Chapter 915: Chapter 32: Old Marquis

After entering the room, the girls discovered that the house, merely from the outside, appeared quite unremarkable, akin to an extremely ordinary countryside villa. However, with closer observation, it became clear that this house had many unique features.

First and foremost were the materials. The room was wooden which in itself wasn’t strange, but for wooden houses, the insulation of walls and roofs was usually poor, greatly affected by external temperatures. Especially on summer nights like this, especially in a northern area like Neville City, the house would often become stifling. However, although the room was also made of wood, there weren’t the typical phenomena of stuffiness. Instead, it was exceptionally cool and the air was very fresh. Moreover, there were no signs of temperature-control magic fluctuations from Any Arrays. Presumably, the building materials were processed to allow the room to be warm in winter and cool in summer. Moreover, the strict design of windows and doors promoted an exchange of air between the interior and exterior, achieving the effect seen now.

The interior of the room didn’t have any visually luxurious decorations; everything seemed very simple. However, each piece of furniture and every decorative item inside the house was made with meticulous craftsmanship. Even just a foot mat or a chair was positioned ideally for use and produced with the finest craftsmanship, making it more comfortable than other chairs when sat upon.

Walking along, through the open doors of other rooms, it was possible to see either the dining room or the living room, all arranged comfortably without any specific reason. Merely through the arrangement and color coordination of all the items, one could feel their mood becoming calm and pleasant. It had to be admitted, this went beyond the realm of simple house design, approaching a special form of art. Just on this basis alone, it was enough to underscore the difference between the top-tier entertainment venues and those prepared for the upper-middle class, not to mention the many artworks hung on every wall of the house. These artworks were genuine and their type, content, even the colors used in the content, precisely matched the purpose of the room, producing not a trace of discordance. Catherine, with just a sweep of her gaze, could conclude that just these art pieces alone, no, just a few of these pieces, could suffice to purchase the mansion at No. 6 Fox Street.

"Come, sit with grandpa for a while," Marquis Snape, holding Catherine’s hand, led her through several doors to the largest living room. Upon entering, Pannis and the other girls all sighed deeply within their hearts, their faces showing helplessness. Previously, the living room center had a long coffee table with several soft armchairs placed around it and the walls hung with numerous ornaments and paintings, arranged just as elegantly and comfortably. But now, it was entirely chaotic. The Winged People twins and the scorpion-tailed lion Dillie, shrunk to the size of a human, were tumbled together in the center of the living room, with the lion’s mane and the Winged People’s feathers flying all around. The chairs in the room had been knocked over, most of them toppled, and a table was also knocked askew into a corner, its fruits and nuts scattered across the floor. Even a teapot and teacups had been overturned, soaking a large part of the expensive carpet. The butler, who once appeared with the marquis in the villa on Manias Street in the Holy City, along with several well-trained servants, stood in a corner of the living room. None of them showed signs of panic on their faces, seeming accustomed to the spectacle in the living room, and quickly moved other chairs and tables to clear space for the fighting among the two people and one beast. Even the Old Marquis showed not the slightest surprise, completely ignoring the three creatures still engaged in battle, cheerfully pulled Catherine to a recently straightened table in the corner and sat down, while calling to the other girls, "Sit, all of you. You are all dear friends of little Catherine, and for years I’ve wanted to thank you for your care of her. Finally, I’ve the chance now, please don’t be shy with me."

"So this is your property." Recalling the behavior of another butler outside the venue just now, Catherine suddenly realized and turned her head to glare at Pannis and said, "How did you arrange this with Grandpa Snape?"

"I didn’t arrange it, it was just a coincidence," Pannis said, spreading his hands lazily and explaining, "This place belongs to the Marquis. I learned about it over twenty years ago by chance, and I didn’t expect him to be here before I entered the city. However, once we settled down and entered Sleepless City, I sensed the presence of those three unidentified creatures and felt that the direction was likely here. Normally, those three fools wouldn’t come here on their own unless someone familiar invited them. This store is fully funded by the Marquis, so I wondered who might have invited them? I thought it was highly likely the Marquis himself, so I just followed the trail here, thinking it would be a nice surprise for you. Hahaha, no need to thank me, it’s what I should do. Hahaha."

"Hmph, we’ll settle this later," Catherine grumbled like a petulant little girl, grinding her teeth at Pannis before turning to the Marquis, "So, Grandpa, you’re quite familiar with these masters too. Hmm, I should have guessed. You’re familiar with many Demigod masters."

"Yes," Snape said with a joyful smile, winking at Pannis, "I manage more than half of the trade routes through the Winged People Mountain Range, and I even control a third of the trade routes to the Elven Royal Court. So I’m very familiar with these two youngsters, some Elves, and have collaborated countless times. I also just arrived in Neville City today and happened to see them wandering around the streets, so I invited them over. They were bored anyway and agreed without a second thought."

"You just arrived today?" Catherine frowned, surprised, "Are you also here for the meeting?"

"Of course, I’m also a member of the Supreme Council," Marquis Snape said, stroking his white beard, "It’s such an important meeting, of course, I’m qualified to attend. And most crucially, regarding logistics issues, many aspects require the involvement of my business empire. I must attend."

Catherine rolled her eyes, but she didn’t expose the Old Marquis’ pretense. In fact, since getting older, the Old Marquis had been semi-retired, leaving most business matters to his sons and grandsons, seldom involving himself personally. His unusual personal appearance this time was undoubtedly related to her presence. Nevertheless, the Knight girl eventually sighed softly, taking the skinny hand of the old man and said, "Thank you, Grandpa." (To be continued.
