Chapter 438: Chapter 6 Legendary Knight Catherine_1

"What...did you say?" Catherine stared blankly at Pannis’s face, stammering, "The new...Legendary Rank?"

"What do you think?" Pannis eyed Catherine curiously, continually making a surprised noise as he spoke, "Unbelievable, truly unbelievable."

"What’s so unbelievable? Hm, it’s nighttime already." Vivian, awakened by the conversation, unclasped her hand from Catherine’s thigh, sat up, rubbing her eyes, a squeal of excitement escaping her lips, "Ah, big sis you’re awake, that’s great."

"I’ve caused you to worry." Catherine ran a hand softly through Vivian’s hair, "I’m fine."

"Huh?" Vivian tipped her head to the side, confusion etched on her face as she spoke to Catherine, "Big sis, I feel that you’ve changed somehow, but I can’t quite put my finger on it."

"Pannis says I’ve been promoted." Catherine clenched her fist, deep in thought as she spoke, "I feel it too. My senses have heightened, my control over my body has grown stronger, and even my supply of... oh my god, is the level of Aggression in the Legendary Rank really this much higher than the Gold Rank?"

"Hence why Legendary Rank represents such a leap. It’s completely different than advancing from Silver to Gold Rank," Pannis replied. "The Legendary Rank can be perceived as the limit the human body can reach. Of course, the changes will be massive."

"Don’t we have Demigods?" Catherine asked, "Why is it said that Legendary is the limit?"

"Demigods are those who have surpassed this limit." Pannis clarified, "Compared to them, demigods are closer to the realm of the gods. They can’t really be regarded as normal humans anymore."

"Alright, I suppose you’re right." Catherine nodded, "But what were you saying about something being unexpected?"

"Unexpected? Oh, yeah. Never thought you’d break through like this," Pannis conjured up a response, "When I helped you sleep that day, I just wanted you to get some rest and recover from that state. I never could have imagined this outcome. But upon further thought, it’s not unreasonable. There are just some things that are impossible to predict."

"Is it reasonable?" Catherine gazed at her spread palm, shaking her head as she said, "I’m totally lost, completely unable to understand why I suddenly advanced."

"The circumstances of promotions vary. It could be an sudden comprehension, inspiration, or even just seeing something. Or like in your case, just sleeping it off," Pannis stroked his chin as he thought out loud, "I’ve been considering, and I think I understand now. You’ve already been on the cusp of promotion, but you were so anxious, you weren’t able to cross that door. Had you retreated, doubted your own path from that setback, you might have lost all chances. But you slept and allowed yourself to relax and so, you accidentally crossed that door. That’s why I told you before, everyone has their own way of advancing to Legendary, because every encounter is unique. Now, do you understand why I said that?"

"Hmm," Catherine nodded quietly, "I guess without reaching that step, I wouldn’t have understood your words. But now that I’ve finally reached it, your explanation doesn’t really matter anymore."

"That’s why being promoted to Legendary is so difficult," Pannis held out his hands, "There were less than eighty living legendary humans before. I can’t believe our little adventure team has now contributed three. We’ve passed eighty now, haha, you guys can go update your personal information at the Adventurer’s Guild tomorrow. It’ll certainly shock a few people."

"By that logic, our team qualifies to be promoted to a Gold Rank Adventure Group," Catherine mused, "Let’s apply together tomorrow. There are only nine active Gold Rank Adventure Groups right now. So, we’d be the tenth. We’d be able to take on higher-tier tasks and earn more gold. This is definitely cause for celebration. Let’s decide. After we’ve upgraded our team level, we’ll definitely throw a dance party to celebrate."

"So, the true reason for celebration is all the additional gold?" Pannis and the other two girls exchanged glances before giving a resigned smile and shaking their heads.

"Ah, you’re all here." At the partially open metal doors, Nicole and Rachel each walked in, carrying large baskets. Ever since they retired and opened their antique shop, their leisurely lifestyle had made them look healthier than before, the fierceness from their dangerous years now absent from their demeanor, their eyes softer. When they noticed Catherine was awake, Rachel happily said, "They said you’ve been asleep for three straight days, we were so scared. But it’s great you’re alright now. They invited us for dinner, so we brought some vegetables and fruits, see, we’ve got a whole lot. There’s also chilled malted sweet wine, it’ll be perfect to drink later."

"That’s great. I was worried we had no drinks," Catherine didn’t hold back. It would have been hurtful to refuse at such a moment, so she happily said, "Since we’ve got so many people here tonight, let’s enjoy ourselves tonight."

