Chapter 936: Chapter 53 The Sisters’ Decision

The worn wooden door of the distant room opened slowly once again, yet only Lina emerged. Pannis lifted his head and almost failed to recognize the girl before him. The priestess had traces of tears on her cheeks, but the melancholy and trouble that often furrowed her brow lately had completely vanished. One could even say the fear and timidity which the girl typically exhibited when not pretending had been largely swept away by her meeting with her sister. From the subtle changes in her demeanor to her movements, Lina became unrecognizable, as if she had been transformed.

Confronted with this relatively unfamiliar Lina, Pannis’ mouth curled up ever so slightly, his eyes twinkling with a hint of amusement as he stared intently at the girl’s face for a long while. Unable to resist, the girl touched her own face and asked in confusion, "What’s wrong? Is there something on my face? That’s strange, there’s nothing."

"It’s nothing, just the traces of tears. You can simply wash your face later," Pannis replied, shifting his gaze without revealing his true feelings, then shrugged and said, "So your secret sisterly meeting has come to an end? Everything went smoothly, I hope?"

"Yes, it’s over, and everything went well," Lina said, her face brimming with an irrepressible smile as she nodded vigorously, "My sister and I have forgiven each other, and we have pledged that from now on, we will love each other as we did when we were children. Oh, Archbishop Grandpa, Aunt Archbishop, why are you here too? Ah, Archbishop Grandpa, you can actually walk out of the house. You didn’t have to dismantle the main door, did you? That would be terrible; we would need to repair the door again, and the church would have to spend more money."

"What are you talking about, child?" Archbishop Cain said in a mix of laughter and tears, "Even if I were much fatter, I wouldn’t be stuck in the doorway. If it really came to that, I probably wouldn’t be able to move at all."

"Yes, he can still get through the door by turning sideways. He can suck in his stomach a bit, so he’ll be able to squeeze out," Archbishop Margaret spoke in her characteristically sharp tongue, immediately causing the old Archbishop’s face to alternate between red and pale, yet she acted as if she had said nothing, asking Lina with a normal expression, "Child, didn’t Betty come out with you?"

"Aunt Archbishop, you don’t need to worry. My sister wanted some time alone, but she will meet with you tonight," Lina said cheerfully, "Although my sister is not willing to give up her ascetic practices, she has promised me that she will temporarily leave the Ascetic Order and return to live outside. This way, you can see her more often, and I will also come back to visit you frequently."

"Wouldn’t you like to come back too?" Cain probed, "If you stayed here as well, I think Betty would be very happy, and of course, we would be even happier."

"Me? I can’t," Lina replied with a smile, shaking her head, "In the outside world, I have my own life, as well as concerns and ties. I cannot abandon my family and friends, just as they would not abandon me. And isn’t this a good thing? Seeing that you, Archbishop Grandpa, haven’t sought a successor for so many years, both my sister and I are very clear about your hopes that we would take up the Archbishop’s Scepter and become the new leaders of our church. So my sister and I have decided that even though she will continue her ascetic practices in behavior, she will stay by your side and continue learning the knowledge she hasn’t yet mastered, until she is mature enough to take your place. As for me, living in the outside world with the identity of a Sage, helping those in need, and spreading The Glory of the Lord all over Yarra, this way, everyone will no longer have any troubles. Whether it’s you, me, or my sister, we can all live according to our hopes."

"Have you already... come to know it all?" Archbishop Cain asked with a nervous expression.

"Know what?" Lina asked, tilting her head in confusion, "Has something happened that I don’t know about?"

"No, no, nothing, nothing to worry about," Cain said, shaking his head, "Did you really sort out all these future matters in such a short time just now?"

"Yes, we will not make the same mistakes we once did," Lina said earnestly, "Looking back, it seems quite ridiculous to have acted out of jealousy. This meeting has allowed us to see clearly into our hearts. The last traces of the demon named jealousy within us have been cleared away. We may still feel jealousy in the future, but it will just be a normal human reaction, not something that will drive us into madness. I used to resent her because she was more likely to succeed you as the Archbishop, grandpa, and she was dissatisfied with me for being more liked and receiving more praise and acknowledgment. Therefore, we were unable to see clearly what choices were most suitable for us, what choices would be good for everyone. But that won’t happen anymore. Without being blinded by jealousy, negotiating these matters has become very simple. We have completely cast aside the things we once envied to the point of madness. It’s both a choice of the best option and a final farewell to our past. Starting today, we’re going to face every day in the future with a brand new mentality."

"That is really... congratulations to you," Pannis said, looking at Lina with a complex expression. The priestess’s expression didn’t seem to have changed or shown anything unusual, yet Pannis felt waves of invisible light emanating from her, piercing so intensely that he almost couldn’t keep his eyes open. He had to tilt his head back to look at the white clouds in the sky and murmur, "I can hardly wait to see what differences there will be in you, reborn anew. Heh, redemption, such an interesting thing."

"Phew, that’s good," the old Archbishop took a deep breath. His heart should have been completely let go, but it was still suspended like a father entangled in his daughter’s affairs, anxiously asking, "You two, you’re really alright now, aren’t you?"

"Don’t worry, Grandpa Archbishop," Lina giggled, stepping forward and supporting the old man on each side with Margaret, "Pannis and I are going to visit a place later, and then we’ll go back to the hotel and call all the big sisters over to stay. You’ll agree to that, right? Hehe, Big Sister will definitely be pleased, it’ll save on hotel expenses, although it’s the Federation paying, but as long as it doesn’t cost money, she’s always happy. In the evening, after we have settled everything, we’ll come to have dinner with you, and Sister will be there too. If you’re still worried by that time, you can see for yourself and know that we’re truly alright."

"You’re going there?" the old Archbishop paused, then nodded thoughtfully, "Alright, that’s good, you go ahead, your Archbishop Aunt and I will wait for you to come back." (To be continued.
