Chapter 432: Door of the Past - Glory Assault_1
"Boom." A gigantic scorpion-tailed lion fell from the sky, dozens of meters long. It tumbled about in the desert, countless numbers of undead crushed to pieces by its massive inertia and weight, deprived of any possibility to stand up again.
"Oh, dear goodness, little lion." A tremble passed underneath the fluffy body of the scorpion-tailed lion. The winged sisters forcefully poked their heads out from under the mane, massaging their necks and complaining, "We were nearly crushed to death, is this some new style of landing?"
"Are you two idiots?" With a dizzy movement, Dillie shook its gigantic head, spoke in a coarse voice: "I was shot down, how stupid do you have to be to confuse that with landing?"
"Spit, spit." With green skin, Christo spit out mouthfuls of sand as he surfaced. He had been crushed tightly, half of his body was stuck and couldn’t get out. He could only shriek, "Damn lion, shrink in size now. There are several people crushed below you."
"Ha, I forgot about that." Dillie scratched his head like a human, paws covering his face, his body rapidly shrunk, soon changing down to the ordinary size of a lion. Beneath him, besides Christo, the bearman Carl was guarding an older shaman Finche, both of them standing up in an unseemly manner.
"Where are the others?" Having just successfully managed to extricate himself, Christo moved his limbs, asking strangely, "Did they come down early?"
"They’re fighting, little Clara." "Did you forget where we are?" "If nobody fights on the exterior, we would have been torn to shreds by the undead long ago."
"Stop dazing around, once you’ve woken up, prepare to come over and help." "We’ll go first."
The dust from the landing gradually dispersed, and the surroundings regained their clarity. A few people who were knocked a bit senseless, finally noticed what was happening around them. When the team, under Kyle’s command, set off towards the temple from the low altitude, they had just flown a short distance when the bone arrows of skeleton archers started raining down from the sky. They were all demigods, whether they belonged to physical professions or casting professions, even if they stood still for three days and nights, allowing the bone arrows to attack them, they would not be harmed. However, to prevent the weight of the bone arrows from affecting Dillie’s flight, everyone used their own ways to block the bone arrows’ attack. Things were still smooth until then, but in the next blink of an eye, the airspace they were in was swallowed by a dense explosion.
Countless skeleton mages unleashed waves of magical attacks from below, creating a vortex of explosions. Within the vortex, there were bombardments from forty to fifty demigod necromancers. Just one concentrated bombardment caused the demigod-powered team to suffer a surprise attack. Although they didn’t sustain substantial injuries, the attack of the necromancers shouldn’t be underestimated. Due to Dillie’s large size, he was blasted out of his flight and fell down. The continuous rolling left a deep rut in the sand.
Before they landed, half of the people used powerful force to escape Dillie’s back, relying on their own strength to land. They didn’t suffer from the double impact of Dillie and the ground, but majority of the casters were one step behind, unable to escape this calamity. The people who landing normally didn’t need any instruction, the first thing they did was retaliate against the surrounding undead. In a short time, they pushed the defensive line away to a safe distance, forming a vacuum of undead at the point of their crash. Temporarily, no undead could attack in there.
"The temple is in the southeast." Kyle’s voice was steady and powerful, bringing a calming aura. "Concentrate towards the southeast where Flare is."
"Understood." The partners blocking the undead in all directions replied loudly, gradually slowing down their attack and began retreating towards the southeast.
"I will ensure the surroundings are clean." Even in battle, Flare’s voice was still graceful and unhurried. "You all just need to group up towards me."
After saying that, Flare raised her head up towards the sky, shooting a special arrow skywards from her hunting bow. The feathered arrow soared into the sky, instead of dropping after reaching its peak, it hung in the air. In the next moment, flowers bloomed. A dense number of luminescent specks formed around the unique feather arrow, forming a glow, covering hundreds of meters in the sky like they were luminous petals, tightly surrounding the core feather arrow. The large area of petals formed by the glow shone in the dark sky, like luminous flowers. The radiance they gave off lightened up everything within its radius.
"Forest blooming." Flare plucked the bowstring, softly spat out the final command. And thus, the flowers fell from the sky. Extending hundreds of meters, the enormous flower made of light descended from the sky, with each glow turning into a beam, connecting the sky and the earth. As a product of the Life Deity System, elves were favored by life, each of their actions carried the breath of life and this time was no exception. Therefore, when the radiant flower fell onto the earth, it dealt a destructive blow to all the surrounding undead.
Whether it was common skeletons or ghosts, legendary bone knights, death banshees, or even demigods like necromancers, death knights, bone dragons, any undead within the coverage of the flower met their end. The undead that got hit by the god beam withered rapidly and crumbled onto the rough sand, turning into real skeletons.
"We’ll reinforce the line." "Leave the guarding of the spoils to us." Utilising their advantage of flight, the winged sisters swiftly reached Flare’s side. As Flare cleared a radius of over a hundred meters, the sisters promptly surged towards the southeast, halting the Undead who were fearlessly and mechanically stepping into the vacant area.
