Chapter 285: Chapter 50 - The End of Love_2

"Father has already abandoned us." Wesker said: "He refuses to help us, says it’s a matter for children to resolve themselves."

"So, you brought Amanda out here? This is Amanda, isn’t it? She was only this tall when I last saw her." Freya went over to the little girl and touched her head, but the little girl, as if harboring a deep hostility towards Freya, quickly moved two steps away to her brother’s side, glaring angrily at Freya. Freya smiled faintly, not taking offense, but continued, "I recognized her the moment I saw her about ten minutes ago. That’s when I understood that it was you who wanted to stop the wedding. At that moment, I felt my heart shatter and life lost all meaning. I felt like my remaining days would be joyless, like a living dead. At that moment, I even wanted to run away, to a deserted island in the sea, leading a lonely life. Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it?"

"But very soon, I saw our eldest sister risk her life to save you all, watched Lina and Vivian struggling to comfort and rescue her, and saw Mr. Pannis - completely defenseless- standing in front of our injured sister. I suddenly realized how ridiculous I was, wallowing in despair just because I wasn’t sure about your love for me. Now that’s truly absurd." Freya sighed again, although her tone was calm, sadness filled her eyes, "Especially after hearing what you just said, I realized I really didn’t love you as much as I thought I had. Just like a naive child who knows nothing, thinking she knows what love is. Now that’s truly absurd."

"I’m sorry." Wesker dropped his head, speaking softly, "I know it sounds hollow, but I really want to say, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize it would hurt you this much."

"No, you don’t need to apologize, I have my share of the fault too." Freya shook her head, "Since the engagement brings you so much pain, let it be, the engagement is hereby cancelled."

"You, you agreed to cancel the engagement?" Wesker asked, surprised.

"Of course, marriage is the continuation of mutual love. Since you do not love me, and I do not love you as much as I thought I did, why should we cling on to an engagement?" Freya surprisingly laughed. Her chubby face breaking into a beautiful smile, "And, actually, I should be thanking you. On this journey, I not only gained a clarity of thought but also met some important people."

"There’s someone who dislikes me because they believe there’s a divide between us, there’s someone who woke me up from my delusions with stories, and there’s someone who helped me make sense through my confusion and sadness with subtle words. Compared to you, maybe he’s the one who is really right for me." Freya abruptly turned around, and behind her, Pannis was tiptoeing slowly into the wilderness, so lightly that no one beside him noticed, "Mr. Pannis, where are you going?"

"I, I just remembered, I don’t think I locked the door when I left." Pannis, thinking fast, turned around to run, "I’m going back to lock the door."

"Don’t go." Freya spread her arms, chasing after Pannis, "Mr. Pannis, I’ve realized that you are the protagonist of my perfect love."

"But you’ve figured it out, there’s no such thing as perfect love." Pannis ran frantically ahead, "It doesn’t exist, don’t lie to yourself."

"No, perfect love does exist, I just found the wrong person." Though chubby, Freya was quick on her feet, "Stop, I think we are perfect for each other, let’s get married."

"Stop joking, I hardly know you." Pannis was running like mad along the path where Wesker and the armored bulls raced, "Who ever heard of getting married without knowing each other first?"

"But once we’re married we’ll get to know each other." Freya beamed a genuine smile, "I’ll become a good wife, I promise to work hard on losing weight. Trust me, stop running."

"Stop joking. The last lady I knew who claimed she would lose weight only did it after her corpse turned into white bones." Pannis made a round and again passed through the crowd, "Help, you three can’t just stand there looking."

"Oh." The three girls turned around neatly, their backs to Pannis, "Then we won’t look."

"You guys are heartless." Pannis’s pitiful cries echoed again.

"Hahaha, Mr. Pannis, just accept my proposal." The ground was shaking as Freya, laughing heartily, once again passed the crowd.

"Is Freya serious about this?" Catherine chuckled, her back to the human drama unfolding.

"Probably just a way to get over her sadness." Lina pursed her lips, "Didn’t you see even Pannis playing along?"

"I think it’s half and half, half joking and half serious." Despite her young age, Vivian spoke like an adult.

"Well, that’s good too." The three young girls looked at each other, revealing identical smiles, "It feels like our house is going to be much more lively in the future, hehe."

A few kilometers away, on a mound, two old men quietly watched the scene.

"You have lost, brother Odin. No matter what, Freya has shown up, and she agreed to cancel the wedding herself, so the wedding would definitely not take place. Therefore, let’s formally cancel the engagement."

"Alright, Kara, I agree, the marriage contract is officially canceled." Odin nodded, but showed no disappointment, "Although I lost, in a way, I also won. After all, Freya isn’t sad, and that is a victory."

"How isn’t that cheating?" Kara snorted, "You must have secretly told the one you brought in for reinforcement."

"No, I did not. He figured it out." Odin said smugly, "It’s just when he confirmed with me, I did not deny anything, I did not cheat."

"Confirmed with you?" Kara was surprised, "Don’t tell me he was the first one to guess. I’ve been watching them from afar, they had no chance to contact you."

"No, you’ve overlooked one opportunity." Odin chuckled, "When we were on Chaos Mountain, he went to scout. You kept your eyes on the three girls and he lured me into this innate mental barrier from afar and confirmed it with me."

"That cunning man. It’s just like him to..." At the end of Kara’s view, Mr. Pannis who was being chased, glared angrily in this direction, "Huh, why is he angry? I didn’t provoke him, did I?"

"Your darling son nearly crashed that armored bull into their leader." Odin gloated, "Do you think he should give you a thumbs up and praise you for doing great job in crashing it?"

"That rascal is too gutsy, he might cause a serious accident. Earlier on, I almost couldn’t hold back and intervened with the armored bull." Kara complained, "When we get home, I need to give him a lesson."

"You should be giving yourself a lesson first. Who do you think your son learnt his playboy ways from?" Odin snorted, "He even involved my daughter. If the outcome hadn’t been okay, I wouldn’t let you and your son off even if I lose."

"Hahaha, I did not chase after women, don’t slander me, hahaha." Kara laughed and turned to leave, "Let’s go. Let the kids deal with the rest."

"However, I think your siblings... something is not right with them." Odin watched as Kara left and finally spoke, "Aren’t you worried they might create some problem?"

"As long as they both feel happy and satisfied in the end, there won’t be any problem." Kara said dismissively, "How can ordinary ethics and customs confine the hearts of people in the City of Freedom who always pursue freedom? If the two of them are willing, I will personally officiate the wedding for them."

"You really know how to let things go." Odin chuckled, "See you, brother. I’ll come to drink with you some other time."

"You’re always welcome." (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit qidian.com to vote for recommendation and monthly tickets. Your support is my biggest motivation. Mobile users please visit m.qidian.com.)
