Chapter 238: Chapter 4 The Princess’s View on Love_2
Upon entering the dining room, they saw Annie, a young banshee, beaming and sitting eagerly in her designated seat, looking expectantly at the door. Upon seeing everyone enter, Annie was so overjoyed that she floated into mid-air and plunged into Pannis’ arms. Pannis cuddled the young banshee and patted her on the head before Annie happily hopped back on the ground to play with Ansha and Michelle.
"Is it really okay for her to be so clingy?" Catherine worriedly eyed Pannis, "Won’t it have any special impact?"
"No problem, I roughly understand why she’s particularly clinging to me." Pannis vaguely explained, "It won’t affect me."
"As long as you’re aware." Catherine didn’t continue to pursue the matter, "But we have two more people today, is there enough food?"
"Don’t worry, I’m a professional chef." Pannis raised his head proudly, walked into the kitchen, and brought out a variety of food. The mixed aroma quickly filled the restaurant, as the enticing scent continually stimulated the appetites of everyone present.
"Alright, Catherine, you can carry on." Pannis served everyone a bowl of creamy oyster soup. The milky soup was dotted with dark oysters. A single sip would greatly stimulate one’s appetite, "You and Freya are good friends?"
"Very good friends." Catherine said, "We met her not long after the adventure team was formed three years ago. To be precise, she was the fourth member of the adventure team at the time."
"Actually, the whole story begins from the start." Lina interjected. Since she had psychologically accepted Pannis as one of them, when no outsiders were present, she hardly ever put on her imitation mask. The current her was quite casual in her table manners, compared to other clergy. She certainly didn’t observe any strict rules like not speaking during meals, "Two and a half years ago, just after our team had been promoted to the Silver Rank, Freya, who got word of it from somewhere, came to us and asked to join. Her skills, well, they were about the same as the rest of us at the time. She was a Beginner Gold Rank mechanic and part-time Crystal Gunner — quite a rare occupation. We saw that her abilities were good and Odin, her father, vouched for her reliability. So, we accepted her."
"After that, we went on several adventures together, all of which were well-accomplished." Catherine continued, "Our bond grew stronger and stronger during these adventures, and we figured it would keep on like this. But then, there was a problem two years ago."
"Well, it’s not really a problem per se, but rather, she suddenly wanted to quit the adventure team two years ago." Lina said, "It’s a come-and-go-as-you-please kind of place, so there is no need for a specific reason. Out of respect though, she did tell us her reason. She had been following a master gunner for training. The master then told her that she needed some real-world experience and gave her a year to join an adventure team for real adventures. Now that the time was up, she needed to go back to keep learning."
"Since then, we never saw her again." Catherine said, "Before we met her, even though she had been learning, she often appeared in the Holy City. However, after that, she completely disappeared from public view."
"Huh, isn’t that pretty normal?" Pannis asked, puzzled, "But why did you all sigh as if things have taken a turn for the worse?"
"Oh, you misunderstood." Lina explained, "What we’re sighing about isn’t that she returned, but that she’s getting married."
"Is her getting married a very strange thing?" Pannis asked in confusion, "Your reactions are very odd."
"How should I explain it to you?" Lina said, ruffling her hair in agony, "Her views towards romance are quite...unique. They are hard to understand for ordinary people. I don’t know if she’s changed recently, but if she still has her old way of thinking, this wedding is a big surprise."
"Being a demigod’s daughter is quite a headache. Furthermore, her beauty is exaggerated to the point it’s even more of a headache." Catherine added, "She once told us that from her childhood, all the men around her just circled her like flies. Their intentions were pretty obvious. Some were after her demigod father. Even though the mayors of Neutral Land cities don’t have much real power, having a demigod as a backing is something they dream of. Thus, they desperately try to win Freya’s heart. Others are attracted to her looks; they’re just simply drawn to her beauty."
"Growing up under such conditions made her resentful of the men who pursued her. She’s not exactly disgusted with men, but is always on her guard against men who actively approach her. Oh, right. Your guess was spot on, it’s just like you." Lina continued, "Also, this fellow usually...oh, how should I put this. She always gives off a very strange feeling. So, we were surprised, wondering what kind of man not only could accept her, but also be accepted by her?"
"Didn’t the news specify?" Pannis asked, "Now that the news is out, they must’ve written clearly who the male side is, right? Is there any problem that requires concealing who the male side is?"
"You’re underestimating the Holy City’s news agencies." Catherine shook her head at Pannis, "So much information, and they don’t even know the facts themselves; they dare to print it all in the newspaper. That’s why I never read the Holy City newspapers, only Lina bothers with that thing."
"Isn’t it fake news?" Hearing Catherine’s explanation, Pannis couldn’t help but ask, "I feel like based on your statement, it must be fake."
"That’s unlikely." Catherine said, "If it’s unclear in contents, you can say they lack ability. But if the news itself is fake, that’s spreading rumors, which are two completely different matters."
"You guys are so boring." Michelle, who had been sitting and listening to the adults arguing about trivial matters, couldn’t sit still anymore and protested, "We don’t understand anything at all."
"Oh, I’m sorry, I’m sorry." Catherine quickly apologized, "Let’s not talk about these trifles, let’s discuss Michelle and Miss Ansha performing on stage at the New Year’s celebration instead."
"Ya, Sister Catherine, you guys know?" Michelle exclaimed in surprise, "We were going to tell you on New Year’s and give you a surprise."
