Chapter 1355: Chapter 141 The Best Opportunity
"Let me think, let me think," Kenseth’s Soul Fire danced violently as he paced in circles, his skeletal and Ghost companions had never seen their leader this agitated. Fortunately, the Necromancer’s agitation was brief, and he soon regained his composure. Grinding his teeth, he said, "If what you say is true and you really have a close relationship with the Spirit World’s largest merchant, then trade between the two worlds can definitely proceed. However, we need to have further detailed discussions about the division of responsibilities and profit sharing, and that’s not all, there are many related matters to consider."
"Of course, such important cooperative matters can’t be hastily decided now," Catherine nodded, saying, "Both our side and the Spirit World need time to carefully consider and also to see how the situation develops. So, for now, we’re just confirming our intention to cooperate, and everyone will go back to their own affairs. When time permits and both sides have decided that they’re interested in cooperating, we can definitely arrange a place to discuss it more thoroughly. How about in the capital or at the headquarters of your caravan? Either location is fine."
"Let’s make it the capital then. We have our own house there, and the caravan’s staff is permanently stationed there as well. When you come to the capital, just ask for Kenseth’s caravan and you’ll find out," the Necromancer Kenseth thought for a moment, flashing his still terrifying smile, "I never expected a chance meeting with travelers from the Spirit World would bring me such a pleasant surprise."
"Really? You never thought?" Catherine’s smile carried the depth of nobility as she said with implication, "Being the owner of the largest caravan in the Realm of the Dead, Mr. Kenseth, I doubt you hadn’t considered it. Even if Freya hadn’t brought up the matter of commerce, I’m sure you would have found an opportunity to mention it."
"Hehehe, at least I didn’t expect the surprise to be this great," Kenseth, directly called out by Catherine, showed no signs of embarrassment, and laughed heartily, "As for you two ladies, I do apologize for underestimating you at first."
"Me? What do I have to do with it?" Freya, with lightning speed, stuffed the candy she’d been bringing to her mouth back into her pocket, showing an innocent and bewildered expression, "I was just so annoyed, I simply helped out a certain dunce by asking."
"Oh, hehe, perhaps," Catherine and Kenseth both laughed meaningfully, not pressing whether what Freya said was true or false, and nodded to each other, "Then let’s tentatively agree on this, and we can discuss everything in detail the next time we meet."
"Very good, now I really must wish you all a safe journey," knowing it was time to part, Kenseth placed a hand over his chest and bowed respectfully, "I hope everything goes smoothly for you and that you can accomplish your goals soon. I also hope that our esteemed guest can meet with your leader soon, fulfilling your leader’s expectations."
"Let’s hope you’ll still feel that way when the time comes," Pannis shrugged and waved lazily to say goodbye, "Anyway, thanks for the hospitality these last two days. If there’s another opportunity in the future, we’ll show our gratitude with actions."
"Just a moment," hearing Pannis preparing to leave, Kenseth called out with his hoarse voice, taking a vine bag woven from an unknown fine creeper from a skeleton’s hand, he opened it with a full smile, "These are some trinkets our caravan has collected through trading, which wouldn’t fetch much in exchange, and we’ve no use for them ourselves, so I thought, why not give them to you as souvenirs from your visit to our world. Take this, for instance, the Bone Flute. The fool who made it spent years crafting it according to habits from his past life, only to find that it’s useless in this world—none of us can breathe, so not a single person can play it. And this one, I’ve forgotten who pieced it together, a model of a Bone Dragon, it has no use other than being intricate."
"But it is indeed exquisite," Catherine said as she took the small bone dragon into her hands, admiringly. "Although I’ve never seen a bone dragon, I have seen a living dragon, and this one feels just like the real thing. Mr. Kenseth, it won’t start moving on its own, will it?"
"Hahaha, of course not," the knight girl’s polite compliment made the Necromancer very happy. After casually displaying a few gifts, he handed a vine bag to Pannis and stuffed a small pouch into Little Deer’s hand: "These are some agricultural products from various places, considered specialties, I suppose. I know that some beings can’t eat them, but these two definitely won’t have any problems. Eating them will bring only benefits; think of it as snacks for the children. Hehe, this world has far too few real children. Even among millions of Undead, you can hardly find a few, especially ones as adorable as these two. I hope they’ll come to visit often; they’re sure to be welcomed by all the Undead."
"Thank you very much," Catherine said considerately, accepting the gifts without any hesitation. Her attitude made Kenseth’s smile even more cheerful. Having secured the two vine bags, the knight girl waved her hand: "There’s not much time left. I won’t say farewell to everyone individually. I hope to have the chance to meet everyone here in the capital again. Goodbye."
Under the lead of Kenseth, the members of the caravan lined up together, waving farewell to the eight departing figures until they were out of sight. Only then did Necromancer Kenser vigorously clap his hands and, together with the other Undead, start preparing the campsite for the night.
"So there are such interesting merchants among the Undead," Catherine said in a low voice once they were far enough away. "As expected of the largest caravan in the Realm of the Dead, they know how to conduct business just like the living."
"Indeed," Pannis sighed. "The gifts had clearly been prepared in advance, which shows that even without the matter of cooperation, he intended to foster a relationship with us to lay the groundwork for possibly using us to contact the Spirit World in the future. Quite a smart investment."
"However, the development in the World of the Dead is truly too rapid," Catherine added with a sigh. "Given a few more years, I guess detailed job specialization and different social classes will emerge, and then the Undead society will become very similar to that of the living. Lady Nellie really made the best arrangements for these Undead, as long as there is no war between the two sides, they can achieve coexistence with the human world very quickly."
"But is this really okay, big sister?" Lina asked worriedly. "Even if war is prevented, deep-seated aversions will still exist, at least on the side of the living."
"Silly Lina," Freya said, patting the priest girl’s head covered in short hair. "Commercial cooperation is the fastest way to bring two powers closer together. That’s why this is the perfect opportunity."
"Exactly, Lady Nellie is working so hard, of course, I have to support her efforts. And more importantly..." the knight girl bit her lip, her suppressed emotions finally bursting forth as she clenched her fist and exclaimed excitedly in a low growl: "As the intermediary for the earliest commercial exchanges between the two worlds, this is so profitable. Countless gold coins are beckoning us, how can we possibly pass up such an opportunity?"
