Chapter 352: Chapter 64 - Turning the Tables_1
In an instant, everyone’s gaze was focused on Pannis. Pannis looked as usual, neatly dressed, unharmed, and there was even no hint of hurried breaths. He stepped up the stairs, after tossing the severed head, Pannis kept the headless body aloft with his left hand, gave it a look, a weird smile came out on his face, finished examining the headless corpse was then thrown at the Elemental Mage: "Look, the other half came along too, Hope it’s not too late."
Everyone stared at Pannis in surprise, even forgetting the fight. There was incredulity in everyone’s eyes, no one could imagine how Pannis, with only Silver Rank power, was able to kill someone of Legendary Rank. Even Muir who knew Pannis’s real identity was surprised, because from beginning to end he had not sensed any signs of energy outbreak, meaning Pannis did not regain his demi-god power to fight, he achieved this effect simply with his current Silver Rank power.
"Is it strange?" Pannis’s smile deepened, his eyes colder, he said to the Elemental Mage, "Let’s all stop for a moment, let him rest, and let me explain to him. But, dare you hear it?"
"What would I be afraid of?" The Elemental Mage stepped back a few steps creating a distance between him and some of the close professionals, and closed the high consumption Magic Shield: "How did you do it?"
"Pannis, we don’t have much time." Muir was a bit anxious, he knew the difficulty of their situation. While the Endless Opera House can theoretically trap a Legendary professional for seven minutes, the actual situation and state of both sides also matter. If the one trapped had any special means, early escape would be typical. So by now, the opponent’s Berserker could appear at any time at the original location where he disappeared. He didn’t have a second long-term control skill to use, and by the time it reverts to a three-versus-nine situation, it would be harder to win again. So seeing Pannis leisurely wanting to create psychological pressure on the Elemental Mage, he urged, rather impatiently, "We can’t waste time now, deal with him as soon as possible."
"Relax, Muir." Pannis crossed his arms and slowly walked towards the Elemental Mage, "I know what I’m doing. Hehe, I have special tricks, as long as I want it, even if I stand here, I can easily kill you."
"Are you joking?" The Elemental Mage looked at Pannis with the eyes of a fool. He checked the distance between them and it was at least thirty meters. He took the time to recover the mana exhausted from holding the Magic Shield for a long period, "Just you, a mere Silver Rank?"
"If I weren’t sure, would I be foolish enough to give you this leisure time to recover your mana?" Pannis clenched his right forearm, slowly moving his wrist, and sneered, "So you really don’t believe it?"
The Elemental Mage waved his hand, laid seven or eight protective spells in front of him. Although his companion had already died in Pannis’s hands, he was still confident. He did not believe that someone could break through the multiple protections he had set up over a distance of twenty to thirty meters, and even if the protection was broken, he still had a Legendary Rank Magic Shield. He had already decided that as soon as the opponent’s attack touched the protective spell, he would activate the Magic Shield in advance, so as not to inadvertently tread the same path as his companion. After making all the preparations, the Elemental Mage provocatively said, "Of course I don’t believe it, you can try and see."
So, he also died.
The last word was still stuck in his throat and hadn’t had time to spit out, the Elemental Mage suddenly felt himself rising rapidly, the distance from the ground getting farther and farther. His peripheral vision could still see a headless body that looked very familiar, maintaining a standing position on the ground, blood spouting from it, and then the world was plunged into darkness.
Everyone felt like they couldn’t keep up with what was happening, totally unable to comprehend why the situation had evolved to this state. Four minutes ago, the battle between four Legendaries and one Legendary plus eight non-Legendary professionals was still a foregone conclusion. The girls and religious ones had already fought with a do-or-die attitude, everyone was struggling for their own lives, but no one really dared to believe that they could survive this battle. Even when the Necromancer was mysteriously killed, no one really believed they could win.
But things often turn out like this in the world, situations often reverse in an instant.
At that time, everyone’s eyes were focused on Pannis, everyone wanted to see what he was going to do and how he did it, so no one noticed, behind the Elemental Mage, a black painted dagger appeared without warning, like a black lightning bolt across the Elemental Mage’s neck.
"Heh heh, you see, you’re dead." Pannis chuckled and started walking again, "Thanks a lot, unknown friend."
Only then did everyone notice that behind the body of the Elemental Mage, a man draped in a gray cloak was standing. No one knew when he had appeared or when he had stood there. It seemed like he had sprung up from that spot, and then simply swung his arm reap the life of the Elemental Mage.
