Chapter 496: Chapter 60 Save My Life_1

Everyone could be certain that when the Hundred Layer Box was opened, there was nothing inside, no black objects existed. However, a few seconds later, a black fog mysteriously spewed out of the box, materializing as a fearful entity that only existed in nightmares. The black fog was intangible, and the seawater could not obstruct it for a moment. It quickly spread to half of the cabin, where over a dozen black shadows shivered in the fog, resembling the monstrous cannibals from childhood nightmares.

"Not good, it’s a Mare." Catherine’s face changed, her eyes darting around the cabin and she roared, "We’re about to get surrounded, evacuate immediately!"

Having given her command, Catherine suddenly drew her one-handed sword and swung forcefully at the cabin ceiling. A white, semicircular streak of Aggression burst out, piercing a gaping hole in the ship. Pannis leaped, like a swordfish, into the upper cabin. As soon as he entered, he instigated an Aggression Burst. Swiftly following this action, he pivoted with a circular Aggression circle around him, ensuring that nothing could linger within his range. As soon as he finished releasing his Aggression, three ranged professionals swam up from the broken hole. As soon as Vivian landed, her hands started rapidly flipping, creating various magic seals. With the emergence of the seals, an increasingly thick magical energy began swirling above the broken hole. The turbulent water vibrations from the lower layer indicated a lit crystal bomb. Catherine quickly swam to the second layer along the water current. No sooner had she emerged from the broken hole than Vivian heavily clapped hands with seals, blocking the hole with an energy-formed force field.

"Keep moving, the deck can’t stop them." Catherine shouted before her feet hit the ground: "We can’t fight them here, we must escape out of the ship at minimum. There we can advance or retreat freely and not worry about sinking the ship."

"Take the corridor." Pannis kicked off the half-open cabin door, "This is the half that’s buried into the earth, you can’t get out by tearing a hole straight up."

"Alright, keep up." Instead of swimming, Catherine switched to walking mode. She did a roll on the floor and appeared outside the cabin door, checking left and right to ensure that there was nothing abnormal in the corridor besides the bodies everywhere. She then turned her head and said, "Follow me."

The three girls followed Catherine’s choice, also switching to walking mode, running as fast as they could to chase Catherine. While running, Lina loudly questioned, "Didn’t we say there wouldn’t be any traps? How could something like this appear?"

"That’s a question you should answer." Freya, noticeably burdened by her size, kept kicking away bodies and debris that hadn’t floated away, "Didn’t you purify it? Why is there still Mare?"

"I think that stupid box must have blocked my purification." Lina speculated, "Also, it blocked our detection. I’m afraid when we first entered, the aura of darkness and death we sensed was not from the Holy Image, but emitted from the box. It’s just that the box has such a strong shielding against detection that we couldn’t discover it."

"Could be." Pannis had converted to swimming mode by now, and swam up like a fish, "Hurry, those things can pass through walls. I just saw them crawl out from around the hole we broke."

"What a nightmare." Catherine kicked away an obstructing armor with her bare feet angrily, "We were tricked. That box didn’t need any traps. These Mares were put directly into the box. When the box was opened, they came out. All the traps were ruses, set to lull us into a false sense of security."

"It’s no use figuring it out now." Pannis looked back and said, "They’ve caught up. There are fourteen visible, probably no less than twenty in total."

"You must be joking. Do you expect us to fight against twenty creatures of Legendary Rank, especially these eerie Mares? I don’t think we can win easily." Catherine swung her sword again, destroying the deck above and ascended one level through the hole, "If they can pass through walls, we can’t circle the stairs. They will block us above. Damn it, to think that..."

A strong undertow suddenly stirred inside the corridor on the first floor. Once the water settled, Catherine’s voice could be heard calling from afar, "Hurry up, I’ve temporarily stopped them. Pannis, you break a hole directly to get out, it’s right outside the ship from there."

"You go first." Pannis told the girls. "Go up and help Catherine, I’ll take care of making the hole."

"Great, I’ve been holding back for so long." Freya, as she was pulling out a crystal energy gun almost as thick as a crystal energy cannon, injected her internal magical energy directly into the firearm without loading it with crystal. She was the first to swim up through the broken hole, and without a glance, raised her arms and fired a shot. The pure energy bullet met with little resistance in the water and swiftly flew forward. After passing close by Catherine’s location, it suddenly exploded in the air, spreading into a large net made of energy, wrapping up the four Mares chasing from the corridor like fish in a net.