"Then we’ll head to the back first." Nicole covered the basket back up, heading towards the backyard, "By the way, we saw three people loitering around the nearby streets. They’re dressed very mysteriously. But they aren’t sneaky about their behavior, so they’re probably not bad people."

"You’re talking about the three people standing at the door?" Pannis wasn’t surprised at all, nodding towards the door, "There are always people who prefer the cloak and dagger. No need to worry, we know who they are. You guys head on, we’ll check it out, and be back in a moment."

The place they were at was nearly a hundred meters away from the entrance, and it was already night, so the outside was dimly lit. Even though Catherine had been promoted and her physical strength had been greatly enhanced, she could only make out three silhouettes. She couldn’t see their clothes at all. Catherine sighed, once again inwardly admiring Pannis’ senses before asking, "We know them? Who?"

"It always reminds me of baked seafood." Pannis frowned, "We can’t eat it, yet the smell of seafood lingers."

"That’s the smell of the sea. Don’t talk nonsense." Catherine struck Pannis with a playful punch, then raised her brow, "Did they all plan this? Knowing we’re having a barbeque outside today, they all rushed over for food. Ugh, that’s a lot of money they’re saving. I think I’ll charge them next time."

"You’re completely hopeless, sis." Lina covered her face and said, "Please, don’t make us admit we know you."

"Come right in, the door is unlocked." Pannis suddenly cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted out, "We’re not coming to greet you."

"Is that okay?" Catherine hesitated, "Isn’t that a bit rude?"

"They’re probably introducing someone for a specific task, first to interact with us," Pannis said. He tidied up a nearby lawn table before continuing, "We’ll have to come back here to have a proper assignment discussion later anyway. Speaking of which, those two with him, they’re under the effect of the Water Mist Barrier."

"The Sea Race?" All three girls thought of the timid baby octopus as their first reaction and couldn’t help but smile.

"These two sea creatures are powerful. Their intentions are unknown at the moment, but we can’t let our guard down. Even though this courtyard is within our control," Pannis said. Then, patting his forehead, he added, "I forgot. We don’t need to worry about their power anymore. If anyone should be worried, it’s them."

"Haha, that’s a nice way to put it. It really boosts one’s ego." Catherine chuckled proudly before addressing the approaching trio. "Commander Gullielmer of the Blue Coral, is it? We didn’t expect to have guests today; we just got our seats. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please, come and sit."

"It’s been a long time, Commander Catherine and everyone else." Gullielmer walked over with a smile on his face and bowed in greeting. "I was afraid the whole way here that you had already left on a mission. Except for Mr. Pannis’ voice, I could finally put my worries to rest."

"It seems that you have an important matter at hand this time, Commander Gullielmer?" Catherine let the visitors have their seats before settling down facing them and asked seriously, "Do you have a mission to introduce to us?"

"Yes, but first, please wait a moment," Gullielmer apologized with a nod. He then turned to the cloak-wearing duo by his side and asked in a low voice, "Their power far surpass that of our adventure team. Now that you’ve witnessed it, do their abilities meet your standards?"

"You said that one of them has advanced to Legendary Rank?" One of the figures asked in the same low voice.

"Yes, she’s a newly-promoted Legendary. Many adventurers are talking about it," Gullielmer replied. "News is coming from the Adventurer’s Guild, so there should be no mistake."

"Then I can only tell you that your news is outdated." The cloaked figure spoke with a voice as flat and rigid as a board and said seriously, "There are at least three Legendaries right here, and the last one is quite... peculiar."

"Ah?" Gullielmer’s eyebrows twitched in surprise, "All three of them have advanced to Legendary?"

"Yes, I was the last one. I just promoted today, and didn’t have time to update my information at the Guild yet." Catherine answered, unphased by Gullielmer’s shock. She then asked, "Is our strength sufficient for your needs?"

"It is enough," said the cloaked figure with a voice so rigid that it failed to reveal any hint of his emotions. "If this level of adventurer team is still unsatisfactory, then we would have to request the guild president."

"Now that you’re satisfied with our abilities, why not introduce yourselves?" Catherine suggested, "Also presenting the task. Given the urgency shown by Commander Gullielmer, I suppose the task is quite important."

"We are from the Sea Race. I am a Six-armed Naga called Lamia." The two individuals lifted their cloaks simultaneously to reveal their faces, "And this is Coral Princess Lanna, of the Merfolk race."

"The Coral Princess? Daughter of priestess Doris?" The question slipped from Pannis as he saw a few perplexed stares from the girls, he could only awkwardly laugh, "Ha, I just heard the name of the current ocean priestess from a friend."
