Chapter 447: Chapter 15 Unexpected Encounter on Deck_1
Jeff’s Flying Boat was sailing smoothly in the sky. A giant sail hung on the mast of the flying boat. The magic-converged air element frolicked behind the sail, transformed into howling gales that stirred the flying boat onward. The exterior of the boat was shrouded in a magical barrier, isolating the environment and preventing the chaotic airflows from affecting the deck.
"The sun is really beautiful." Catherine emerged from the cabin’s staircase. Gazing toward the sky, which was as clear as if it had been rinsed with water, she exclaimed, "No wonder everyone has a dream to fly. It feels so good being in the sky. If I stay up here too long, I might even become addicted."
"I thought you would insist on getting off the boat just now." Pannis followed Catherine, teasing, "Clearly, Snape wanted you to accept this vacation trip, huh."
"You’re joking. How could I ask to get off the boat at this point? That’s too rude," Catherine glared at Pannis, "One can be seen as being self-resilient if she refuses such kindness from Marquis Snape and insists on not getting on the boat from the get-go. But, to insist on getting off the boat now, that’s pretentious and hurtful. I can clearly differentiate between the two. So, let’s enjoy these ten-plus days of rest and have fun."
Now, Catherine was no longer clad in a full suit of armor, but a casual lace long dress. The dress accentuated her tall figure and slender legs. Over the dress, she had a light blue silk vest. Her wheat-colored skin was gleaming healthily.
"Ugh, these rays are piercing." Vivian emerged on deck, her eyes turning red from the dazzling sunlight. Seeing this, Pannis promptly handed her a pair of sunglasses, allowing her to step out of the cabin confidently. Vivian blinked behind her sunglasses, questioning strangely, "You happened to have a pair that fits me? Can’t believe the coincidence."
"Hehe," Pannis grinned but said nothing.
"You’re really dense," Lina pushed up her glasses and walked out ahead of Freya. She was dressed in a somewhat androgynous outfit, a white top hat on her head. Though her cold demeanor and relentless words gave her a strangely charming air. Lina snorted, "He obviously guessed you’d be affected by the sunlight. Since he anticipated this, why didn’t he remind you earlier? Surely he wasn’t waiting to see you make a fool of yourself."
"Is that so, Pannis?" Vivian’s gaze suddenly became dangerous as she challenged Pannis, "Explain yourself."
Laughing awkwardly, Pannis took a few steps back and glared at Lina, "Hey, why are you trying to get me in trouble?"
"Oh?" Lina raised an eyebrow, looking up at the sky like Catherine, "The weather is really nice today."
"You guys need to move. I can’t get out." Frankly speaking, Freya was determined to lose weight, and she was slowly making progress. She no longer had to side-step through doors, a significant improvement, though still not satisfactory. Even though she’d put down all her weapons and equipment, she still wore an oversized adventurer’s leather armor.
"Why don’t you change into casual clothing?" Catherine asked, "We’re on vacation; you should relax a little."
Freya glanced at Catherine before raising her eyes to the sky, where a lost cloud swallow had flown into the deck’s barrier. As Freya gently lifted her hand, the tired swallow landed on it, calmly preening its feathers. She sighed pitifully, "I... I’ve lost weight."
"Huh?" Everyone, even the shy and introverted Maggie, were dumbfounded by Freya’s claim.
"I’ve lost weight. The casual clothes and formal wear I brought no longer fit me. I should have tried them on before leaving," Freya said melancholically, "Every day and night, thinking about Mr. Pannis made me lose weight from suffering. Perhaps this is the price of love. No regrets, though. Love is supposed to be like this, bittersweet, joy with sorrow. If possible..."
Vivian habitually swung her hand around but found her magic staff missing. She squinted her eyes, then suddenly brightened, "Hold me up, Pannis."
"Huh?" Pannis froze for a moment, then bent down to pick up Vivian the same way he would pick up Annie. Vivian estimated the height, nodded in satisfaction, and smacked Freya’s head.
