Chapter 270: Chapter 36: The Outcome Has Been Determined?_1

The little girl in a rabbit mask, dressed in a red robe and leaning on a magic staff, stood atop the platform, overlooking the valley below as if she were a queen surveying her subjects. Drawing back her extended right hand, the rock in the sky lost its illusion magic disguise and exposed its true form. With the loss of illusionary and levitational power, it fell rapidly under the force of gravity. A giant shadow enveloped the cargo of wagons from above, growing larger by the moment.

"Beware of the shock, get down!" cried Ayrland, quickly rolling off his horse and sprawling on the ground. In an instant, all fighting ceased, and everyone dropped to the ground, covering their heads. Many of the previous opponents found themselves lying side by side, sharing an awkward smile after a mutual glance.

With a deafening crash, dust flew up everywhere. The impact of the rock hitting the ground caused a minor earthquake. People felt the ground shaking all around them. Many horses fell over due to the trembling, and the few that remained standing were panic-stricken. They wanted to flee in all directions but were held fast by the wagon wheels, so they could only neigh in fear.

"Victory is ours." The girl in the rabbit mask took a few steps back as the dust billowed up. She didn’t look back at the disaster below, instead hugged her magic staff to her chest and displayed an extremely proud smile: "Dear brother, your little sister has not let you down. We won! We utterly won!"

"Is that so? I must offer you my congratulations." A mechanical, emotionless voice recited behind the young girl: "Do you need to plan a ball to celebrate?"

"Who is there!?" The little girl was taken aback and spun around, clutching her chest as if she had seen a ghost. Unbeknownst to her, a figure had appeared behind her small frame.

The figure was dressed in a similarly styled robe, but in dark blue. They also held a magic staff, and their face couldn’t be seen, but for a different reason - it was hidden under the hood of their robe. Even their slim, short stature was similar.

"Would you like one?" The mage behind her asked in a flat, unemotional voice. As they spoke, half lengths of blue hair encapsulated in mischievous signs of life peeked out from under the hood: "If you need one, we can help you arrange it."

"So, it’s you, you’re Vivian." The rabbit mask regained her composure, her head held high in arrogance: "I did not expect you to arrive so quickly. However, it’s a pity. Your response was too slow. You did not spot our lethal switch. The victory has already been decided. Are you here to give a defeat speech?"

"Yes, the victory has been decided." Vivian removed her hood, revealing a hat shielding her blue hair and two short ponytails. She pointed her chin forward, signifying: "Before discussing the speech, I suggest you look below. A friendly tip - you’ll be surprised."

A strong sense of foreboding filled the bunny-masked girl. She rushed to the edge of the platform and peered down. With the help of the Hawkeye Spell, she could clearly see everything below despite the hundred-meter distance. The dust below was gradually dissipating, and the trembling had stopped. People were starting to get up tentatively. Yet, the critical point was the boulder. The fall from such a height not only smashed four cargo wagons into pieces but also shattered the boulder itself. Through the debris of the rock, one could see the remains of several horses that had pulled the wagons, and the broken pieces of wood that once belonged to the wagons. However, there was nothing else. The gifts and wagons were nowhere to be seen. It seemed that the boulders had only destroyed some empty wagons. Something was off - the number of stones greatly outnumbered the boulders themselves, indicating that the wagons were not empty, they merely contained a lot of rocks.

"You!" The girl in the rabbit mask turned around sharply, staring angrily at Vivian: "You cheated. You swapped the cargo."

"Oh, we are all the same here." Vivian had an irritating smile on her face and spoke in a tone that would make anyone grit their teeth: "You have your plans, and we have ours too. If we didn’t do this, how could we get all of you to appear? "

"Did you guys plan this beforehand?" The rabbit mask pouted, "When did you swap the wagons?"

"Obviously this morning." Vivian stood, hands on her hips, looking triumphant: "We knew you wouldn’t let us reach the City of Freedom without a fight, so we switched the wagons this morning. After our teammate scouted the road, we discreetly knew your whereabouts. We then pretended to fall into your trap so as not to let you escape. Otherwise, do you think that your crude illusion could fool my senses? Too naive. The magical fluctuation from your illusion was as obvious as a lighthouse in the dark - almost equivalent to writing ’I’m here, come quickly’ over it. Do you know how hard it was for me to resist looking there? You even put 37 Floating Arrays on it. Don’t you know that 37 Arrays are enough to lift a skyboat and it costs at least 70,000 gold coins for a single charge? Do you know how hard my sister had to fight with the urge to rob you guys? You would have ended up being robbed instead."

"The one calling others a fool is the biggest fool!" The rabbit mask pointed at Vivian’s nose and shouted: "I am not a fool. It’s you guys who are too deceitful. None of you are good people!"

