Chapter 1522: Chapter 308: Bold Guess

"You may continue, Kyle," Denia’s gaze returned to Pannis, speaking with a hint of admiration, "from your description, I think your guess is not wrong. Danacus indeed maintains some level of lucidity. Some of us had interacted with him many times before and knew him well. Although he was not a primordial deity, his strength was formidable. Moreover, what’s most displeasing is his overly complex thinking; no one could fathom his mind. Therefore, if the opponent is him, no amount of caution is excessive. Such an enemy wouldn’t likely be mentally impaired as you suggested; rather, he definitely aims to gain much more, which is consistent with his character."

"Yes, I think so too," Pannis, who had adapted early to Denia’s identity, said normally as he had just been intimate with an agent of the theocracy and now was merely talking, reverting to his usual demeanor. "Based on these several doubts, I believe he has always maintained partial consciousness, and his interference with me was deliberate, not uncontrollable. Otherwise, it couldn’t have been so perfectly timed to affect without my noticing yet still effective. Once I realized this, I could confirm that his actions must have been motivated; otherwise, the only explanation left would be insanity, and thus, I need to figure out what exactly he is plotting."

"This time, after thousands of years of peace, he again attempted to provoke a war, declaring war against all deities, which indeed surprised us," Flare said with a gesture, pausing before continuing, "This suggests that whatever his schemes are, the outcome will be dangerous."

"Hmm?" Pannis paused, asking in return, "It seems I guessed right; you all seem to know his ultimate goal. I thought it was just a bold guess that happened to be correct."

"What goal?" Catherine whispered to Pannis, "Isn’t it just resurrection?"

"I’ll tell you another time," Pannis shook his head slightly, "It’s complicated to explain."

"Don’t treat us like fools, Kyle. Although this time we could indeed be deceived like everyone else, there’s still a difference compared to being fools," Denia, wearing Lina’s appearance, rolled her eyes with dissatisfaction, saying, "The world we deities understand is not entirely the same as the world you see; hence, we think far more than you. Just like when Danacus first provoked a war and released a horde of undead, we already understood his ambition. There could be no other reason for him to become enemies with all the deities of the world, aside from aiming for the entire world."

"Cough, cough, let’s not talk about irrelevant things," Pannis coughed abruptly, avoiding Denia’s criticism with a forced laugh, "So, what is he exactly planning? In that moment, I thought of many possible reasons, but none made sense. Now it seems everyone would agree that once he truly revives, things will progress in the most troublesome direction, right? Uh, looks like no one objects. If so, here’s the issue: his primary task is to awaken from his slumber as soon as possible, for once he revives, all issues targeting him vanish. He won’t need to worry about what Nellie would do, because as Lady Denia just illustrated, regaining control after his awakening is a matter of a moment. He also won’t need to care about his followers because even without them, he could slowly rebuild the church. He won’t even need to fear Nellie luring me here to kill him and herself, because if he was completely inert, his resurrection would be much faster. This thought, everyone agrees, right?"

"No objections," Flare listened in the void and nodded on behalf of his goddess, "It’s a reasonable deduction."

"So, looking back now, the risks he encountered could all boil down to one thing: he hasn’t fully slept, hence delaying his revival," Pannis clapped loudly, exclaiming, "That means, all the troubles are of his own making, like an idiot, he’s dug countless pits for himself and jumped into them one by one."

"As for your description, I really don’t want to comment," Denia smiled tolerantly and sighed lightly, "But, I think I understand your guess."

"The Goddess says she somewhat understands too," Flare relayed, "You believe that the troubles he created for himself are all to fulfill his goal, even at the cost of prolonging his revival and facing higher risks. So, what do you think is the purpose hidden beneath these facades?"

"Life is born from the earth and will eventually return to the earth," Pannis imitated Lina’s gesture, drawing a square in front of his chest with his index finger, "Sometimes, the end is the beginning, and the beginning is also the end."

"If you wish to worship me, I suggest you learn how to properly draw a prayer symbol. Also, don’t mimic those children’s way of speaking. They speak like that because many things can’t be answered directly, but you don’t have such concerns," Denia sighed, exasperated, "Do you think, then, that his purpose actually loops back to the initial point?"

"Yes, that’s what I believe," Pannis asserted, "Stripping away all distractions, simplifying the complex, the current situation is, as long as he revives, he wins. Thus, reviving as soon as possible is his main goal, everything is in service to this goal. This means, the behaviors we think delay his awakening actually serve this fundamental purpose, or we can assume, without them, his revival would be severely delayed or even impossible. As for the reasons, let’s not consider them for now."

"Your thinking... I can’t say it’s wrong," Denia hesitated for a moment before uncertainly saying, "But... never mind, continue."

"So, the question becomes clear, we now need to consider why it is so," Pannis habitually touched his chin, frowning, "I was wondering if... during this process there might be something that could accelerate his revival, or perhaps something that decides whether he can revive at all?"
