Chapter 1253: Chapter 39: Gathering of Important Figures

Mierlays had lied; Vivian had not escaped. The girl was sitting in an office within the Tower of Alchemy, accompanied naturally by Pannis, whose head faintly emitted a burnt scent. Before the girl was a long table, across which sat eight mages scattered in disarray. On the table were six small boxes, neatly packed with bottles of blue potions, the labels on the bottles clearly indicating the names of the potions. Outside the boxes, several opened crystal bottles were scattered; some were empty, and some still contained some liquid, a slightly pungent odor emanating from them, making the office smell more like a laboratory for mages. Indeed, except for the peculiar presence of Pannis, everyone else in the room was a special creature who usually soaked themselves in laboratories and refused to leave. To them, such an unusual smell was as comfortable as being at home, at least that’s how it appeared from their demeanor.

If other internal members of the Mage Guild had seen the situation in the room, they would have immediately been swallowed by surprise. It was hard for them to imagine what could gather eight mages in an office together. In their minds, even if the Yarran World were to be destroyed tomorrow, these eight individuals might not have the time or energy to sit together in an office, especially without showing any signs of impatience. Each of them was fully engrossed in the documents they were reading, occasionally shaking a crystal bottle to observe the changes in the liquid inside.

These eight mages were not ordinary; it was no exaggeration to say that their gathering symbolized the assembly of the entire magical domain of the Yarran World. Even more, their very existence symbolized the magical domain of the Yarran World; any one of them could represent a School of magic without any dispute.

As the seating was quite scattered, there was no particular order to the arrangement of the eight mages; they just chose their seats casually based on the order of their arrival. The one who sat at the head was a middle-aged female mage in a water-blue robe. This plump woman looked like the most ordinary aunt next door, but the name Emily represented the School of Crystal Energy in the Mage Guild, as well as the Crystal Energy Tower. Members of the School of Crystal Energy often served as energy providers and collaborated with other schools, making them the most popular and sociable group.

Next to her, in a black robe emitting an aloof aura, sat an elderly male named Macwhite, who had controlled the Tower of Destruction for over fifty years and represented the Elements School of the Mage Guild. The Tower of Destruction, being a purely offensive tower among the Seven-star Magic Towers, had a master who was as ferocious, intense, and oppressive as the tower itself, intimidating anyone from even glancing at him for too long.

The person beside Macwhite was wrapped tightly in a white robe, exposing not a centimeter of skin apart from his face. This wrapped individual was named Cyp; despite nearing sixty years, Cyp had a baby-face, which, combined with the wrapped appearance, looked quite comical. However, no one could laugh if his skin wrapped inside was revealed during excessive movements. Cyp ruled the Tower of Magic Patterns and was the master of the School of Arrays. This elderly man, obsessed with studying arrays, had his skin covered in magical arrays, which provided him with immense power. If a real battle broke out, Cyp, although only of Legendary Rank, could unleash destructive force exceeding many Demigod-level fighters. Some friends even joked that he should join the Colossus School, as both his appearance, full of arrays, and his way of using power greatly resembled a war colossus.

Next to Macwhite, the fourth person was the friend who had teased him and also the only one among the eight mages who was not wearing a robe. Leonard was dressed in greasy overalls and reeked of pungent motor oil; he hardly looked like a mage at all. Yet, despite his unassuming appearance, this mechanic from the Mountain Country had taken over control of the Tower of Colossus nearly forty years ago from the retired goblin master, Christo. He had been leading the School of Magical Mechanics and achieving one success after another.

Sitting in the fifth position was an old man who appeared to be the oldest in the office. He wore a dun-colored robe, and his white eyebrows and beard hung down like those of a goat. Although he seemed too frail to even stroke his beard, as if he might collapse at any moment, the Tower of Alchemy’s master, named Hogg, possessed an abundance of energy. His movements during experiments were more stable and precise than those of many mages in their twenties or thirties. Hogg had just presided over a council meeting and had brought Vivian and Pannis to this office. Upon entering the room, despite her mental preparation, Vivian was startled by the people inside. It is noteworthy that in his youth, Hogg had once encountered the Light and Dark Twins and the scorpion-tailed lion, Dillie, who had come to visit Christo. Upon hearing his name, Dillie had burst into hysterical laughter and cautioned him to be careful with his hands, but to this day, no one knew what was amiss in the scorpion-tailed lion’s mind to provoke such foolish behavior.

The sixth position was naturally occupied by the mage Maran, who represented the School of Change and Illusion and controlled the Tower of Obscurity. Even within the Guild, this mage was shrouded in mystery, seldom seen by others and with very few knowing her true identity. It was also Vivian’s first encounter with her today, and her first realization that the master of the Tower of Obscurity was a member of the Sea Race. Behind the misty water barrier, the female mage gave off a similarly obscure aura, seeming almost like a body of water, with movements so light and airy that it was hard to discern her original race. Vivian could not identify it until Pannis took her hand and wrote the word "jellyfish" in her palm, at which she showed a look of sudden understanding.

Undoubtedly, the masters of six of the seven towers in the Seven-star Magic Towers had assembled, and naturally, the master of the highest Starshine Tower, the Guild’s president, Antuin, could not be missing. The old elf did not leaf through documents like the others but sat with his eyes closed, leaning back in his chair to rest. From the slight upturn of his lips and the occasional glances he cast between Vivian and Pannis, it was clear he was in a very jolly mood, so much so that it made Pannis want to pull him into a duel once again.

If Antuin had been the only one present, Pannis might have acted on that impulse, but he managed to restrain himself, not only because of the other six tower masters but also because of the eighth mage in the room. This eighth mage’s body radiated fluctuating elemental waves and emitted an intense heat. Yet, his face was always amiable and beaming with a smile; however, seeing this person made Vivian instinctively wary. Back in the Kingdom of Mages, the girl had seen his other side—a somber face belonging to a power leader.

He was the current speaker of the Kingdom of Mages, the demigod mage, Warrensen.
