Chapter 565: Chapter 34_1

"I am Pannis." Pannis offered a strange smile: "Greetings, Councilor Cella."

"Mister Pannis?" Cella’s expression changed several times, eventually settling into an equally peculiar smile: "You seem very familiar, Mr. Pannis. Have we met somewhere before?"

"Well, perhaps." Pannis shrugged: "After all, I’ve visited Kulan a few times before and even made acquaintance with an elder from the same family as Councilor Cella. Perhaps we encountered each other from a distance during one of my past visits, who knows."

"Oh? You know someone from our Gold Family, an elder brother? Let me think. The only surviving brother left now is Klarke. Ah, I see." Cella nodded with significance: "You are here in Kulan to see brother Klarke, aren’t you?"

"No, we have other tasks." Pannis shook his head: "We won’t venture to Deep Valley City this time and plan to head directly from Grand Highland City to Felias Mountain. That’s where our mission is."

"Eh?" Cella looked at Pannis curiously: "You’re unaware? Haven’t you received a request?"

"What request?" Pannis asked in surprise: "Whose request? We haven’t received anything."

"Maybe I was mistaken, I thought you were also here because of that matter." Cella said: "My brother should have already arrived in Grand Highland City for that reason. About a month ago, he received a call for help from the Winged People Mountain Range, hoping he could lend them aid as a friend. I thought, given your relationships with those two ladies, the message would have got to you as well. Perhaps you missed it or maybe the two ladies had other ideas."

Pannis furrowed his brows, tapping the short table next to him with some irritation, then after a moment mused: "Do you know what the issue is? With the strength of the Winged People, especially with those two amongst them, they shouldn’t need to ask for outside help. Has trouble come their way?"

"Yes, unprecedented trouble," said Cella in a serious tone: "Reportedly, many of the magical beasts in the Forest of Death have been migrating recently. Frequently, Demigod magical beasts would venture out from the depths of the forest, their direction of attack being the Winged People Mountain Range."

"Doesn’t this kind of incident happen every year?" Pannis questioned: "The Winged People species have four Demigods, including those two. Dealing with this issue should be a breeze, how come they’re asking for help?"

"I’m not sure about the specific circumstances; only my brother is aware of the full extent." Cella said helplessly: "Actually, part of the reason I personally came to negotiate this time is related to this matter. Since the destruction of his axe over a hundred years ago, my brother never thought of remaking it and initially intended to retire from combat. After receiving the pleas from those two ladies, he decided to take up arms once again, but he lacks a suitable material. So, taking advantage of this negotiation, I personally offered to collect some rare ores for him. Some of these rare ores are too hard to distinguish, so I could only feel assured by coming myself. I didn’t expect to stumble into such a situation, I guess I’m unlucky."

"I see..." Pannis rubbed his chin in contemplation: "Do you think the attempted attack on you could have been related to your task of searching for ores? The aim was to prevent Klarke from aiding the Winged People Mountain Range, meaning their ultimate target was the Winged People?"

"Rest assured, that’s impossible." Cella immediately dismissed the idea: "Because all the ores are still here. I had my suspicions and took the liberty to check once again. There is no problem with any of the types of ore."

Cella didn’t need to explain any further, Pannis had already understood. If things were as he suspected, the enemy would not have needed to be so determined to find and kill Cella. In fact, they simply could have stolen the goods from those cases. Having comprehended this, Pannis breathed a sigh of relief and nodded: "Seems like I managed to help at just the right time. If Klarke found out I didn’t save his clan sister, he would definitely berate me should we meet again in the future."

"Hmm?" Cella paused, questioning with curiosity: "Aren’t you planning to help them? Brother Klarke is already on his way."

"Regrettably." Pannis said with a bitter smile: "I should go there from any angle, but unfortunately, I have essential tasks to accomplish here as well, tasks too important to be postponed."

"Is it because of Felryas Mountain?" Cella spoke with a touch of displeasure, "What task is so important that you put the urgent plea from the Winged People aside? There’s nothing at Felryas Mountain, just wasteland and the treacherous Earth’s Scar. You cannot possibly be heading into the Wound of the Earth, can you? Oh dear, that’s absolutely insane."

