Chapter 484: Chapter 49 - 4000 Meters Deep_1
Thousands of kilometers deep under the sea, there was a sudden violent disruption of the water, giving rise to a plethora of white bubbles. A powerful column of air erupted from behind the Crystal Energy gun held by Freya’s hand, cutting a trail in the deep sea that spanned over two meters. Even from the side, the girls could clearly feel the turbulent fluctuations rippling through the water, the invisible waves brushing against them, giving their bodies a tangible understanding of the intensity of the impact. At the muzzle of the Crystal Energy gun, a deep blue stream of light, the size of an arm, roared out - a bullet condensed from pure magical energy that simply ignored water resistance. Almost as soon as it shot out, it reached the face of a deep-sea magical beast.
The speeding magical beast had no time to react before it was confronted with a head-on collision with this light bullet. The streamlined bullet exploded at the point of contact, allowing the violent magical energy contained within to burst out fully. The deep blue bullet was composed entirely of Ice-attribute magical energy; the moment it exploded, an icy breath filled the seabed. Even at a distance of over ten meters, the piercing coldness could be felt through the seawater.
The deep blue energy orb exploded into countless shards of light, and the icy energy engulfed the body of the deep-sea magical beast. The seawater around the beast froze at a pace visible to the naked eye; within seconds, the surrounding seawater formed a giant ice casket nearly ten meters long. Inside the ice casket, the stiffened body of the marine magical beast could still be seen, but it had already lost the ability to move. Encased in the ice casket, it sank to the ocean floor, landing on the seabed.
"I guess I’m faster, aren’t I?" Freya’s lips curved into a small, triumphant smile as she turned to look at Vivian, but discovered that Vivian’s attack had already ended as well.
Vivian’s attack lacked violent vibrations, glaring light bullets, or even significant movement. She merely raised her magic staff and pointed its tip in the direction of the approaching marine magical beast. Without any motion, with just a light poke, and without any unnecessary effects, the deep-sea magical beast’s body stiffened completely and ceased any swimming movements. It continued to move forward a few meters under inertia and then sank to the ocean floor like a stone. As it sank, it could be seen that its body was freezing from the inside out. Blue-white ice crept rapidly over its skin, the area covered by ice gradually expanding, eventually enveloping its entire body, turning it completely blue and white. It was several seconds later when the cold air diffused outward from its body and began to slowly freeze the seawater around it, but only a thin layer was frozen, and it shattered again when it hit the seabed.
"It seems I’ve lost." Freya dumbfoundedly watched the deep-sea magical beast that landed, smiling bitterly: "What a pity."
"It looks like you were faster than Vivian," Catherine asked in confusion, "Why do you say you lost?"
"Although my ice bullet freezes it faster, because it works from the inside out, there is a delay from the time it stiffens to when it dies." Freya shook her head: "But hers is different, she froze the beast’s body directly from the inside, essentially killing it instantaneously. So in actuality, she was faster. But you’re just taking advantage of the fact that the water here provides stronger elemental energy. If we were on land, you might not achieve the same effect."
"Making use of all exploitable conditions, be they natural or man-made." Vivian put her hands on her hips, tilted her head back with a triumphant smile: "This is the way a mage should fight. Haha, you are still far from defeating me, the genius."
"What are you guys playing at?" Unknown to them, Pannis had already snuck behind them and sent out shock waves through the water, asking, "Planning to have fish for dinner?"
"If we want to eat, you will have to learn how to cook underwater," Catherine rolled her eyes as she turned back: "So, did your test yield any results? What about those three Sea Race guys?"
"It turns out that even if they get a kilometer or two away, they won’t give up. I tried to extend the distance to three hundred meters, but they still chased after me, with no indication of turning back. So I suspect, unless we flee from the current range of the Devilish Sea Area, we won’t be able to shake them off." Pannis replied: "But there is some good news. After I shook them off like before, they circled around the original spot for a minute, and surprisingly, instead of returning to our current location, they started patrolling the area directly. This means that on our journey forward, if we encounter enemies we cannot evade, I can use this method to divert them, significantly reducing the likelihood of battle."
"We can consider that." Catherine crawled out from behind a massive coral reef, pulled out the underwater compass to check the direction, and retold the speculation of the few people about the controlled Sea Race members: "What do you think? Is this a possibility?"
