Chapter 1020: Chapter 1020: The Barrier between the Netherworld and the Mortal World Weakens, Evil Spirits Lurk
The red-haired man whose collar Qin Ruan was clutching shivered as he apologized, "I, I was wrong."
If he didn’t acknowledge his mistake now, he feared for his life.
Qin Ruan looked down at the clothes on his body, all from world-famous brands that ordinary people simply couldn’t afford. It seemed this kid must come from a wealthy family.
Her red lips curled into a cold smile as she patted the red-haired man’s cheek, her chilly voice carrying a warning, "When you’re out having fun, watch what you say and where you look. Your vain attempts at showing off can get the people around you beaten up.
And cut down on the unsporting surprise attacks, after all, if you get killed, you won’t even have a place to cry. You have already seriously endangered my personal safety. If we take defensive actions and the aggressor gets injured or dies as a result, it’s considered self-defense, and there’s no need to bear any criminal responsibility."
The red-haired man, who had just been schooled in a vivid lesson on legal education, started crying.
He was terrified by the murderous aura in Qin Ruan’s eyes. This woman’s gaze was so fierce!
For some reason, he felt that Qin Ruan might actually kill him.
The red-haired man cried with snot and tears, his face a mess as he begged for mercy, "I failed to recognize Mount Tai and its greatness. Please show me your generosity and spare me. I was wrong, I really was. I’ll certainly keep the lesson in mind and never dare to do it again!"
Qin Ruan’s hand, which had been patting the red-haired man’s cheek, wiped itself on a clean spot of his clothes.
Her slightly furrowed brows clearly showed her disgust.
Qin Ruan stood up straight, looking down at him from a superior position, and spoke in a measured tone, "I’m letting you off this time, but if you continue to act so arrogantly with anyone, I guarantee that day will be your unlucky day."
The red-haired man nodded his head frantically, "I know, I know!"
Qin Ruan’s sharp gaze focused on him, scrutinizing him with a very critical eye, "Looking at your face, I see darkness between your brows and a lack of spirit in your eyes. A major disaster is coming for you, and it doesn’t seem like you’ll learn your lesson."
The red-haired man thought she was mocking him, and his gaze flickered.
Suppressing the various dark thoughts in his heart, he maintained a pitiful expression and cried out, "I really remember, I’ll never run my mouth off again, nor dare to bully anyone, or do sneaky attacks again."
Though his words seemed sincere, his sullen eyes revealed his inner reluctance.
Communicating with such a person was like casting pearls before swine.
Qin Ruan’s expression was indifferent, her red lips curling into a smirk as she turned and walked towards Lu Yichen, Josh, and the others.
Under their watchful eyes, she smiled faintly, "Thanks just now."
Lu Yichen, with a warm and gentle temperament, smiled lightly, "Junior sister, you’re being too polite."
Josh made a funny face, grinning, "Little cousin-in-law, come on, we’re all family here."
Rong Jing spoke calmly, "We’re also old acquaintances, saying thanks makes it seem as if we’re strangers."
Only Fu Ziqiu and Yin Tianlin felt somewhat awkward.
Yin Tianlin fidgeted with his fingertips, meeting Qin Ruan’s scrutinizing gaze, his voice tight, "I, I just couldn’t stand them."
After all, Qin Ruan was a woman he had felt affection for, and she was the wife of his idol. Seeing her harassed made him very angry.
Fu Ziqiu quickly made his stance clear, "I didn’t do anything, but I also couldn’t stand their arrogance, they’re all just a bunch of nobodies!"
At this moment, he had forgotten how, back in Sea City, he had been even more arrogant than the red-haired man.
Qin Ruan nodded slightly to the two, her voice distant and polite, "I apologize for the trouble my second brother caused you today. He injured his leg, so I need to take him to the hospital now. I’ll treat you guys another day."
"Sure!"
Yin Tianlin stood opposite her, exuding a cool and stern aura, and agreed without hesitation.
Fu Ziqiu waved his hand, "Madam Huo, you’re too polite, I didn’t do anything!"
He dared not provoke Qin Ruan any further, avoiding her when possible, as not doing so might invite trouble.
Qin Ruan did not accept Fu Ziqiu’s refusal, nodded to the two again, and walked towards Qin Mei, who leaned on the sofa with an unhappy expression.
The young master was very displeased, having come here to make a scene today, yet somehow ended up compensating with a meal for his sister.
