Chapter 444: Chapter 12: The Princess Returns to the Team_1
Near the south gate of the Guild area in the City of Knowledge, there is a special area. This area covering about three kilometers, is a flat, open space. The ground is carefully paved with white marble. Although you can see the cracks between the stones with your naked eye, you absolutely can’t feel any unevenness when you touch it by hand. Around this marble ground, high walls enclose a semi-sealed area, with only one door of special material blocking the way outside. It only opens when necessary.
Outside the gate is another small square with a circle of various shops around it: restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, general stores, and so forth, available for those passing by to use. On the seemingly unremarkable square, however, tens of people often gather, waiting for the gate to open.
"Sisters, you must be careful on the way." On the square, the maid sisters waved goodbye to the members of the adventure team about to enter the floating port with four children. Not far behind the six girls, Passion and Indulgence each held a cup of tea by the outdoor coffee table of the café, raising their cups in salute to the younger girls who looked back for the last time. Farther away, seventeen or eighteen travelers with backpacks stood in the square, the people seeing them off huddled around them in a tense manner, repeatedly reminding them of their instructions.
"You all behave well in the city, don’t run around. Pansy, both of you remember the ban I imposed on you, after this you must be accompanied by either Nicole or Rachel when you go shopping. Michelle and Ansha, the two of you remember the instructions from your sister Lina. And you, Little Deer, I’ve left Annie to you, no more whining about being an unwanted child, got it?" Catherine felt quite distressed, as each child around her required her undivided attention.
Seven days ago, after establishing the relationship of commission assignment, Lanna and Lamia agreed with everyone to meet in Lantern Fish City. Then in Guli-Elmer’s company, they hurried to the City of Freedom. They would return to the sea directly from the coast of the City of Freedom and make some preparations in advance for the following actions. While the members of the adventure team chose the fastest way to rush to Lantern Fish City seven days later, and wait there for further instructions.
"Thud, thud, thud." Suddenly, the small square began to rhythmically vibrate slightly. The tables and chairs beside the square groaned in the vibrations, causing ripples to continuously spring up in the teacups on the tables, sometimes even splashing a few drops of tea.
"Wow, sis Freya has finally caught up." The lively Michelle was the first to turn back, waving her hands: "Over here, sis, you’re very slow, luckily you’ve caught up, or you probably would have to run there instead."
In the distance, a girl as big as a small mountain, with a huge backpack hurried towards us. Freya’s outfit today completely departed from her typical style. No longer was she dressed in the opulent noble style she usually did, but instead entirely in a professional’s style. She wore a leather armor just like Lina. The armor was custom-made, allowing her to wear it with ease. Below that, she wore a pair of thick, rugged cloth pants. The fabric was very sturdy, able to withstand the wear and tear of long activities, and the pants were very loose, suitable for climbing different terrains and vigorous activities. She wore a wide belt around her waist that was also custom-made, with a large number of leather buckles on the outside, inside which were stored a variety of peculiar tools. Even with Mr. Pannis’s experience and Vivian’s range of knowledge, they were unable to identify those objects. On her ankles and knees, she had a set of mechanical devices made of a mix of metal and leather. Even though no one recognized the name of these devices, they could guess their use by watching Freya running. With each step she easily covered a distance that was about twice the norm and each time she sprang up, she could jump higher than usual. Two elongated crystal energy guns crossed each other in the back of Freya. Although only the handles of the guns were exposed, judging by the style of the handle, it had never been seen on the market and she likely made them herself. Thus, Freya, with her thunderous steps and accompanied by the ground shaking, dashed our way like an armored bull.
"We should have let her collide with the armored bulls that we came across on the road to the wedding earlier." Only Vivian, who communicated daily with fireball and energy bullets, could comment on the local beloved beautiful ex-princess in front of her in such a way. Vivian curled her lips and said sharply, "Did you notice it? This stupid girl seems to have put on weight again."
"Stop talking nonsense." Catherine rebuked, punching Vivian on the top of her head, "She’s still effective at losing weight, it just seems like she’s gained weight due to the adventurer’s gear, don’t casually poke at people’s wounds."
"Mr. Pannis." The rapidly approaching Freya opened her arms from afar, calling out passionately: "As per our agreement, I have come. Let us create a love story that can be handed down for a thousand years, making all other couples so jealous that they cry over our deep love."
"Bang." Vivian jumped, her magic staff accurately hitting the head of Freya, who just stepped into the range of the attack, "You dummy, everyone is watching, act more reserved. You’re embarrassing us."
