Chapter 482: Chapter 47: Patrol Team_1

"Attention, there are three of them grouped up ahead, be careful and hidden." Deep down at the sea bottom, a large piece of rock exposed in the water, the five in the adventure team hid behind the rock, carefully peeping out to observe the trio of the patrolling group.

After separating from Lanna and Badiya, the adventure team had entered the Devilish Sea Area after several hours of underwater trekking. As previously mentioned by Doris, they had encountered controlled sea race multiple times within the devilish sea. However, Doris was clearly mistaken all along. These controlled sea race didn’t act like normal humans, they were evidently more sluggish. Unless they saw the members of the adventure team or heard their voices, even if light was shining on their faces, they wouldn’t offer any aggressive response. If they were behind them, even if one bumped into them, as long as they didn’t notice when they turned their heads to look, they wouldn’t hold any suspicions and would merely continue their previous patrolling in a daze.

"I am afraid they have been controlled for too long, probably the result of the body’s self-protection, consciousness has fallen into closure, they should recover once they leave this sea area." Whispered Catherine, "Shall we try? Knock down these sea race, then transport them out, let’s see if they will recover?"

"The distance is a bit far." Lina shook her head and said, "Although these patrols are not very strong, they are at least Gold Rank. It’s easy to knock them down, but it might not be so easy to control them for hours."

"If they can be knocked unconscious, I can freeze them," Vivian said, "but it’s hard to say whether they can survive after defrosting. They might be directly frozen to death."

"Let’s just give up, it is too likely to endanger their lives." Catherine hesitated for a while, but finally decided to deny the suggestion, "Even though the sea race was quite understanding, they did not raise any demands to ensure the life safety of the controlled ones. But after all, they are innocent people. If possible, we should try not to endanger their lives. Of course, only under the condition that it won’t affect our own safety. If any situation that might threaten our lives arises, we needn’t worry about showing mercy anymore and we should prioritize our own safety."

"I feel relieved to hear that." Freya tore open the waterproof backpack and took out a Crystal Energy Gun nearly a meter long. Her Crystal Energy Gun was very special, and the gun bore is as large as a fist. Occasional secret mana oscillations showed up from the black muzzle. Freya opened the chamber of the Crystal Energy Gun, adjusted it slightly on the array and nodded with satisfaction. She raised it up and took aim for a few times, "Now how do we move? Shall we knock down these patrols?"

"Although we have tested before that they won’t notice the anomaly after waking up from being knocked down, they will send out an alarm when being knocked down. If there are other patrol teams nearby, it may attract more controlled attackers." Pannis said, "So, I suggest that we should try to avoid these patrol teams as much as possible. In the case of last resort, stun them as quickly as possible."

"That requires very accurate judgment of how far away we are from them so that they won’t see us," Catherine said. "But how do these sea races find enemies in the deep sea without any light?"

"I don’t know." Pannis shook his head, "It’s not vision, touch perception, or hearing. Perhaps only after uncovering the final mystery and finding out the cause of their being controlled can we figure it out. However, it is easy to determine their searching distance, these three patrols in front of us are the best props. At present, we are in the periphery and patrols around are sparse. Judging from the change in the water flow, there are no other patrol teams around. We can use them for the experiment. You all hide here and I will lure them over. Remember, I may make multiple attempts, so even if they attack me before I lead them over here, none of you should step forward."

"Alright, you go." Catherine waved her hand, "It’s fine for us to shine a light on you."

"That won’t be a problem." Pannis started moving his body, "I’ll also bring the Tears of Light. I hope they won’t have any special reaction to it."

Just as he finished speaking, Pannis sprang up with his legs and ascended to fifty meters in a blink of an eye with the buoyancy. He was swimming quietly towards the patrol team through the sea from above. The trio of the patrolling team was completely unaware of Pannis who was sneaking up. They kept moving along a set route without any change. The three sea races belonged to different races, one of them had vertical back fins which looked as sharp as blades easily causing damage merely upon touch. The second had a shield-like shell on each arm. The shells were very thick and sparkled with a knife-like cold glow around the edges. It looked like they were two pieces of arms for both offensive and defensive. The last one looked similar to a human with a fist-sized hole in both its chest and abdomen, as if punched by someone. On his back, there was a hump-like tumor with another pitch-black hole. The three sea races walked around the sea bottom expressionlessly, showing no signs of fatigue no matter how long they had been walking.