The more he thought about it, the more suffocated he felt. Qin Mei stood up on his injured leg, pointed at Fu Ziqiu’s nose, and said very impolitely, "Our previous matters aren’t settled. I’m very clear about the things you did in Sea City. Once my leg’s healed, I will definitely have a round with you."
Upon hearing this, Fu Ziqiu’s face turned green, "Second Young Master Qin, please spare me, my leg won’t heal for three or four months."
Being the younger brother of Madam Huo, if they really fought and Second Young Master Qin lost even a hair, he was not going to have a good outcome.
Qin Mei sneered with mischief, unkindly smiling, "Well, we can have a fair fight after you’re healed. It’ll be a good chance for you to experience the pain of breaking a bone for the second time."
Even though he hadn’t experienced it yet, Fu Ziqiu’s leg had already started to hurt.
Qin Ruan walked over to Qin Mei’s side, supporting his arm.
"Big brother, cool it, your leg is bleeding again!" she said.
Looking down, sure enough, there was a new wet patch of blood soaking through the fabric of his pants.
Josh walked over with an unsympathetic gait, schadenfreude evident in his voice, "Amei, you said you came here to make a scene, but look how wretchedly you’ve ended up."
The name ’Amei’ alone caused Second Young Master Qin to blow his fuse instantly.
"Get lost! Call me that again and I’ll turn my back on you!" he threatened.
Josh moved to help him up, disdain in his voice, "It’s not like we’ve ever gotten along, flip it however you want. I wouldn’t mind even if you tore off your face!"
His words might have been disdainful, but the way he assisted was considerate despite its rough exterior, "Don’t lean on your little sister-in-law too much. How can she bear your weight, being a woman and all?"
"Mind your own business!" retorted Qin Mei stubbornly.
Yet his body was honest, shifting his weight onto Josh.
Josh was used to Qin Mei’s contradictory behavior. His nose twitched slightly, and a look of irritation appeared on his delicately handsome face, "Stop dawdling and let’s get out of here. The stink of cheap booze is all over, giving me a headache."
As the heir to the Doyle Family, Josh had been raised in luxury, with the best of everything his entire life.
Most patrons on the first floor were the middle class, and the alcohol, while not bad, couldn’t compare to what was served in the club upstairs.
With just a sniff, Josh’s sensitive nose could judge the quality of the drink.
Being surrounded by what he considered the stench of cheap alcohol for too long was like being forcibly fed it through the nose.
Qin Mei snorted, turning to Qin Ruan who was helping him, "Little sister, can you carry Xueqiu for me? The floor is covered in alcohol, I don’t want its fur to get dirty and then have to bathe it again when I get home."
He was an injured man now, and he feared he wouldn’t be able to bath Xueqiu for the next few days.
"Alright, I’ll carry it. You go on out first," Qin Ruan agreed.
Just as she stepped forward to pick up the cat, Lu Yichen approached, joining Josh in assisting Qin Mei towards the exit of the bar.
Qin Ruan, holding the cat, quickly followed, while Fu Ziqiu exchanged a glance with Yin Tianlin, and they too followed suit.
People around them instinctively stepped aside, allowing the group to leave amid the attention of onlookers.
The redhead’s complexion turned pale, his eyes fixated on their retreating figures, a vicious glint flashing in their depths.
Their fallen comrades swiftly climbed up from the ground and helped the redhead up after Qin Ruan and the others had left.
There were many onlookers, and several people left the bar dejectedly.
Standing outside, the redhead took in the fresh air, his expression sullen and extreme.
His dark eyes fixed on Qin Ruan and her companions as they got into their cars, each vehicle a top-of-the-line luxury car with no price tag.
A young man supporting the redhead showed a look of fear and relief, "Thank goodness we didn’t make a bigger scene; otherwise, we’d be in big trouble."
In Capital City, aristocratic families and the powerful were everywhere, and there was no counting the number of rich merchants and magnates.
The aura exuding from the bones of Qin Ruan and her group was not that of ordinary rich heirs and heiresses.
The moment he heard this, the redhead backhanded the speaker across the face, unable to contain his rage, "If you can’t speak, then shut the hell up, nobody thinks you’re a mute!"
The young man’s eyes widened, his hand covering his face in disbelief.
The others around were used to this behavior, though their eyes held a hint of disdain as they looked at the redhead.