"Ouch." Freya wailed softly as usual, holding her head and retreating to one side, keeping silent in her sulk.
"Quite a lot of people here." Catherine ignored their antics, shielding herself from the sunlight as she looked around the deck. The deck was vast, occupying nearly ten thousand square meters. The most eye-catching spot was the outdoor coffee clearing near the cabin entrance. Each table was guarded by a large umbrella, blocking out the glaring sun. About a dozen mid-aged passengers were lounging in the deck chairs, wearing sunglasses, some reading a book, some engaged in conversation, while others simply lay motionless, catching a nap. The breeze blowing through the windproof barrier was just right, the cool wind brushing the skin, leaving a tingling freshness. Beyond the coffee area was a fenced-in court with metal nets where seven or eight boys were running amok, playing dodgeball. The sound of the ball hitting the metal net accompanied their sweat and laughter, as they spent their boundless energy.
Further away was a viewing platform for tourists. Interested passengers could climb up the high platform to look over the ship’s side, enjoying the scenery that may have been a once in a lifetime experience. However, the observatory was currently deserted, apparently, no one was interested in sunbathing under the scorching morning sun.
"Let’s go grab a drink," suggested Catherine, "We haven’t drunk a drop of water the whole morning; we need a good rest."
The occupancy rate of the open-air café was not high, but the seating positions of the guests were fascinating. Among the dozen or so guests, the vast majority were sitting on the left half. Only one person was sitting alone on the right half. Wearing a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, barefoot with coarse cloth shoes, he was semi-reclining under the shade of the umbrella, smiling amiably at the adventure team that had just come out of the cabin. Yes, this chubby man with vertical hair, always smiling, eyes crinkled into a thin line in a friendly manner, toasted the five of them with his glass filled with ice cubes.
"This person..." Catherine turned to ask, "Maggie, this should be one of your crew, right?"
"Yes, it’s Mr. River." Maggie admired the smiling man and said, "He is the legendary figure I mentioned, always responsible for the safety of the journey."
"Indeed." Catherine nodded thoughtfully and walked towards River, "Since he has already extended an invitation, let’s go over and chat."
"Don’t disturb Mr. River." Maggie whispered, "Mr. River may seem to be sunbathing on the deck every day, but he is actually on alert for the skyboat. He dislikes being interrupted at this time. He will be angry."
"No worries, it will be fine." Pannis reassured her with a smile, "Believe me, he won’t be angry this time."
The five of them slowly approached River, but he seemed to not notice them, still lost in his thoughts. It wasn’t until they were at the table that he smiled, "Feel free to sit anywhere. This leisure trip on the skyboat is like this, without so much etiquette and rules. To completely relax and forget about these things is the best way to enjoy this journey."
"It seems you really enjoy flying around in the sky." Catherine thought about it and decided to partially recline as suggested. She closed her eyes and stayed silent for a few seconds, then smiled, "Indeed, it feels quite different when relaxed."
"Of course, this is the experience I have gathered from escorting more than thirty trips, haha." River patted his belly and laughed, "What would you like to drink? Maggie will order for you. The cost of living, entertainment, and food here are all included in the ticket price. Unless you need special food and supplies, you won’t have to spend a penny."
"Two glasses of iced beer, two glasses of iced sorrel juice, and a glass of water," said Catherine, "Little Maggie, sorry to trouble you."
"Hey, elder sister." Freya lain across two chairs, complaining, "I want sorrel juice too."
"You?" Catherine glanced sideways at Freya and sneered contemptuously, "Starting now, you won’t have any sweet drinks or food until your weight drops below one hundred kilograms. As soon as you meet my requirements, you will be allowed to eat sweets."
"How can you do this?" Freya’s eyes reddened instantly, "Why?"
"It’s the team captain’s decision," Catherine leaned in with an overpowering gaze, looking directly into Freya’s eyes, "You are not allowed to complain."
"Ooooh, you all bully me." Freya looked pitiful as she curled up in the deck chair, presenting a face full of grief. (To be continued.