"Did you notice? These controlled sea races are all using a humanoid form in the sea." Catherine whispered, "It’s a strange phenomenon, considering the normal thinking, they would certainly have more advantages in the ocean form in the deep sea, but they are not using them but are using the most inconvenient land forms discrimination."

"We didn’t ask Priest Doris before if she switched to the human form when she was being controlled," Vivian said, "but generally, it’s unlikely that the sea races would frequently use human forms at the bottom of the sea. This way, we have seen seventeen or eighteen controlled sea races all in human forms. If we explain by using the premise that they just happened to switch to human forms when they were controlled, it obviously doesn’t make sense."

"Yes, indeed." Lina nodded, "As I read in books, even for the Sea Race, it is a huge drain of energy to move around in the deep sea using the land form, no less than it is for us. But seeing them still using this form, could it be that these controlled sea creatures can only use this form? Even if they originally had an ocean form, they have to switch back?"

"It’s indeed possible." Freya pulled out a small, delicate crystal disc from somewhere, which displayed the fluctuations of the nearby water flow through various colors. After watching for a while, Freya lifted her head from the crystal disc and said, "There are no other sea creatures nearby, confirmed. We can attack slower later, no need to knock them down completely in one go, give them a chance to attack. In this way, we can observe whether they will switch back to the ocean form during the fight."

"That’s a good plan," Lina said, "however, the one holding the shell must be defeated first. We must not give him the chance to switch forms. Miranda has informed me, these kinds of ocean-form sea creatures are the most defensive in the deep sea. If it manages to switch forms, we’re going to be in a lot of trouble."

"And the other two?" Catherine asked, "What are their distinctive features?"

"The one with the dorsal fin is a small sea creature, the ocean form is only about three meters, known for its speed. Its ocean form is similar to a snake. During a fight, it will coil up and spin rapidly like a disc. The fastest ones are spinning so fast that you can’t even see them clearly, just like the circular saw that Freya cast earlier." Lina paused for a moment as if she’s listening to someone else’s speech. After a while, she continued, "The other one with several holes in its body is from the Water Gun Clan. Its body is about five meters long. It’s known for its ability to highly compress sea water in the body and eject it from the three launching holes on its back. The attack is very powerful, comparable to a three thousand Tael crystal energy bomb, it can even easily blast rocks."

"Neither of them is easy to deal with." Catherine hesitated, "Both are problematic."

"Yes, the Sea Race is not going to be easy to deal with," said Lina, "Miranda told me, especially the Deep Sea Clan, we must be very careful when dealing with them."

"Let’s target the one from the Water Gun Clan," Catherine chose her target, "With our advanced shields, we should be able to block a few crystal energy bombs."

"Yes, Miranda and I agree with that." Lina nodded, "The other two are either too fast or too tough, both are challenging to deal with. However, I do believe that the possibility of them switching to the ocean form isn’t very high. Let’s see how it goes."

"Pannis has been spotted." Vivian, who had been using the Hawkeye Spell to enhance her vision, suddenly adjusted the crystal energy light behind Catherine and moved the beam toward the target, "See that? He’s circling them from above while closing in."

"Yeah, I see him, but the light is not bright enough," Catherine said, "It’s hard to see clearly."

"I’m sorry, this is the maximum brightness." Freya regretted, "Eighty meters is already the limit."

"That’s OK, I can make do with it," Catherine waved her hand, "Hmm, he’s already in front of the patrol squad, the distance... Hmm, fifty meters. The enemy doesn’t react, seems like fifty meters is out of their radius of detection."

As Catherine had said, Pannis had come above and within fifty meters directly in front of the patrolling squad, yet the squad, which was bathed in the light of Catherine’s beam, seemed oblivious to his presence. Pannis stood in place, waiting quietly. His location was exactly on the patrol squad’s path. The three members of the squad kept their land form and walked slowly along the seafloor, inching closer to the still Pannis meter by meter. (To be continued.