"Of course we’re not good people." Vivian revealed an evil smile and slowly approached the rabbit girl like a wolf, her hands repeatedly clenching in the air: "Now that we’ve caught you, why not tell us who’s behind all this? Otherwise, I have a thousand ways to make you regret it, haha."

"Don’t come over here." The rabbit girl was clearly still a child. Not only was her voice juvenile, but so was her temperament. Seeing Vivian getting closer and having nowhere to retreat because of the steep cliff-like slope behind her, she could only look around in panic for help: "Don’t come near me. I am a powerful mage. If you come any closer, you’re as good as dead. Why are you still coming closer? Stop, or else...I..."

"Or else what?" Vivian spoke in a menacing tone, like a stereotypical villain: "No one can save you in these wilds, you might as well confess."

"No, I won’t. I won’t tell you anything about my brother. You are a bad person." Seeing Vivian getting closer, the rabbit girl finally gave in and fell to the ground, crying out loud: "You’re bullying me, you’re all liars, you grown-ups are the worst. I don’t want this, I want to go home."

"Hey, hey, don’t cry," Vivian was taken aback by the sudden action of the little girl, standing there awkwardly and rubbing her hands helplessly. "I didn’t do anything yet, why are you crying? Just say who your brother is. We’ve said nothing about bothering him, there’s nothing to cry about. Stop crying now, or I’ll start crying too."

"I won’t tell you, I’ll never betray my brother," the little girl sobbed out stubbornly while declaring, "You are sure to deceive me again, I won’t believe you. You’re all liars."

"You?" Vivian caught the subtle distinction in the little girl’s words. "Who else is there besides me?"

"And me," a large hand gently landed on Vivian’s thin shoulder. She tensed up and heard Pannis’s voice, "Don’t be nervous, it’s me."

"You scared me." Vivian patted her chest and turned around to see that Pannis was slightly shaking his head. Unable to resist her curiosity, she asked "What do you mean? You’re saying we should stop questioning her?"

"Yes," Pannis nodded, "let her go."

"Why?" Vivian was stunned and then suddenly realized, "Is it because of the reason you mentioned this morning but kept hidden?"

"Yes, that’s the reason," Pannis replied, "I’ll definitely tell you after it’s all over."

"Alright, alright, I wonder how it went with Lina and Catherine. Looks like we’ve wasted our efforts this time. By the way, how did you come up here? How are things below?" Vivian accepted Pannis’s reason without hesitation and voiced her disappointment.

"At least when I came up everything was normal. Both Lina and Catherine bit the dust. The other side escaped using a pre-arranged Crystal Teleportation Array. Only this little one who was spying on us got caught," Pannis glanced at the little girl who began crying louder again, then continued speaking. "As for those bandits, most of them escaped. The ones who were caught, Lina is treating and questioning them. I doubt she’ll get any credible answers, the leaders had already slipped away. The remaining ones are kept in the dark. However, I heard from them that they hoped to be incorporated into a certain mercenary corps. This was their test, but who knows if that’s true and even if it is, who knows which corps."

"Anyway, you already know, why question further?" Vivian wrinkled her nose to express her dissatisfaction then turned to the little girl who was once again peeking out from under her mask. "We won’t question you anymore, leave quickly or I’ll change my mind."

"You’re really not going to question me anymore?" The little girl cried out incredulously, "You’re really letting me go?"

"Well, what else is there to do? You’re already crying like this," Vivian pretended to be fierce, "Do you not want to go? If you don’t, we’ll keep questioning."

"I’ll go, I’ll go!" The girl jumped up excitedly, eager to leave but wary passing between Vivian and Pannis. She had no choice but to shuffle sideways slowly.

"Be careful not to fall off, watch your steps," Vivian was frightened by the girl’s movements, "We won’t eat you, there’s nothing to be scared of."

The girl carefully moved sideways until she was beside them. Seeing that they had no intention of pursuing her, she bent down and busied herself with something on the ground. She took out an activated crystal and placed it on the ground, finally looking up with a timid, "Thank you."

"Hmph, you won’t be so lucky if we meet again," Vivian gritted her teeth, "Go away, idiot."

"I don’t want to meet you again, and you’re the idiot," The girl became translucent, her courage growing as her figure faded. Prior to disappearing, she stuck out her tongue and pulled a face. Along with the bunny mask on the upper half of her face, she seemed especially cute.

"That naughty child." Vivian laughed, "But they really aren’t bad people. Let’s go and help out below." (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcomed to recommend and support it at qidian.com. Your support provides my greatest motivation. Mobile users can read it at m.qidian.com.)
