Chapter 366: Chapter 77 The First to Leave_1

As the meeting room door was violently kicked open, the attention of the seven seated captains was instinctively diverted by the sudden occurrence. In the next instant, everything changed.

Each person remained in their position, each person maintained their original posture, appearing as if nothing had occurred. However, no one could believe that nothing had actually happened, for each captain had been inflicted with more or less a few wounds.

The most severely injured was Curiosity, who still sat squatting in a chair, a dagger stuck deep into his right chest. Unremoved, the dagger penetrated all the way to its hilt. Rather than pulling it out, Curiosity stared curiously down at his chest, touching the dagger, murmuring to himself as if in a trance. Nobody could comprehend what he was saying.

Next was Suspicion, who sported cuts on his left shoulder, right leg, and lower abdomen. Currently, he did not even have time to treat his wounds, he simply sat in his chair, quietly catching his breath.

Elegance still maintained his elegance, yet his right palm now sported a clear penetrating wound. One could see everything on the other side through this wound. Elegance held a dignified smile studying the sudden new hollow in his palm with interest.

Madness had a wound on his right leg, where three thin swords had left circular penetrating injuries. Cruel bore wounds on his right arm, two injuries exposed the stark white of his bone, one could even see knife scars on the bones. Passion’s right shoulder had been stabbed by a dagger that had penetrated obliquely from the side, threatening to injure the lung beneath. The space between Indulgence’s left middle and ring finger had been sliced by a dagger. The blade cut through half his palm before halting at the wrist bone.

This was the comparison of power Suspicion had mentioned, a stark comparison of immediate kill capability. In one mere blink of an eye, they had nearly made several people drop out simultaneously. Furthermore, the key point was that none of the seven had thought to fight to the death at this moment; everything had just been an unexpected accident.

When the door was kicked open, the attention of all captains was drawn to it. Still, dividing their attention during a battle among the captains, in front of others, was no different than slamming their neck onto someone else’s dagger. Therefore, as soon as they realized their divided attention, they immediately vacated their original positions at the quickest speed possible and launched attacks on a randomly chosen target. Thus, leading to the current situation. As for whose wounds were inflicted by whom, probably no one knew except the involved parties.

"Wow, it’s quite lively." Pannis was fully oblivious to the tragedy he had nearly triggered. After kicking open the door, he directly marched in, waving towards the seats of the captains with a smile. "Everyone’s here, what are you all up to? Why are you all covered in blood? Doesn’t it make you uncomfortable?"

Everyone, be it the guests or the Shadow Hand captains, even Pannis’ teammates, they all looked at him with odd expressions, or to be precise, they looked at him and Catherine, who were soaked in blood, with no idea how to express their current state of mind.

Regarding such intruders, the most surprised weren’t the hosts such as Cruel, or even the other captains, it was Passion and Indulgence. They never thought that entrusting Catherine and Vivian to scout around the sewers would bring back over a dozen people. Moreover, among them was Pannis, who they were advised to provoke less by the guild master, and a Legendary Rank elf. With their help, things should go smoothly, right? But, would they really help? Recalling their previous manipulation of Catherine and Vivian, Passion and Indulgence looked at each other and sighed simultaneously.

"Heh." Suspicion, clutching at his abdominal wound, scoffed. "They sure arrived early, but now it’s your turn to be uneasy, Lord Cruel."

"They are?" Cruel looked at the eleven people who walked in. Excluding the two normal maids, the power of the remaining nine was considerable, enough to counterbalance the two robed mages he had invited as reinforcements. It seemed events were drifting beyond his control, perhaps it was time to make some adjustments to his plan. With that thought, a naive smile reappeared on Cruel’s face. "Are these the people Lord Passion and Lord Indulgence sent to contact the cultists? I wonder what purpose Lords have for calling them back at this time."

"Hmph, I happen to have a Memory Crystal here. It very clearly records who has been in contact with the cultists," Catherine coldly snorted, tossing a Memory Crystal to Passion. The cooperative action of Catherine surprised Passion and Indulgence greatly, they stared at her in astonishment. Catherine smiled politely at them, then turned and said, "We have a minor issue with these two mage gentlemen, and will not interfere with your heartfelt exchanges."

Catherine’s reaction made Indulgence chuckle bitterly and shake her head slightly, she surreptitiously made a grimace at Passion.

