Chapter 1347: Chapter 133: Burial Bones Mountain

Bewildered. That was the only feeling in the hearts of all creatures present. Even though entering the Realm of the Dead had already overturned many old beliefs, the shock of Mr. Ghost’s statement surpassed all previous surprises combined.

The Undead had no consciousness of their own, only acting on instinct, a fact unchanged for tens of millions of years and considered absolute truth by all beings. Even though some of the Undead had started to develop their own wills, the six members of the adventure team had not thought that this most basic rule would change. But despite encountering Annie and Little Deer, they also met a vast number of mindless Undead, whether in the ruins of Briana City, at the ancestral soul resting places of the Beastman on a Sacred Mountain, or in the long-abandoned sewers under the City of Innocence. The Undead had not changed their inherent nature, remaining bloodthirsty and unconscious as everyone understood. However, Mr. Ghost now claimed that in the Realm of the Dead, will-less Undead could not move freely, a contradiction to everything seen before, making it difficult to accept.

"Divine Barrier." Pannis suddenly said in a deep voice, "It’s very likely that the Divine Barrier caused this difference."

"Hmm, makes sense." Lina, as a member of the Clergy, had a deep understanding of deities. Upon hearing Pannis’s speculation, she nodded slowly, "The presence of the Divine Barrier severely weakens the influence of divine will on the Yarran World, much like how there are so many willful Undead here but in the Yarran World, we only met Annie, Little Deer, and those six Skeletons. It seems that common Undead here can’t move without their own will, while in the Yarran World, because of the weakening of the Divine Barrier, the divine will’s influence is diminished, so some Undead still move according to the old rules."

"I think if we go back to the Yarran World now and visit the city of Briana and the ancestral tombs of the Beastman, we’re bound to have some surprises," Pannis said with a smile, gazing down at the landscape that had changed from a century ago, "That’s why I had to come here."

"Sigh, you’re right," Catherine sighed deeply. "I fully understand now why you insisted on confronting that person. What that great one achieved is just too important, and we must preserve it. If we can’t take down that person, it wouldn’t do justice to the many years of loneliness and effort that great one endured."

"You finally understand," Pannis’s eyes brightened, and he asked expectantly, "So?"

"So we need to wait here longer. Such an important matter, of course, must be attended to personally." Catherine hummed softly, "What are you really anticipating?"

"Tsk." Pannis grimaced, clearly annoyed, and ignoring the giggling girls, he loudly called out, "Mr. Ghost, that’s your village down there, right?"

"Exactly, very peaceful, isn’t it?" Mr. Ghost said proudly, "Every house here was built by us, the inhabitants. See that one furthest to the east? That’s my home, built with my own hands."

"With your own hands? Building houses, you could totally manipulate other, um, other bodies to do that," Pannis probed, "Why didn’t you do that?"

"We ghosts and those skeletons are not the same, manipulating other bodies is much more troublesome for us than for skeletons," Mr. Ghost complained. "Skeletons just go to Burial Bones Mountain, awaken whichever they can control, and summon a few Skeletons. But for us, whether ghosts can awaken other bodies at Burial Bones Mountain is purely a matter of luck. It wasn’t until the year before last that I managed to awaken my first ghost body. But I don’t mind, really. We ghosts are not the most miserable, those Necromancers and Bone Dragons are pitiful, they hardly have a chance to awaken other bodies. They have to do everything themselves, hahaha."

"Hmm, the stronger the type of Undead, the harder it is to awaken them, it makes sense," Pannis nodded to the girls covertly, then pointed towards the distance, "Is that Burial Bones Mountain over there?"

What Pannis pointed at was a high mountain made entirely of white bones at the border of the desert under the dunes, impossible to determine how much of its height was buried underneath, but estimating the part protruding above the ground alone, it was two to three hundred meters high. Countless white bones amassed, and from afar, it radiated an overwhelming power of death. Most surprisingly, Burial Bones Mountain was not singular; at least near this village, there were three similar mountains of white bones.

"Yes, that’s Burial Bones Mountain," Mr. Ghost responded. "I awoke rather late, so I didn’t experience that period but, supposedly, a long time ago, there were no Burial Bones Mountains. All skeletons were scattered across this world. Later, under the guidance of the master’s Oracle, all Undead worldwide began to clear and gather scattered bones, which made everyone’s lives easier, and the gathered bones helped promote the revival of other kin. By now, there are basically no scattered skeletons left in the world; they’re all concentrated at Burial Bones Mountain, although it’s said there are still a lot of bones buried deep underground that we just can’t dig out."

"Looking all together, there are really a lot of bones here," Freya remarked to Pannis, sighing, "Seeing so many bones brings back memories of those days you..."

"That’s not really a lot." Mr. Ghost, not catching the unfinished part of Freya’s statement, naturally said, "We’re a small village with only four Burial Bones Mountains. Oh, and there’s one not visible from this angle. Many larger villages have seven or eight surrounding them. The most is the capital, with twenty-three Burial Bones Mountains distributed around the city. It looks quite magnificent."

"This scale still counts as a small village?" Pannis shook his head and sighed, "Do you mind giving us a tour of your village? It’s our first time here, and we’re quite interested."

"Hahaha, how could I mind?" Mr. Ghost laughed heartily. "Since you’ve come here, we definitely have to show you around the village. Not just a tour, I reckon the village chief will throw a grand welcome banquet for you when you meet him. It’s been a long time since our village had such excitement."

"A banquet, huh?" the six creatures looked at each other and finally nodded, "Then we thank you in advance."
