Chapter 350: Chapter 62 Battle Against a Higher Level_1

"Stop wasting time with them." The resurrected Aide said to the purple-robed mage, "Finish this quickly and head over there, I always worry things may change, the City of Innocence’s collaborators are not trustworthy."

"Sure enough, I thought you wouldn’t be the leader here." Muir nodded, "A ghoul can only reanimate those of lesser ranks than themselves, only a Demigod can revive a Legendary Rank corpse, it seems you have at least one Demigod hidden behind you."

"That’s none of your concern." Aide may be short and fat, but his voice was rough and loud, full of momentum: "You’re the elf Muir, right? I’ll give you a choice, join us in death, or die forever, choose."

"Hm, an excellent choice." Muir sneered, "From what I recall, Aide Gairinin would never do such a thing, otherwise, he wouldn’t have been respected by many."

"What would a long-living elf like you know about it." Aide scoffed, "You will never understand the fear humans with a life span of merely a hundred years face in the shadow of death. I used to think I wouldn’t do such a thing, but when I was at death’s door, I truly grasped the terror of death. What does it matter what I do, as long as it allows me to live again? Plus, you don’t even know what we’re doing, we’re awakening a great God, sacrificing to a potent God. The sacrificed may be dead, but once our master resurrects, they will obtain eternal life within the God’s Divine Kingdom. It is their honor."

"You make it sound glorious when in truth, you’re merely just afraid to die." Pannis had a complicated expression, he sighed, "Perhaps fear of death is inherent in some people, it’s difficult to avoid. But it’s not fear of death that’s terrifying, but rather using it as an honor, in that case, you might as well just die again."

And so, the fierce battle suddenly erupted.

The first to join the battle was not Pannis, but Muir. On the journey here, Muir had always been polite and gentlemanly, often causing people to overlook his Legendary Rank status. But after the battle curtain was drawn, Muir displayed his powerful strength in the first instant, taking on multiple opponents at once, he put pressure on three people simultaneously in a short amount of time. Muir’s weapon was a Flaron Harp, a seven-stringed instrument similar to a harp, but longer and narrower, akin to a bow, with a wide range when played. As an Elf, Muir inherited the traditions of the Elves. When chanting, the Flaron Harp served as a musical accompaniment, when casting spells, it functioned as a transforming magic staff, and when attacking, it could turn into a hunting bow, making it versatile.

"The eight of you deal with him quickly." Muir said urgently, "I can’t hold him for long."

Muir was suppressing the one-armed purple-robed mage with magic attacks, he used the exclusive divine spell, Endless Opera of the Goddess of Music and Art, Yeda, that could only be used every eighteen days to trap the silent Berserker. He used a continuous barrage of arrows to keep the leader shield warrior, Aide, preoccupied, leaving the other silent and nameless mage for the rest.

It must be acknowledged that Muir’s tactics were very accurate. The undead mage inherently had a disadvantage in all other types of magic and could temporarily suppress, if the Berserker entered the berserk state, his attack power would be so strong that it could not be given to others to deal with, thus, the high-level divine spell had to be used to trap him. The shield warrior’s defense power was too high, thus, leaving him to the other Gold Rank team members would make it impossible for them to win quickly. The only way to hope for a swift resolution is to leave the other attack-heavy and defense-weak Element Mage to them.

The second to join the battle was not Pannis either, but Catherine. As soon as Muir’s offensive began, Catherine had already rushed out, coincidentally choosing the Element Mage as her target. Catherine’s move was the Charge of Fearlessness, one of the knight’s most straightforward yet challenging skills to master. With the left shoulder pushing against the back of the shield and the right hand strengthening the left from above, maintaining a forward lean and go full out with aggression, she charged at the Element Mage who had just got to his feet with all her might. The Element Mage hadn’t even steadied himself when he faced this attack. Although he promptly deployed the Magic Shield, he failed to completely offset the impact from the skill in his rush. He staggered backwards seven or eight steps, distancing him from his fellow companions.

"Now, attack." Marcia raised the two-handed greatsword that was as tall as her. With her body ahead and the sword behind, she took a few running steps before leaping high up, slashing down at the Element Mage from above.

It was impossible to tell which legendary mage had become this elementalist out of fear of natural death, but they were clearly a professional skilled at combat. Unphased and making no attempt to evade Marcia’s fierce assault, they remained still, flicking their left index finger in the air. A shower of sparks flew forth, which expanded abruptly midair. The glow expanded into a raging inferno, engulfing Marcia mid-leap. Marcia hastily brought her sword in front of her, hiding behind the broad ridge of her blade to shield herself from the waves of fire. Although she didn’t sustain serious damage, her momentum was interrupted by the explosive flames, sending her flying backward.

Upon landing, Marcia rolled to defuse the force of the fire. As soon as she stood up, a ray of white light descended from the heavens, healing her burn wounds. Clearly, this was a blessing from the benevolent god, Denia.

