Chapter 421: Chapter 47 - Explosion_1
With a light "clatter", Passion, burdened with Indulgence, swiftly navigated through heaps of decaying equipment scattered across the dimly lit temple. Even with the combined weight of the two, their movements in the darkness remained silent and untraceable. Only occasionally would their leaps make a faint sound.
"Cough cough cough." Indulgence muffled her bouts of intense coughing by burying her face in Passion’s shoulder while they ran. The vibrations triggered by coughing re-opened her multiple wounds, warm blood began to seep out dying Passion’s clothes on her back. Passion bit her lips, without slowing down, she extended a compassionate hand behind her back to touch Indulgence’s blood-streaked cheek. Indulgence weakly lay on Passion’s back, teasingly gnawed on her two fingers, and chuckled in a provocative manner – which soon turned to a more violent bout of coughing.
"After running to the City of Innocence, we haven’t had to run around so frantically like this. Right?" Indulgence murmured into Passion’s ear once the coughing subsided, "This time, you’re carrying me on your back again, I remember the last time it was the same."
"But the last time, you didn’t lose a leg." Passion sighed, hearing the pursuit growing louder, she picked a path through a small door, and set a few traps on the way, "Once all the enemies are taken care of, I’ll quickly go out and find your leg, hopefully there’s still time to preserve and reattach it."
"No need to be so worried." Indulgence chuckled, "If all else fails, we’ll just have a senior priest perform limb regeneration."
"As if legendary magic can be used by anyone. And who would willingly endure such prolonged weakness to regrow your leg? Passion flicked her wrist, several black balls nestled between her finger-tips, scattering silently onto the ground, "However, since this is a mission directly from the guild leader, even if we can’t reattach your leg, the guild leader should arrange treatment, or else who will work."
"That’s why I’m saying there’s no need to worry." Indulgence spoke as if it wasn’t her problem, completely unhurried, "I see things clearer than you. Look, the way Catherine appeared earlier, showed that she already knew what happened to us, especially my leg. The only way they could know was if they had seen my leg already. This simple matter, you just can’t see it because you care too much. But I like that you care for me so much."
"Shut up." Passion’s face turned a slight shade of red due to the exhaustion, she gritted her teeth and said, "I haven’t forgotten what you tried doing to me when we first met."
"Hey, but didn’t you end up doing it to me instead, I couldn’t resist. " Indulgence teased back, about to say more when suddenly, several soft explosions echoed from the other room. It was the effect of the black balls that Passion had scattered earlier.
Now’s the chance, was the first thought that crossed the minds of the two top-ranked thieves. Indulgence slapped her own body, reopening several wounds, fresh blood dripped onto the ground. She pulled out a bottle of healing powder and dabbed some onto her wounds. The intense healing properties of the powder stemmed the bleeding, but the pain caused her entire body to tremble. Passion, without time to comfort suffering Indulgence, scattered a different healing powder onto both of them, immediately neutralizing the scent of blood that hung around them.
"Patter." The pair were getting ready when a tiny, barely audible sound echoed throughout the room. It sounded like a grain of sand lightly hitting the floor. Their hands momentarily paused before resuming their preparation, but surprised glances continued to be directed towards the source of the sound.
"Patter, patter, patter." The faint sound echoed around them once more, as though circling them. Passion’s pupils contracted to the size of a needle-point, her gaze instantly shifted to where the sound had originated from, her ice-cold face breaking into a slight smile. Without further hesitation, she leaped into the air, pressing against the wall, positioning directly above a row of glowing bricks. They concealed themselves against the wall, their shadows fading under the dual effects of their skills and light, staying completely undetected.
"Thud", the door was pushed open forcefully, with Three and Four rushing in. As soon as Four stepped in, his sword turned into a shower of light, encircling him without leaving a single gap.
"Nobody?" Three, without pausing at a single spot, quickly made a round of the room, "They didn’t come from the other side, so they must be in the room."
"Finally decided to stop running, planning to fight here, are they?" Four a woman in her sixties, with white hair and bloody red eyes, says, "Then they might as well come out and get it over with. After dealing with you, we still have to go back to watch those four in anguish."
