Chapter 347: Chapter 59 Wind Speech Technique_1
"Whooo", the continuous wind blew incessantly over a fork in the sewer, causing a low wail. Teresa knelt at the intersection, her hands intersecting under her chin, a deep and rapid prayer flowing from her lips. It held an odd rhythm which comforted and pleased whoever heard it. A group of people stood behind Teresa, silent, each staring silently at Teresa praying to the wind god and quietly waiting for the result of the prayer. This is a unique divine spell of the Wind God Church, using prayers to the wind to catch vague information carried within it, thereby sensing what’s happening in their surroundings.
However, Catherine and Pannis were missing, having quietly slipped away when the others weren’t looking. Lina and Vivian noticed but consciously chose not to speak out, pretending as though nothing had happened.
The first to leave was Catherine. Not long after Teresa began praying, Catherine covertly held her chest and left like a thief taking advantage of when no one was paying attention. The maid sisters, who were always at Catherine’s side, intended to follow but were stopped by Pannis from behind. Pannis seemed to know what Catherine would do and waved his finger at the two maids, asking them to stay where they were and focus on the uncommon prayers. He vanished into the dark shadows, leaving everyone’s sight.
Catherine quietly made her way to a corner far from everyone else, reached in her chest to retrieve a pendant, knocked on it lightly and whispered, "Annie, Annie, are you okay?"
The head of a small girl appeared from Catherine’s hand. In the dim, cold glow, the sight of a young girl holding a human head and conversing with it would scare any ordinary person half to death. But Catherine was accustomed to it, relieved to see Annie coming out and patted her chest, whispering, "Ever since I fainted and woke up, I haven’t noticed you. I was worried something happened to you."
"I’m fine." Annie found Catherine’s sneaky demeanor amusing and lowered her voice to match Catherine’s, "You told me a few days ago not come out, so I’ve been careful."
"Good girl." Catherine gave Annie a pat on her hair, making the situation even more bizarre while asking, "I heard that you used the Banshee’s Howl. Are you okay? You weren’t hurt, were you?"
"Yes, I felt terrible." Annie’s expression dimmed; Catherine tensed, but the little banshee quickly continued, "My throat was hurting all night."
"You little trickster! You scared the hell out of me." Catherine poked Annie’s face with her fingertip,"Don’t trick me, you hear?"
"Ok, ok, I’m fine." Annie laughed triumphantly, then switched her gaze and said in surprise, "Oh, Brother Pannis is here too."
Following Annie’s gaze, Catherine saw nothing but the shadows outside the globe of dim light, impossible to spot Pannis. Catherine understood Pannis’s stealth skills and was not surprised by the current situation. She gave what she assumed was his direction a thumbs up in appreciation, and in response, heard a soft cough.
"It’s fine, don’t worry about him. He’s just overly nervous." Catherine explained and asked Annie, "Are we still on track?"
"We should be." Annie cocked her head in thought before nodding, "Anyway, there’s a scent from our target all over this place, so I think we’re not lost."
"Still unable to determine the exact location of the target?" Catherine asked, "Even if it’s a scent, there should be differences in intensity."
"It’s hard to explain to you. You’re not undead, so you can’t comprehend this sensation." Annie twisted her mouth in frustration, "The sensation of resentment only differs in presence or absence, there is no such thing as thick or thin. So I can only say it’s here for sure, I can’t say anything more."
"That’s okay; it’s already incredible that you can detect this much, Annie." Catherine quickly reassured her and patted her head again to cheer Annie up, "Let us handle the rest. Please bear with it a little longer, Annie. Don’t come out unless I call you for the next few days, it’ll be fine once we are back home."
"Okay, you can count on me, sister." Annie nodded emphatically, "Being with older brothers and sisters, I don’t feel uncomfortable at all."
"Good girl." A hand reached out from behind Catherine, patting Annie’s head. Apart from frightening Catherine slightly, the action earned a cheerful greeting from Annie and a bright smile. After greeting the little banshee, Pannis said to Catherine, "Let’s go back now; it sounds like they’re almost done. Although you’re downwind here, if we continue, there’s no guarantee that the guy who sets up the wind speech won’t sense it. Moreover, without any reminder, you already know to hide Annie carefully."
"Then let’s go back." Catherine tucked the pendant back into her clothes, "Passion and Indulgence said a few things to me, so I’d rather be careful. I don’t want Annie to suffer unfair treatment. But, were they telling the truth? Could Annie really be connected with the disaster that happened a hundred years ago?"
