is too big.
Sometimes I think, what I have here isn’t a pet, it’s like I’m hosting an ancestor, the kind that demands offerings. I would also like a gentle and flirty cat, but alas, Xueqiu just doesn’t make the grade!"
Qin Mei sprawled on the sofa, his injured leg resting on the mahogany table in front of him, he heartily clutched at his chest.
He didn’t notice Xueqiu, who was crouched at the edge of the sofa, slowly standing up.
"Meow—"
It protested to its owner with a meow that was both disdainful and dissatisfied.
Xueqiu: Brat! That’s clearly the green-tea-baiting cat!
Qin Mei turned around, gave it a look, and scoffed, "Even if that’s a trashy cat, it’s still gentler than your pretentious self. Their meows are so coy, they make one feel all comfy, unlike you, going berserk at the slightest displeasure."
"Meow, meow!"
Xueqiu bristled all over and hissed fiercely at Qin Mei.
Huo Yao and Huo Anqi watched the scene and quietly began to comment.
Brother: "I think Xueqiu is quite gentle. It’s pretty impressive really."
Brother: "Yeah, and actually, Xueqiu is also quite pretty."
Qin Mei, listening to the two little ones praise Xueqiu, had a broad smile spread over his handsome and stern face, as if they were complimenting him and not Xueqiu.
He grinned and said, "Of course, Xueqiu is a Cat Demon after all. But this guy is indeed too arrogant, depriving me of the joys other pet owners have. I too would like a cat that can flirt and meow gently."
"Meow, meow, meow!"
Xueqiu, standing behind Qin Mei, grimaced at him, its little temper flaring fiercely.
Qin Mei, as if he hadn’t heard it, ignored its noises and said to Huo Yao and Huo Anqi, "Look at this cat. Just to cover its month’s board and the occasional outing, it costs me millions. All my pocket money goes to it, and it still throws tantrums at me. Only I can put up with its moods; anyone else would have kicked it out of the house by now."
Huo Yao tilted his head innocently, "Second uncle, If you don’t really like Xueqiu, why don’t you give it to me to look after?"
Huo Anqi nodded in agreement, adding, "We don’t mind the expense."
Qin Mei’s expression changed, had he vented too much so that his nephews wanted to rob him of his cat?
If it had been during the time when he had just gotten Xueqiu, he would definitely have been eager to send it away.
But now, feelings had developed.
Giving his cat away? That was impossible!
Seeing that the words came from his dear nephews, Qin Mei felt rather distressed and wondered what to do.
Not to mention his internal struggle, the originally bristled Xueqiu, upon hearing it might live with Huo Yao and Huo Anqi, two little demons, instantly smoothened its fur.
Its fluffy tail swayed and reached up to tickle Qin Mei’s neck.
"Meow~ Meow~~ Meow~~~"
Xueqiu’s suddenly affectionate voice rang out in the empty hall.
"Damn!"
Qin Mei jerked up, cursing out loud.
He shivered uncomfortably, feeling uneasy all over, like there were creepy crawlies all over him. It was unbearably uncomfortable.
Xueqiu, oblivious to Qin Mei’s distress, lightly jumped down and walked towards him with graceful, seductive steps, occasionally letting out soft, teasing meows.
"Meow~ Meow~~ Meow~~~"
Qin Mei’s face turned green, looking almost tearful.
His injured leg sluggishly retreated as he pleaded, "Little ancestor, could we not meow like that?"
It was simply life-threatening!
It’s not that Xueqiu’s meows sounded bad, but this sudden change gave Qin Mei a chilling feeling.
Xueqiu’s emerald eyes narrowed slightly, a cold murderous glare flashing through its vertical pupils.
It looked up, its eyes coldly fixed on the disdain on Qin Mei’s face.
The desire to slash its owner was unmistakable in its eyes, and it was barely restraining itself from acting.