"So, it’s you guys." The robed mage, standing at a distance, spoke calmly. "Since you’re here, they must be dead already."

"That’s right." With her hand on the sword handle and holding up a shield, Catherine responded gravely, "All four of them are dead, you guys are next. There are two thousand vengeful souls in Spindle Village still waiting for you."

"And the hundreds of people living near Diersalem City." Lina stepped forward to stand behind Catherine and addressed the robed mages, "What have you done to those people? What is your ultimate goal?"

"Avenge for those people?" The robed mage launched into a strange chuckle as if hearing an interesting tale, "Have you forgotten where we are? This is the City of Innocence."

"But they are not simply seeking vengeance or pursuit." Catherine, flabbergasted by the robed mage’s riposte, was about to speak, but Indulgence interrupted. Seemingly oblivious to the pain in his hand, he beamed, "They are under my commission, charged with eliminating anybody closely related to the cultists. It seems like the two of you fit the description, isn’t it so, Lord Cruel?"

"They, of course, have nothing to do with the cultists." Lord Cruel appeared to be unruffled, speaking in a calm voice, "They are specifically hired to combat the cultists. The occasional confrontations with cultists that you documented were inevitable."

"Really?" Indulgence smirked and activated the Memory Crystal, "But I conjecture, it won’t be recorded as such here."

The recording on the Memory Crystal was straightforward, split into two parts. The first part showed the group of people entering a room filled with machinery in a sewer, talking to the enemies, including two robed mages. The second part was when the robed mage had a private conversation with some cultists after leaving. When those two parts were put together, they wholly revealed the truth.

But even after the recording ended, Lord Cruel remained serene, rhythmically tapping his fingers on the table and quietly asked, "What are you trying to imply, Lord Indulgence? You can’t possibly be naïve enough to believe that in the City of Innocence, these two recordings could prove anything?"

"Of course not." Indulgence tilted backward, sprawled in the chair, spreading his hands in ridicule, "But at the very least, it proves the adventurers’ pursuit of them is sanctioned by me, the person in charge of ferreting out the traitors, therefore, their actions don’t infringe upon the rules of the City of Innocence."

"Humph." Lord Cruel grunted and abruptly stood up. Simultaneously, one of the two robed mages thumped his magic staff on the ground. Legendary-rank mana spread out along the ground, severely disrupting the mithril pipes set up within the entire building to channel the Crystal Energy for illumination. The lights in the casino flickered out, plunging the entire place into darkness.

In the dark, a thunderous boom of magic explosion resonated from the conference room. The building shook, the ground trembled. The guests huddled in the resting area were startled by this sudden turn of events but dared not run amok, hunkering down with their heads down. Some high-ranking ladies emitted sharp, piercing screams.

Half a minute later, the lights returned. Of the two robed mages, one was nowhere to be seen—judging by the residual magical energy of teleportation magic left behind, he had managed to escape in time. The other one lay sprawled on the ground facing up with lifeless eyes staring at the ceiling, a gaping wound lay across his throat, nearly decapitating him. The sight on the other side, the stage where the leaders stood, was even more devastating. Curiosity and Passion intertwined, with Passion’s dagger piercing Curiosity’s heart, and Curiosity’s dagger almost disemboweling Passion. If Passion hadn’t used the trap-setting steel pins she carried with her to stitch the severed stomach skin back together, her intestines would have probably spilled out already. Regardless, the hastily patched wound had robbed Passion of her combat ability, and as time wore on, the injury would only aggravate, ultimately leading her to her death.

Indulgence, however, had sustained lesser damage—there were few added burn marks on his already injured left hand.

"Hehe." Pannis snickered at a volume only those next to him could hear, his gaze shifting between Indulgence’s palm and the corpse of the robed mage on the ground, "This is turning out quite interesting, isn’t it?"

But Catherine was fixated upon the wound on Passion’s stomach. Even though she felt exploited, her animosity hadn’t escalated to wishing for their demise—they were once her friends. That made her increasingly restless, whispering to Lina, "Hey, can you sneakily heal her a bit?"

"Lady Elegance." Lord Cruel laughed, "You wouldn’t allow outsiders to interfere in our internal disputes, would you?"

"Hehe." Gracefully crossing her fingers and resting them on her lap, Elegance spoke, "You may do as you wish. I am just here to spectate today. However, matters internal to the Shadow Hand are best kept undisturbed by outsiders."(To be continued..