"How would I know?" Upon hearing this, Pannis shuddered, barely managing to control his panic, "Why are you asking me?"
"Don’t you know a bit about everything?" puzzled by Pannis’s strange reaction, Catherine asked," Is there something wrong with asking you these weird questions?"
"Erm... indeed, there is nothing wrong," Pannis coughed a few times and said, "You don’t need to take what they said too seriously. I don’t think Annie has a necessary connection with that disaster."
"But it is indeed a coincidence in terms of time," Catherine frowned, somewhat uneasy, and asked, "I asked Vivian and it indeed, as they said, seven or eight conscious undead have suddenly emerged in the past hundred years, so it’s hard to say that has nothing to do with that war, isn’t it?"
"Saying it is completely unrelated is not exact," Pannis explained, "The real reason for the day of the Return of the Dead that year was the awakening of the God Soul Fragment that had been sleeping in the alternate space. The owner of that fragment was a deity who had control over the authority of death. So, after the two spaces were forcibly docked, the power of the deity was transmitted to the Yarran World through the docked space, and it was inevitable that some unique changes would occur. It’s not really surprising. These changes are harmless, so there’s no need to worry."
"That’s good, now I’m relieved," Catherine breathed a sigh of relief, suddenly looked at Pannis with suspicious eyes and asked, "You are very familiar with what happened back then and are so mysterious, you wouldn’t happen to be someone from that era, would you?"
"What are you joking about?" Pannis retorted with a smile and a frown, "Where do I look like a hundred-year-old man? Besides, I’m a human. I would have been a pile of bones a long time ago with over a hundred years gone by."
"That’s not certain," Catherine said indifferently, "Lina and Vivian didn’t see it, but I did. At the Crying Cave, I saw with my own eyes how your dead body vanished, then you reappeared, you even were able to deceive death, so how could you fear the issue of age?"
"Stop fooling around, it was just a bit of deceptive trickery," Pannis explained pretending to be calm, "How could there really be people in the world who won’t die."
"You have a point," Catherine smiled wryly, clearly still not completely unconvinced, "Don’t worry, I won’t ask anymore, you mysterious guy."
Catherine was very smart, and she had an astute understanding of the human heart. She knew very well that a smart woman, when dealing with a man, must not scrutinize the secrets that he willingly hides, the more closely their relationship, the greater her understanding. Such foolish behavior can only lead to cracks, ultimately regretting nothing. On the contrary, letting the other party know that she was pretending to be confused and letting go of his secrets, would actually bring them closer due to gratitude or guilt.
"Huh? Where are Miss Catherine and Mr. Pannis?" Teresa’s voice came from not far away, obviously, the Wind Speech technique had ended.
"We are here," Pannis and Catherine stepped out of the shadows together.
"Where were you...?" Teresa looked at Pannis with confusion, "Is there anything happening over there?"
"That’s a secret." Pannis put his index finger to his lips and whispered, "We can’t say it in front of so many people. How about, we go to a secluded place to have a heart-to-heart, and then I will secretly tell you where we went."
"Hehe." Teresa looked at Pannis with a strange pity, and finally sighed, "I’m sorry, I’m a priest, I never confess to the dying, so I can’t have a heart-to-heart with you."
"A confession for the dying? Hehe, hehe, you must be joking." Pannis bowed his head with a dry laugh, dodging the sword that was slashing sideways, "Wait a moment, Catherine, listen to my explanation, listen to my explanation."
"No problem." Catherine grabbed the collar of Pannis’s back and dragged him back into the shadows at the side, "We’ll find a place where no one is, and I’ll listen to your explanation slowly, hehehehe, you can explain all you want."
"Help." Pannis was helplessly dragged along, crying with tears streaming down his face, "Murder, help."
"Alright, the troublemaker is gone," Teresa rubbed her face, took off her stiff smile, and said with her normal expression, "The wind has told me about the enemy’s situation. Our guesses last night were correct. The location chosen by the other side, first fulfills there being enough space, second, it does not have these twice-daily pipeline dredging measures, and third, it’s relatively concealed."
"Where is it?" Muir asked, "How far is it?"
"It’s very close, less than half an hour’s journey," Teresa took the real-time map from Pansy’s hand, pointed at the lines displayed on the map and said, "See this rectangular area? On the surface, it seems to be a blank area, but it’s actually not. This is actually a hidden man-made room, the specific situation is not good to explain, we can talk about it when we get there, we can now proceed towards there." (To be continued.