The redhead didn’t think he had done anything wrong, his brooding eyes fixated on Qin Ruan and company who had already boarded their vehicles.
His eyes flickered with some thought, and he quickly rushed towards his Mercedes G-Wagon.
Everyone was puzzled by his actions, "What’s he up to now?"
The struck man said irritably, "Who knows what’s gotten into him this time!"
The next moment, they understood what the redhead intended to do.
He drove his Mercedes G-Wagon at breakneck speed towards the Rolls-Royce occupied by Qin Ruan and Qin Mei.
Witnessing such an extreme act, his companions were stunned.
"Damn! Has he lost his mind?!"
"Shit, I’m out of here, I didn’t see anything today!"
"I’m going too, if anything really happens, how am I going to explain this to my family!"
Almost instantly, five or six people scattered in different directions, sprinting away.
The redhead drove the G-Wagon with the pedal to the metal, his eyes bloodshot as he sped towards Qin Ruan’s vehicle.
Just as he was meters away from the Rolls-Royce, thunder came crashing down from the sky.
"Boom!"
A thick arc of lightning struck the redhead’s car.
The powerful instantaneous electromagnetic field induced electrical charges in the ground’s metals, creating an instant high-voltage electric field.
The car itself is a complete metal shell, and being struck by lightning, the redhead inside was at the same potential as the car, thus not shocking him.
However, the car windows were shattered, the crashing sounds filled his ears, and the redhead trembled as if electrified.
This scene caught the attention of Qin Ruan and others inside their car.
Josh gaped at the redhead’s car, "What the hell just happened?"
Qin Ruan glanced sideways and happened to see the redhead clambering out of his car in a sorry state.
He staggered towards a safety zone.
In his path was a Chinese parasol tree, also apparently struck by lightning, tilting slowly as it began to fall.
The location of the Chinese parasol tree coincided with the safety zone the redhead was aiming for.
Seeing this, Josh lowered the car window and yelled, "Get out of the way, danger!"
He was so anxious to save someone that Yi Country’s language slipped out.
The redhead didn’t seem to hear, or perhaps he didn’t understand at all; he kept rushing forward, accelerating his pace.
"Bang!"
The Chinese parasol tree fell on him as expected.
Under the gaze of Qin Ruan and others, the redhead was crushed under the thick tree.
Sitting in the car, Josh leaned on the window, watching the redhead’s unawareness of life and death, and remarked, "I told you it was dangerous, why be so stupid!"
Qin Ruan’s beautiful face revealed mockery, her voice cold, "He wanted to crash into our car, he brought it upon himself."
Josh clicked his tongue, "Oh, then he deserved his fate."
"Meow!" Xueqiu, lying on Qin Mei’s lap, suddenly started meowing at something.
The shrill cry was as if it saw something threatening.
Hearing the familiar meow, Qin Mei began to get a headache, "Here we go again, can’t you stay quiet for once, ancestor?"
He held the window-climbing Xueqiu in his arms, preventing it from looking outside anymore.
Qin Ruan followed Xueqiu’s previous gaze, her delicate brows furrowing.
Several shadowy figures hovered there, faint black evil qi circling around the sinister spirits making it hard to see their true faces.
"Meow meow meow!!!"
Xueqiu, held in Qin Mei’s arms, kept calling out.
Qin Ruan’s brow furrowed slightly, instructing Huo Zhi at the driver’s seat, "Drive, to the hospital."
With sinister spirits all around, it was more important to get her second brother to the hospital first.
Huo Zhi started the car, slowly driving away from this place of trouble.
Behind them, the redhead’s bizarre incident drew a crowd and emergency calls were made.
Qin Ruan looked back at the car behind, a glint of gold flashing in her eyes.
She clearly saw the redhead’s soul leave his body, consumed by the earlier spirits looming with black evil energy.
"Stop the car!" Qin Ruan called out urgently.
Once the car came to a halt, she pushed the door open and strode forward with a gust, heading towards those sinister spirits.
The spirits that had just devoured the redhead’s soul raised their blood-red eyes at her.
Qin Ruan emanated a faint golden light, the holy radiance exuding a dangerous power, prompting the spirits to flee as danger approached.
Qin Ruan’s chilling eyes fixed on their fleeing direction, summoning the Nether Divine Power to form the Golden Whip, marked with the Netherworld’s other shore flowers, materializing in her hand.