"In the name of Denia, Divine Spell, Requiem." Lina surreptitiously tugged at Freya’s leg, effortlessly following her as they both wriggled up from the hole. Hovering in the air, she incanted a prayer using the vibration of the water waves: "I hope this chanting takes effect, and what I hope most is that Lord Caleto, seeing that we are here to help, would allow the force of my god to take effect in his territory."

As it turned out, Lina’s worry was somewhat unnecessary. Although this was Caleto’s domain over the sea and the storm, it was not his Divine Kingdom. The divine spells of other deities would be somewhat suppressed in this place, but they were still effective. From another perspective, the seabed was also part of the earth, so earth goddess magic was somewhat weakened in effect, but the degree was not significant. At least this was the case with the Divine Spell Requiem that Lina had cast.

Requiem was one of the blessings Lina had received from Denia after her promotion to Legendary Rank, which was a Divine Spell specifically against the undead. As the name suggests, the effects of the spell are to cause the power of the undead within range to dissipate, putting them directly back into the state of death. Mares, being semi-creatures, are not really undead, but with a dual nature of death and darkness, the Requiem doesn’t quite have an almost instantaneous deadly effect on them as it does on the undead, but it can still purify that part of their undead energy, causing them to become severely weakened. After the Requiem, they went from breaking free from Freya’s energy net in a few seconds to being completely trapped by the energy net, unable to struggle free.

"Element, Ice Barrier." Vivian, thrown up by Pannis, also released her magic while still floating in the water. An illusory array formed beneath the clustered Mares, where cold, ice-attribute energy crystallized into a three-dimensional barrier that began to shrink inwards.

According to Isabel’s previous explanation, energy attacks are strikingly effective against Mares, so the girls unanimously chose pure energy attacks, and indeed achieved a significant effect. The oncoming Mares, hit head-on and equal in power to the Legendary Rank, showed no ability to fight back.

Pannis was the last to emerge from the second layer, coming straight up near the deck and punching into it. The rotten deck couldn’t withstand the force of the punch and was blown open making a big hole. However, their actions on the way had been somewhat excessive, punching through the deck repeatedly, causing frequent vibrations to the sunken ship. The ship, which was just barely maintaining its form, seemed unable to hold up any longer and began to shake uncontrollably.

"Damn it, the ship can’t hold up." Pannis treaded water, half of his body out of the hole, saying to the girls below, "Let’s get out of here first, be careful not to get buried underneath if the ship collapses."

"Don’t worry, the ship can’t possibly collapse." The girls swam out of the hole one after the other, suspended in the sea, and Lina said, "Miranda just told me. She said that every part of the ship’s hull is filled with water, and in this state, the ship can’t possibly collapse. If the force is too great, the most that can happen is disintegration, and then the fragments will float to the surface with the seawater. "

"Well, that’s the power of knowledge." Pannis said, "But now what do we do, do we run away or try to clear them out?"

"What would happen if we ran away?" Catherine asked, "What’s possible?"

"That’s a problem, whether we can get away or not entirely depends on luck, because we don’t know if they’ll keep chasing us, and they seem to move faster in water than we do." Pannis said with a wry smile, "And there’s another problem, we’re near the core area now and there are more and more patrols, we could run into several teams halfway through our escape, and that would be even more exciting."

"I don’t want to leave my life up to luck." Catherine shook her head, "Let’s fight. It’s a little more dangerous, but based on the previous battle, they don’t seem to be very intelligent. We still have a great chance of winning."

"Actually, I had a plan that might trick them and make them leave," Pannis hesitated, "But..."

"Your domain? But isn’t there a secret in there that you don’t want anyone else to see?" Catherine cast a significant glance at Pannis and shook her head, "And who knows what those Mares would do after they leave. We are here to solve problems, not to create them. Prepare for battle. Although we are not good at underwater fighting, if we are all careful, we have a good chance of winning. It’s better to stand on the ocean floor rather than floating in the water."

The girls nodded in agreement. Once Catherine had decided on the course of action, no one would object unless it was absolutely necessary. This was the basis of a normal operating adventure team: each person could hold their own opinion during discussion, but once the team leader made a decision, everyone would do their best to follow it.

"Well, it can’t be helped, then." Pannis didn’t start to prepare, but muttered to himself after a soft sigh. Under the puzzled gaze of the girls, he took a deep breath and yelled, "Help~~~ Murder!!~~~" (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for it on qidian.com.