"Who are you?" The suddenly appearing cloaked man was wrapped in his cloak from head to toe, one couldn’t see his face, but from his voice, one could hear a thickness of doubt "How did you find me?"
"What are you talking about? Why don’t I understand?" Pannis wore a confused look, scratching his head, "It was you who suddenly appeared and snatched my prey. Why are you asking me how I found you?"
"Do you take me for a fool?" the Cloaked Man spoke coldly, "When we were outside the door, you lagged behind, keeping the door open for me to enter. When I hid at the bottom, you led that Undead Mage right to me, not once, but twice, enabling me to kill him easily. To top it all, you didn’t even display a hint of surprise when I did. Then, when I sneaked behind this Elemental Mage, you purposefully caught everyone’s attention through your words and actions. Are you trying to tell me these are all mere coincidences?"
"Hahaha, did I do all that?" Pannis chuckled awkwardly, "Some coincidences in this world can’t be comprehended, maybe this is one of them."
"How about we finish this fight first before chatting?" Muir spoke loudly, "Don’t forget, another Berserker is about to come."
The battle on Muir’s side continued, but the tide had decidedly turned. The one being rushed wasn’t Muir anymore, but the Shield Warrior, Aide. He was eager to reach the spot where his companion, the Berserker, had disappeared. The newly emerged Cloaked Man’s attack power had aroused fear in Aide’s heart. Clearly, the cloaked figure was a Legendary Rank assassin, so Aide chose to guard the place where the Berserker had vanished. The moment the Berserker appeared, he would protect him, and maybe then, they would stand a chance in battle. But getting past Muir’s defense wasn’t easy. Aide was constantly impeded by various slowing and enhancing spells. Moreover, Muir’s offensive spells and explosive arrows always forced Aide to take steps backwards.
"Hmph." The Cloaked Man snorted, with a swift wave of his cloak, he disappeared from everyone’s sight. Only Muir could vaguely see him, but even then, after he moved a certain distance, even his blurry figure vanished. As everyone was instinctively looking for the Cloaked Man, they realized Pannis had disappeared too. He had used the same method to leave everyone’s sight.
"Here it comes." The Gold-rank professionals quickly gathered where the Berserker had disappeared. Once everyone was in position, Muir gave a warning and then purposefully cancelled the Divine Spell.
The Endless Opera House was Yeda’s Divine Spell, it banished enemies into a projection of an opera house within an alternate space created by divine power. This spell didn’t carry any offensive power. It simply separated the target from his companions for a brief period. Used wisely, it was the strongest controlling Divine Spell for implementing a divide and conquer strategy.
The moment Muir deliberately canceled his Divine Spell, the Berserker appeared abruptly at his vanishing point without any delay, followed by a barrage of weapon strikes and spells that launched the fiercest assault on the Berserker’s hefty body. However, while Muir could prevent Aide from racing in to help, he couldn’t stop the spread of sound. As soon as the Berserker returned, he heard Aide yell urgently, "Beware of the enemy!"
As a matter of fact, Aide was overthinking it. As soon as the Berserker returned, he had sensed a threat and activated his Aggression Shield. Hearing Aide’s warning and seeing the encompassing attack, he gave a cold snort. The Aggression Shield almost materialized and transformed into an Aggression Blast. A violent shockwave swept across the Berserker’s surroundings, repelling all attacks and their perpetrators far away, making them tumble on the ground. After dealing with the crisis, the Berserker surveyed his surroundings. Upon confirming that there were no threatening enemies, he instinctively shut down the all-encompassing Aggression Shield, which drained a lot of energy.
And so, he also died.
Two daggers appeared at the same time. One swished past the Berserker’s thick neck from behind, the other sprang from a blind spot below the line of sight, puncturing the Berserker’s sturdy chin from beneath and piercing his brain.
The Berserker was the most aggrieved one among them all. Despite possessing the strength of the Legendary Rank, he hadn’t used it at all before dying inexplicably. He hadn’t even grasped what had caused his demise or what had led to his defeat before he died.
"So, are you planning to continue the battle?" Muir smiled, dissipating the magic in his hand and gently strumming the strings, "You can’t possibly win now. There is no chance."
"It seems you want to get some information from me." Aide didn’t resist futilely anymore. He threw away his axe and casually sat on the ground, "But why would I betray my present faith?"
"You were resurrected only because you didn’t want to die, and not because you actually had faith in the Grimreaper." Pannis shrugged, "So you just have to tell us what we want to know. We won’t intervene in where you want to go or even talk about your actions. Why not agree to such good terms?" (To be continued. If you like this novel, you can vote for it on qidian.com.