"It’s hard to say, we can’t deny that there’s a possibility." Pannis frowned: "But like Lina suspected, even gods might not be capable of such feats, and if it’s man-made, there’s even less reason to let it go. Anyone doing something must have a purpose, but right now we have no idea what the purpose could be. Who would go to such lengths for something so senseless?"
"Forget it, no point guessing." Catherine shook her head: "Everything will be clear once the mystery is unveiled."

It’s challenging to perceive the passage of time in the underwater world. For the five members of the adventurer team, diving under the sea, their lone gauge of time was an underwater timer. While the timer declared three days had passed, the lack of an intuitive sense made it all seem unreal to the five team members. However, the last three days weren’t monotonous as the seabed’s mysteries always intrigued the land-dwellers. During their underwater exploration, they would discover something interesting every now and then.
When the group ascended a slope onto a small undersea hill, they accidentally shone their light downwards and were startled to find that under the sludge and seagrass wasn’t solid ground, but a hill-like pile of white bones. Imagining the size of a beast, whose skeleton could be mistaken for a seabed hill, was mind-boggling. Just its back alone stretched over five hundred meters high, and its length continued for four or five kilometers. The smallest bone was several dozen meters wide, and through its gaps, schools of unidentified small fish swam in and out, already considering it their home.
"Blessings of Denia." Lina whispered in awe, "Is this really some creature? The terrestrial giants would look like mere ants compared to this."
"That’s why I say, the deep sea is the most dreadful place." This was Pannis’s first time seeing such a massive skeletal remains. He crouched down to tap the white bones with a sensation similar to knocking on a stone. "No wonder Caleto gave the Sea Race a natural intimidating power against marine magical beasts. If not for that, these giant beasts, even a single one, could cause massive casualties among the Sea Race."
"You’ve never heard of such a magic beast?" Catherine asked.
"Never even heard of it." Pannis replied, looking down while climbing on the skeleton, noting that a single tooth was larger than their bodies, "Based on its shape, it should be a whale-like magical beast. Sheesh, even the enormous Sea Race like Badiya can’t compare to it."
"You all might want to take a look at this." While everyone was studying the skeleton at their feet, Vivian suddenly spoke up, staring ahead, "Something quite interesting appeared."
"What did you see?" Catherine came over, but without the focus of Hawkeye Spell, she couldn’t see clearly through the seawater ahead. Still, thanks to their high position and lack of obstructions, she could vaguely see something emitting a hazy light hundreds of meters away, similar to the phosphorescent algae they had seen before. Catherine exclaimed excitedly, "Have we finally found more phosphorescent algae?"
"It’s not that simple." Vivian shook her head, "In which part of the Devilish Sea Area are we now?"
"The sea area is about a hundred thousand square kilometers. While it’s not regular, we can estimate our location." Pannis was calculating mentally, "In three days, we are probably approaching the initial range of the Devilish Sea Area, which means we are nearing the Core Area. The increasing frequency of encounters with the Sea Race patrols indicates this."
"If my knowledge is correct, the surface of the sea is covered in dense fog all year round, isn’t it?" Vivian asked, "Unless one flies over from seven or eight thousand meters’ altitude, it’s virtually impossible to traverse the sea."
"That’s common knowledge."
"Catherine answered, "Even for adventurers and mercenaries trying to develop uninhabited islands, they must rely on the Sea Race’s navigation to sail through the navigation hazard zone, and the risk is high."
"I remember Priestess Doris mentioned before that the Devilish Sea Area is far from land, deep in the sea." Vivian continued, "There seems to be no record of adventurers venturing into such deep waters to develop islands."
"Of course not, with current technology, entering such deep seawater is just like committing suicide, even with navigation help from the Sea Race." Catherine frowned, sounding frustrated, "What are you trying to say? Do you expect to find pioneers here?"
"Indeed, there is no record of anyone venturing into such deep seawater." Freya added, "You didn’t spot a pioneer, or their boat, did you?"
"I am not sure if it is a pioneer or not, but I did spot a ship. A huge sunken ship, to be exact," Vivian pointed ahead and continued, "Seeing a ship that shouldn’t be there, especially in a place that can control the Sea Race, close to the Core Area of the Devilish Sea Area, brings up some complex implications."