"Praise be to the Light, praise be to the Lord of Light, Varunshen." Radiant light started emitting from Maya’s white wings. The luminosity of the rays was intense, yet tender and mild, not causing any discomfort to the eyes of the observers. However, the same could not be said for the enemies. The potent light rays seemed to be under control, converging into a straight beam that was fifty meters wide and projected forward relentlessly. It soon extended hundreds of meters farther. Any Undead enshrouded within the rays instantly melted away like ice and snow under the sunshine.
"Praise be to the Dark, praise be to the Lord of Darkness, Cersei." Tiya’s wings, appearing as if they had devoured all light, were utterly pitch black. As Tiya spread her wings forward and pointed her wingtips towards the front, the light from the Path of Light created by Maya was immediately devoured by a black hole. After swallowing all the light that Maya had created, the black hole constantly collapsed inward until it became a single black point and then suddenly exploded outward again. A mass of destructive energy was released through the collision of two completely opposite attributes of energy. Everything within the range of the intense explosion disintegrated into drifting dust.
"Leave the enemies behind us to me. They can’t catch up." When the winged sisters were reciting the Hymns of Light and Dark, everyone had already gathered together. Following the explosion, they charged forward through the path created by the sisters. Old Wolfman Finchy, lacking the vitality of the younger generation, only wielded his Totem Column and traced a deep mark on the ground before being carried by Bearman Carl. They quickly caught up with the others in the group.
A single, seemingly insignificant line was drawn. But five seconds later, out of the blue, a series of thunderbolts cascaded down from the pitch-black sky. Lined up in a row, they perpetually struck the line drawn by the Totem Column, forming a barrier composed of thunderbolts. Inexplicably, the line drawn by the Totem Column would move along with the group, always maintaining a distance of twenty meters behind Finchy. Any Undeads that approached from behind were promptly carbonized by the sheer power of the thunderbolts. As for the Undead of the soul type that didn’t have physical bodies, they faced a far worse fate. Under the thunder and lightning, they exploded into a free state of the Energy of Death, not even having the chance to reassemble their Soul Fire.
It was undeniable that their team was incredibly formidable, arguably wielding the strongest combat power in the Yarran World. No other groups could even compare. Nonetheless, the Undead were much stronger as they were literally inexhaustible and relentless. When engaged in a battle with the Undead, the team had to keep moving perpetually without any stoppages. Any halt, however brief, would result in the team being overwhelmed by the Undead Tide, there was no other possible outcome.
"What a tragic tale," complained Dillie, the Scorpion-tailed Lion, who had long since returned to his seven to eight meters long form. Christo and Mage Philarx, who were physically weaker, sat on his back. The Dwarf Weapons Master and Sand People Assassin were stationed to the left and right of them for protection. Dillie groused, then opened his mouth to release a chain of Energy Bullets, smashing into the oncoming Undead Army. The explosions followed in rapid succession. The seemingly insignificant Energy Bullets managed to forcefully carve a path through the mass of troops. But in the very next moment, countless Energy Bullets erupted from the rear of the Undead Tide. The concentrated bombardment left Dillie with no place to escape, he could only rely on his Aggression Shield and robust physique to withstand the attacks. The passive situation led Dillie to make continuous cries of distress. "Damn it, do I have a feud with the Skeleton Mages or what? Why are they only targeting me? Can they pick someone else?"
"You are the biggest target," Kyle pointed out. Despite the bustling battle, he was continuously rushing back and forth to assist and protect everyone in the group, allowing his companions who possessed area attacks to utilize their strengths. Even in the busiest moments, hearing Dillie’s words, he didn’t forget to turn back and console, "Hang on for a bit longer."
"This can’t go on," warned the dragon Mina, who was always in the center of the group and had refrained from participating in any bout. "We are at least thirty kilometers away from the temple, it could even be fifty kilometers. At our current pace, even if we walked continuously for a whole day, we might not reach it."
"Fighting continuously for a day should not be too difficult for us, right?" Kyle suggested, "Especially under the current circumstances of cyclic combat."
"You forgot one thing, Kyle," a golden glow flickered in Mina’s eyes under the cloak. "We still have no idea what lurks in the temple. For us, it is not the destination, but merely a transit station."
"I am aware of that, Lady Mina," Kyle replied, frowning, "But I have my considerations. However, if you have any suggestions, feel free to share."
"Let Nellie lead the charge," Mina calmly suggested. "I will handle the remaining distance."
"But..." Before Kyle could say more, his hand was grabbed by Nellie. "I can handle it, Kyle. It’s just one all-out charge, it won’t deplete all my strength."
"Then, I’m depending on you," Kyle sighed with a bitter smile.
Presenting an imposing smile, Nellie started making strange gestures in the air. A few seconds later, a neigh echoed in the distance. An ethereal, pure white unicorn passed straight through the Undead Tide and stopped in front of Nellie. Without wasting any more time, Nellie quickly mounted the unicorn, holding her lance slanting upwards. As a sign, a long trumpet noise sounded from somewhere. One thousand Golden Rank phantom knights appeared at Nellie’s back. Their lances, armor, and postures were all in perfect unison. With Nellie at the helm, the thousand knights began their Glory Assault on the sea of Undead. (To be continued. If you enjoy this story, please come to qidian.com to vote and recommend.