"Ouch." Hit with the familiar physical attack, Freya clung to her head, glaring at Vivian in dissatisfaction. However, following Vivian’s demand, she did act more collected. After adjusting her clothes, her round face beamed with joy as she addressed Catherine and Lina: "Sis, and Lina, from today on, Freya officially rejoins the team."
"Welcome home." Catherine extended her arms, symbolically hugging the girl in front of her. It could only be symbolic because Catherine’s arms couldn’t wrap around Freya’s body. Even stretching her arms to their limit, her hands could only rest on Freya’s shoulders. Realizing this, Catherine chuckled wryly, pinched Freya’s meaty face, "You need to continue losing weight. Hand over all the snacks you’re carrying, and you’re not allowed to eat indiscriminately anymore."
"Sis, you can’t do that." Freya protested dissatisfiedly. Yet as a long-ranged professional, she was too weak to resist Catherine. Her struggles quickly subsided, and she reluctantly watched as her large backpack was searched by Lina, revealing bags and bags of snacks: "Don’t, don’t take them away, they are the sustenance of my soul, the most important part of my life. Without them, I will lose my soul and even the most colorful world would turn colorless in my eyes. Without them, my life would be meaningless..."
"Bang." As expected, a solid magic staff hit Freya’s head again. So, Freya indeed became like a soulless person, looking pale as Lina took away all the snacks hidden in her bag and handed them over to the girls who came to see them off.
"Take them home and eat them all." Lina instructed deliberately in a loud enough voice for Freya to hear: "I guess this is enough for you to eat until we come back. Remember, I must not see them again."
"Demons, ruthless demons! You have taken away half of my life." Freya lamented sorrowfully, "Without them, what meaning is there to my life?"
"The remaining meaning of your life is to lose weight." Lina dusted off her now-empty hands, returned and patted Freya’s shoulder, "Wait until you recover your figure, then we will accompany you to snack."
"I don’t see any hope of that day coming." Freya grumbled a few times, then suddenly perked up, "Thank goodness I still have my love for Mr. Pannis as the other half of my life’s meaning. Mr. Pannis, every time I think of you, my chest feels as if a never-extinguishing flame has been lit, the hot fire burning fiercely, bringing me endless courage and hope, I... huh, where is Mr. Pannis?"
"Heh, heh, heh." Lina gave a dry laugh, "I’m not going to tell you, you can find him yourself."
"Don’t be like that, dear Lina." Freya’s meaty hand grabbed Lina’s, she said sorrowfully, "Aren’t we best friends? Aren’t we family? Since we are relatives, why do you hide things from me? Why do you cruelly torment my anticipatory heart? Look up, see the sun in the sky, under such bright sunlight, shouldn’t we open up our hearts and there be no more deception or estrangement between us? We..."
"Bang." Vivian’s magic staff jabbed on Freya’s foot, "Talk properly. Also, Mr. Pannis just ran away because he was scared by you, you dummy."
The girls in the adventure team gathered together, each one very happy. Everyone, in their clumsy or subtle ways, celebrated Freya’s return and the reunification of this family member who had been absent for two years.
"Toot, toot, toot." A loud whistle suddenly sounded in the center of the square, a goblin in odd uniform stood in the middle of the square blowing the whistle. Then, the specially made doors slowly opened to reveal a flat track.
"Alright, it’s time." Catherine stopped the girls from continuing their chatter, waved to the girls who were seeing her off, then turned and walked into the space within the doors. Not until she crossed the threshold did she turn back to say goodbye.
"These are some very good kids, even the Undead. You think so too, right?" Catherine, aware of Freya standing next to her also waving, asked softly.
"Yes, I never thought that the Undead could also be so obedient and adorable." Freya nodded seriously, "No wonder Father didn’t mind their living in the city."
"We should really thank Odin then." Catherine smiled and asked suddenly, "Speaking of which, you are in an exceptionally good mood today."
"Of course, how could I not be in a good mood." Freya squinted her eyes in laughter and answered cheerily, "Always having to maintain the dignified image of a princess, although I’m used to it, it’s really tiring. Now I can finally shed this restraint, live as I please, how could I not be happy?"
"Is that all there is to it?" Catherine said with a suggestive smile, "I thought you were happy because you were finally starting to break away from Odin’s shadow and begin crafting a story of Freya’s that isn’t intertwined with the Princess of the Holy City, isn’t that it?"
"Hehe." Freya held a folding fan she took out from who knows where. She covered her mouth to laugh delicately and gave off a graceful vibe just like a real princess, "Perhaps, who knows."