"Maybe they are just trying to buy some time," No.3 mocked, "Perhaps, they’re still fantasizing that the four rescuers can defeat Zero and save the two of them. Ha ha ha ha, how foolish. Once Zero gets serious, none of us stand a chance."
"Therefore, watching a group of people struggle in their final moments is indeed exciting." No.3 and No.4 kept ridiculing and laughing. Yet their movements were full of caution. They never separated and their fields of view crisscrossed covering the whole room. Even if someone suddenly appeared behind one of them, they would be discovered instantly.
"The smell of blood?" No.4 raised his eyebrows, his gaze instantly shifted to the pool of blood left on the ground by Indulgence, but he didn’t get any closer, "Ready to play these psychological games again? Trying to make us guess if you’re hiding there? Heh, but it’s a pity, it’s useless."
A flash of the sword rose. The thin sword in No.4’s hand flung out several arcs of light, leaving a dense array of cutting traces around the blood. At the same time, No.3 was guarding next to No.4, waving his one-handed sword to block all possible attack ranges, regardless of whether there was an enemy, leaving no opportunity.
"Tsk, nothing?" No.4 spat discontentedly, turned and walked in another direction. After a few steps, he suddenly turned around without warning and released a Vacuum Slash that swept a large area, but still didn’t hit anything.
"Dammit, where are you?" No.4, famous as a grumpy legendary swordsman in his life and still impatient after being resurrected as a ghoul, roared, "If you don’t come out soon, we’ll cut the whole room with Vacuum Slash, you’ll have to come out sooner or later."
"Drip drip", with No.4’s threat, the sounds that were as faint as sand falling continued to sound. It was like an invisible person, stepping on small steps, mischievously circling No.3 and No.4. The faces of No.3 and No.4 became cold, they swung their swords at the same time but no matter where the weapon cut, there was nothing in return.
"What the hell is this?" No.4 was increasingly irritated by the sound persistently circling him. But No.3 restrained him in time, "Don’t rush, if you hurry you’ll fall into their trap. They should be the ones who are anxious right now, not us. If the time is prolonged, not only will the rescuers be killed by Zero, even that short-legged one won’t survive. We can be patient and wear them down here. When they can’t hold on any longer... he he he he."
"Good plan." A relieved smile finally appeared on No.4’s grumpy face. He just wanted to follow up on No.3’s words with a few more taunts to make Passion and Indulgence feel mentally pressured, but before he could say anything he suddenly saw a blurry figure sneak across the corner of the wall nearby.
"Got you." A sinister smile appeared on No.4’s face. He rushed to the position where the figure had been, swinging the thin sword non-stop. The sword point tore the air, with countless light arcs covering the area where the figure was. After the attack, there was nobody at the devastated location. But No.3 and No.4 noticed a few more things on the ground. When they leaned in to take a closer look, there was a picture on the ground using simple lines, it was of a person with a very cute smile on his face, closing one eye in a mysterious manner. At the same time as they saw the picture on the ground, a strong magical fluctuation suddenly erupted from under their feet, like the sign before an extremely powerful magic explodes.
The two of them changed color and retreated as far as possible from the fluctuation point with all their strength. But just after they retreated, this magical fluctuation dissipated at the peak, just like a troublemaker, making them mentally tense but having no other effect.
"Not good." Although the violent magic fluctuation had dissipated, No.3 and No.4 each exclaimed in surprise. Unbeknownst to them, several small spherical objects had appeared in No.3’s backpack. The mana brewing in these black spheres had reached the edge of explosion at any time, these were the mana bombs that Vivian always carried with her. The sudden surge of magic from the picture on the ground perfectly concealed the signs of these mana bombs going off, leaving No.3 and No.4 unprepared.
"Damn." There was no time to throw away these mana bombs. No.3 quickly distanced from No.4, and No.4 roared, opening the Aggression Shield at the moment the explosion occurred.
The rumbling sound finally came. Although No.4 managed to open the shield in time, she was still thrown off balance by the close-range explosion. When she barely recovered from the dizziness caused by the explosion, she saw a man she had never seen before waving goodbye to her not far in front.
Distracted by the man who suddenly appeared, No.4 lost the last chance to awaken in time. A dagger broke through her weakened shield due to the explosion and directly cut off her neck.