The elemental mage repelled Marcia with a flick. Without pausing their movements, their left hand pointed towards the approaching Catherine. A bright arc of electricity shot from their finger, immediately connecting with Catherine’s shield. An electrical attack should have caused considerable harm to the fully armored Catherine. But to the mage’s surprise, Catherine didn’t convulse or char in response. Before the electrical attack reached her, a curtain of light appeared on the surface of Catherine’s shield. The electric arc struck the light curtain, instantly deviating downwards and disappearing into the ground. Smiling elegantly and lowering her raised right hand, Teresa said, "Lightning, another boon from the Wind God."

"Element, Scorched Earth," growled the elemental mage, casting an intermediate spell for the first time in a chanted manner. The mixed earth and fire attribute spell was potent when used by a legendary mage, whose attack was enough to significantly drain or even fully exhaust the aggression shields of all gold rank professionals present. However, Vivian was still there, with her staff a point in mid-air. Her incantation was shorter and faster than the elementalist’s: "Element, Vacuum."

"Thought you could cast a spell? You should have asked me first," Vivian sneered. Vacuum magic was an extremely low-level, inconsequential spell for mages. It created a vacuum in a few tens of cubic centimeters of space, persisting for less than a second. It was theoretically possible that, if it appeared at the right moment and at the right place – like, for instance, the mouth of a spellcaster – it could interrupt the incantation and function as a counter-spell. But this required unimaginable precision and control, almost an impossible feat. Only a scant few mages in thousands of years of history ever managed this. However, it seemed that one more name was to be added to this list.

The vacuum spell, lasting less than a second, should not have had any significant effect. But appearing at the mouth of the elementalist, it was enough to create a small zone of silence, interrupting the forming spell at the right moment. Although the power of a legendary rank exerted a resistance to the backlash of the aborted spell, it left the elementalist feeling out of sorts. They frowned and were about to cast another spell when they saw a pair of one-handed swords cross in front of their eyes, aiming for their throat like a giant pair of scissors. Enbow’s seductive eyes, hidden behind the glaring swords, revealed a cold, murderous intent.

The mage, miserly with his own mana, was reluctant to use a shield to resist the dual swords for fear of wasting power. They hastily retreated two steps to evade, but somehow Ben, a cleric of the Wind God, had appeared behind them. Ben’s weaponless fists heavily pounded the elemental mage’s back. Luckily, the mage sensed the danger in time to activate their shield, preventing any harm.

It was typical for professionals of Yarran Continent to face higher ranked opponents in such a disproportionate manner. To compete with an average legendary ranked professional, they would typically require ten to fifteen average gold rank professionals. While they were plentiful in number, they could only truly harm a legendary professional by exhausting their shield. However, draining the enemy’s shield wasn’t as easy as one might think. Just like the previous eight person coordinated attack, which only managed to strike three successful hits: two fists and a shield. Conversely, a legendary professional could easily retaliate, using their shield to soak up the damage and employing their destructive power to attack their opponents. They would always exhaust their opponents’ aggression, killing them first. Another way to triumph involved allowing rogue assassins and archers to launch a surprise attack on an unprepared legendary professional. However, professionals able to ascend to the legendary rank, even those not proficient in combat, possessed an innate sense of impending danger. Hence, ambushes were rarely effective.

As a result, the battle was in deadlock for the moment. This was what Muir least wanted to see because the opponents wouldn’t keep falling into his traps indefinitely.

As expected, after being suppressed by Muir for less than two minutes, the necromancer seemed to come to his senses. After blocking one of Muir’s magic attacks, he took a step forward and deployed the Dimensional Door, a short-range teleportation spell, then set off towards the ongoing battle against the elementalist. If he were to get involved there, the currently favorable eight-on-one combat scenario would quickly turn disastrous and culminate in total annihilation.

However, as soon as the necromancer stepped out of the Dimensional Door at a normal pace, he was met with Pannis’ radiant smile. His dagger was aimed directly at the necromancer’s throat, located only a dozen or so centimeters away. The necromancer, who had been attacked similarly by Pannis just a few months ago, had barely escaped with his life. His face turned pale in fear. He not only activated his shield but also retreated over a dozen steps to widen the distance. Suddenly, he heard a soft clicking noise under his feet, as Pannis shouted, "Catherine!"

The noise under his feet made the necromancer’s heart tighten. It was the sound of a trap being triggered. However, even knowing this, he couldn’t prevent the trap from activating. He felt a force coming from underneath, propelling him nearly half a meter into the air, leaving him momentarily suspended.

Upon hearing Pannis’ shout, Catherine glanced sideways and immediately understood Pannis’ intention. The Charge of Fearlessness started suddenly, then mid-charge transitioned into a shield bash, hitting the suspended necromancer solidly, sending him rolling down along a corridor of stairs. After dealing with the necromancer, Catherine didn’t pause. Her running trajectory traced an arc, and in the blink of an eye, she returned to her battlefield, as if nothing had happened.
