Chapter 288: Chapter 1 Long Live Peace_1

"I was immersed in boundless fear! I endured the torment of suffering! I tolerated endless despair."From within the mansion at No. 6 Fox Street, Pannis’ eyes were bloodshot, his fists tightly clenched, his teeth gritted as he stared at the three girls before him. In a hoarse and exhausted voice, he accused," And you three were laughing all along! You’ve utterly betrayed my trust in you, you’ve wiped out your humanity, you are nothing more than a group of demons!"

"Oh." Lina lounged with one leg thrown over the chair in the living room. Upon hearing Pannis’ complaint, she casually flipped a page of the novel in her hand, and carelessly remarked, "Demons, how scary."

"Especially you, Catherine." Pannis slammed the coffee table, pointing at Catherine and said, "Just a few minutes ago, I was standing in front of you. And yet a few minutes later, you left me to die."

"Mmm, this red tea is not bad." Catherine elegantly held a cup of red tea, took a small sip, and praised, "The flavor is full-bodied, it must be a premium red tea from Salazar Island."

"And you, Vivian." Pannis shifted his attack target to Vivian again, "You..... Forget it, you wouldn’t hear me anyway."

Quite clearly, while Pannis was in a rage, Vivian had completed the transition from a lucid state to a contemplative one. She was completely immersed in her thoughts and impervious to the loud noises around her.

"Is this all you have to say?" Pannis dejectedly cried out, "Do you not feel the least bit of guilt?"

"Hmm, the surface of the water is rippling." Catherine had returned the teacup to the coffee table by now. She saw a few ripples on the surface of the tea, a smile perked at the corner of her lips, and she watched Pannis with interest as she rested her chin on her hand, "Can you guess why the water surface ripples?"

The next instant, Pannis had disappeared from the living room. Only an open window could testify to his previous presence. "Thump, thump, thump," the ground shook slightly. The swift and heavy footsteps grew closer. The front door was flung open with a bang, and Freya squeezed her round body through the entrance, shouting from the hall, "Sisters, I’m back. Mr. Pannis, come out, let’s get married."

"You’re too late." Catherine picked up an empty teacup, poured a cup of red tea for Freya and put it aside, "He just slipped away, you missed him."

"What a pity." Freya plonked herself on a chair, and the legs of the solid wood chair immediately groaned in agony. Ignoring the deformed chair, Freya picked up the teacup. The small teacup in her large hand brought a touch of indescribable joy. Sipping the red tea with the same elegance as Catherine, Freya sighed regretfully, "Next time I will come earlier and must meet him."

It had been three days since their return to the City of Knowledge. Ever since Wesker and Freya met in the wilderness of the Neutral Land four days ago, the Adventure Team’s mission to protect the princess and safely escort her to the City of Freedom had been a complete failure. However, since Freya wasn’t heartbroken over it, but rather quite merry, the girls didn’t dwell on the mission’s failure. After chiding the culprit, they happily returned to the City of Knowledge. But perhaps not everyone was as cheery, perhaps someone wasn’t satisfied. But who cares about him?

Since then, Pannis’ tribulations had begun. In the days that followed, this scene had become a daily morning routine in the mansion. Every day in the early morning, Pannis would sob out accusations about his miserable situation and then slip away before Freya’s arrival. He would only return quietly at night once everything was safe, and brood over the theme of his accusations for the next day.

"Are you planning to rejoin us?" Catherine smiled as she looked at an old friend she hadn’t seen for some time. Although her appearance had changed, her habits haven’t changed at all, which made her very happy. "Are you ready to go adventuring with us again?"

"I’d love to." Freya sighed, "But I still have a few months of schooling left. After I move out of my teacher’s place in a few months, I’ll move in here directly. Then we can fight together."

"Does the President know about this?" Catherine asked doubtfully, "He couldn’t possibly feel at ease about you living outside."

"He wouldn’t dare to refuse me at the moment." Freya said indignantly, "His deceitful actions this time really upset me, so I’ve been giving him the cold shoulder these past few days. He’s currently trying to appease me. Besides, there’s nothing he needs to worry about with me adventuring with you guys. Especially after this incident, he’ll feel even more at ease."

"What exactly happened before?" Catherine asked, "You said you were going to ask the President for an explanation, have you figured it out now? Shouldn’t there be an explanation for us?"

"It’s actually pretty simple." Freya explained, "I’ve told you about the past. Anyway, stupid as I was, I fell in love with Wesker and confessed my feelings to him. He was speechless in shock at that time, and I thought he was too excited to speak. But actually, he was scared by my appearance."

"How did you end up looking like this?" Catherine chuckled, "Did you really eat your way to this size?"

"It’s just that simple." Freya puffed her chubby cheeks in frustration, making a comedic round face, "I didn’t realize it at first, and since I was at my teacher’s place and there was no one else to remind me, it was too late when I realized. After that, I thought, this is good too, it can test the men who want to pursue me, so I simply continued. Sure enough, now that the test has happened, it has tested out true hearts."