"The Wound of the Earth?" Catherine looked questioningly at Pannis and Vivian, "Why does that name sound familiar?"

"Remember the Dragonscar in the Shining Forest? That’s the Wound of the Earth," Vivian explained discreetly to Catherine, "When we were at Dragonscar, he briefly mentioned the largest Earth’s Scar in the Yarran World, which is near Felryas Mountain. Before our departure, Pannis and I speculated while studying the Code Disk map, the research center might be buried deep within Earth’s Scar, or at least it’s somehow related. That’s why he keeps mentioning preparations for underground adventures."

"It looks like you haven’t shared everything yet," Cella said, "I advise you to reconsider. That place is geographically complex and persistently dark, often enveloped by Demonized Energy, teeming with magical creatures and beasts. Even the Cavern Dwarves dare not enter there. The danger is one thing, but the most critical point is the depth. People have speculated that the passages and caves inside could span the entirety of Kulan, no, not just Kulan but even parts of the Shining Forest. If you were to lose your way, you might never find the way out."

"I already know about these," Pannis responded with a faint smile, "Yet, there are some things that one has to do, fully aware of the danger."

"What task is it, exactly?" Cella asked, "That makes you neglect even your old friends to venture into the Wound of the Earth."

Pannis responded with a smile but no words, gesturing towards Catherine. Clearing her throat, Catherine began, "Councilor Cella, I am the leader of Nellie’s adventure team and these are my team members. I believe Mr. Bart has already introduced us."

"I’ve heard of you." Cella nodded, "You are a famous adventure team recently, with the highest proportion of Legendary professions among the Gold Rank Adventure Teams. Even non-adventurers admire you. Most importantly, you are amongst the most reputable people in the world of adventurers, almost on par with Nellie and Kyle in their heyday."

"Thank you, they are our role models," Catherine replied politely, "We were commissioned by Master Christo to find a Goblin relic in Felryas Mountain. Of course, this relic is related to the safety of one of our teammates. However, since the task involves Master Christo’s privacy, I won’t go into specifics."

"Oh, now it makes sense," Cella suddenly understood, "You had two friends to help and decided to assist the one who requested first. However, I suggest you meet with the Elder One; he once explored part of the Earth’s Scar and might share some insights."

"I see, we’ll consider that," Catherine gratefully nodded, then asked, "Councilor Cella, what are your plans? We have completed part of the task discussed with Mr. Bart. Would you like to continue with the guarding part or cancel it? If if you decide to cancel it, we should set off now as early arrival would help in completing the task."

"Bart told me about your task." Talking about the task, Cella put on a professional face, "I agree to all the conditions proposed. As for the follow-up task, it should continue. Though I seem normal now, my combat ability is at its lowest, and I don’t stand a chance against those enemies. Your adventure team, however, has enough strength to ward off any attackers."

"Although I would like to continue with the task, providing a more substantial reward, I must clarify that our enemy, the captain of the Shadow Hand named Elegance, has promised to abandon assassination already," Catherine said, "According to the mutual agreement amongst the Adventurer Guild, Mercenary Guild, and the Shadow Hand, any renegades will face severe sanctions, and their guilds will not protect them. Therefore, I don’t believe there is a high possibility they will continue to attack you."

"I’m not worried about Elegance." Cella forced a smile, "I’m concerned about the other captain. Although Elegance has promised to quit, the other one hasn’t. He can come after us anytime."

"That is indeed a problem," Catherine nodded in agreement, "Then we will continue with the task, escorting you to the Grand Highland City. But I still do not understand, if the goal of the enemy isn’t the Winged People, why are they so persistent in chasing you? Oh, I’m sorry, you don’t have to answer if it has to do with Dwarf internal affairs."

"No, you misunderstood. It has nothing to do with our tribe. No one in the tribe intends to assassinate me, at least not while my elder brother is alive," Cella laughed bitterly, "The issue isn’t on our side, it’s with the other party we’re dealing with. The cooperation I’m here to negotiate will significantly benefit the Duke’s territory where others don’t want to see. The most direct way to sabotage the cooperation is to kill me. Now do you understand?"

"Politics..." Catherine shook her head and let out a long sigh. (To be continued. If you like this work, welcome to qidian.com to vote and support. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