"Stop kidding yourself, Trying to evade you is a normal human response." Catherine retorted, "And isn’t Pannis also running away as soon as he sees you? Why aren’t you disappointed in him?"

"Mr. Pannis is different." Freya defended stoutly, "Mr. Pannis has been running away from me from the very beginning, he never had any intentions of pursuing me. Therefore, such a man is worth pursuing. You don’t understand how difficult it is to find your other half among thousands of creatures. Every step is like walking through a thorn bush or dancing on the edge of a knife. The slightest misstep, and your soul will be pierced... "

"Uh, just continue explaining your situation." Catherine looked at the two girls with a plea in her eyes, one reading her book, the other daydreaming, neither showing any intention of helping. She had no choice but to cut off Freya’s monologue, "What happened after Wesker’s proposal?"

"Once I showed up and agreed, my father naturally consented." Freya continued, "But as soon as I left, Wesker snapped out of his shock and immediately stated that everything he had just said didn’t count and we should pretend that they hadn’t come today. My father was incredibly angry, and almost beat him with a stick just like he used to do when I was young. After all, fathers understand their daughters, he knew that my heart is fragile and easily shattered, like the wavering shadows of a tree at dusk, any disturbance would turn things chaotic and confused... "

"Thump", Vivian’s magic staff silently extended to tap precisely on top of Freya’s head.

"Ouch." Freya gripped her head, complaining, "Look at her, sis! How could she tap my head while she’s in deep thought, wasn’t she supposed to be unresponsive to the outside world?"

"Well..." Catherine, sipping her tea with a flippant look, said, "Maybe, tapping your head has evolved into an instinct in her life."

"Is there even such an instinct?" Freya retorted loudly, "Also, why did tapping me become an instinct?"

"Who knows, haha, don’t sweat the small stuff." Catherine dismissively waved her hand, changing the subject, "You were about to get to the point in your story earlier, what happened then?"

"My father was furious, seeing it as a blatant insult, so of course, he disagreed." Freya continued her story, "But Wesker, clinging to my father’s leg, was crying so pitifully that my father softened a bit. Plus, with Uncle Kara persuading him on the side, my father eventually decided to give Wesker a chance, and so a bet with Uncle Kara came about."

"A real bet?" Catherine said, both annoyed and amused, "We actually guessed right, what was the bet about?"

"The bet was secretly made between my father and Uncle Kara, no one else knew about its content." Freya said, "In fact, the bet was really simple, basically if I could make it to the City of Freedom on time. The bet’s stake was the wedding invite. If I showed up on time, the wedding must proceed, no matter how much Wesker cried. But if anything went wrong on my end, the wedding would be off. However, the bet had a supplementary clause - no party involved could be informed."

"So the chairman sought us out, did he?" Catherine asked.

"Yes, my father seemed to know from the start that he could not win the bet, making no effort to try." Freya explained, "His purpose in finding you guys wasn’t really to keep me safe for victory, but more so because he didn’t want me to be upset. He knew you guys would strive to comfort me when I’m down."

"Humph, so the chairman was hiding the true situation and using us from the very beginning." Said Catherine with a neigh, looking displeased, "The chairman went too far this time."

"Sorry, big sis." Freya clasped her hands together, smiling ingratiatingly, "Please don’t be angry with my dad, I apologize on his behalf."

"Huh, aren’t you having a fight with him?" Catherine asked curiously, "So, you’re not angry anymore?"

"I’m worried about you guys getting angry." Freya sighed, "I understand how bad it feels to be kept in the dark the whole journey."

"Alright, alright, I’m not that petty." Catherine laughed, "Just kidding."

"Phew, in that case, I’m relieved." Freya stood up and let out a sigh of relief, "Since big sis isn’t angry, then I’ll take my leave first."

"So soon?" Catherine was taken aback, "That’s much earlier than usual?"

"I have things to do today, See you."

The sound of the door opening rang out, and Mr. Pannis swiftly snuck in through the window like a thief, "Hehe, finally, she left, I’m back!"

"Heh," Catherine pointed behind him with an ambiguous smile, "I think you should look behind you before getting too zealous."

Sweat broke out on Pannis’s forehead, and he stiffly said, "Ca, Catherine, you’re getting better at joking, hahaha."

"Yes, I’m just joking, hahaha." Catherine held up her tea cup and laughed in a monotonic voice, "Don’t worry, on this day next year, I’ll offer flowers for you."

"Mr. Pannis!" The living room door was abruptly pushed open, and Freya jumped in with open arms, laughing, "Come with me to the Church!"

"Help!" Pannis turned and darted toward the back door, "Stay away! I’ll call the city guards if you come any closer, help!"

"Phew, the world is so peaceful." Catherine took another sip of her tea and closed her eyes in satisfaction, "Long live peace." (To be continued. If you like this work, welcome to qidian.com to vote, your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
