Chapter 1127: Chapter 240 Another Person is Her

"They lurked here for thirty seconds," Ava’s eyes focused on an empty space, her gaze seemingly vacant yet perceiving something others couldn’t see. The girl maintained this dazed state for a full three minutes, silent and unurged, as everyone understood that she wasn’t simply daydreaming like Vivian would; she was likely selecting a suitable image from among thousands of dynamic perspectives to reconstruct for everyone. They patiently waited until suddenly, the girl leaped into the air, contorting into a peculiar position and shot forward, hugging the ground as she vaulted the four or five meter-wide trench to land inside the opposite camp: "The first, slightly larger skeleton charged into the camp from this angle. It was only after it had covered one third of the distance that the Night Watcher spotted it."

"From this angle ..." Pannis blinked to Ava’s side, pacing in place as he said, "Its target must be this tent here, no, that’s not right, its angle is off. If it ... if he wanted to attack this tent, he would step to the left, and the angle would be slightly skewed, otherwise the impact would be much less. But, hmm, I see now, its true target isn’t this tent at all, no, it didn’t have a target. The real attacker was another skeleton."

"The second skeleton’s position was here, right? After the larger skeleton leaped out, it must have been lurking here," Pannis even employed the power of his domain, shuttling back and forth on both sides of the trench: "Starting from this position and tracing a small arc on the left, the target is the person who walked out of this tent, no, the tent itself."

"You can see it too?" Ava’s expressionless face unexpectedly showed surprise as she looked at Pannis in bewilderment: "No, you can’t possibly see it, but how could you know so clearly? Logically, forty years have passed, and nearly all traces at the scene have been erased. Perhaps the tent’s location could be inferred from the remnants, but it’s impossible to deduce the events that took place so precisely."

Pannis didn’t answer Ava’s query. With his hands clasped behind his back, his eyes half open, he continued to walk within the range of the trench. His expression was as undisturbed as a still pond, betraying no hint of his inner thoughts. Yet the girls who knew him well sensed an undercurrent of tension. They read extreme panic emanating from Pannis; the last time he displayed such a state was outside the Temple of Danacus on the Beastmen Prairie, where he nearly collapsed from the stress. And now, he was displaying a similar demeanor. Although the girls didn’t know the precise reason, having spent so much time together, they could vaguely guess some of it. Nonetheless, from their standpoint, it was difficult to offer words of comfort, and they could only watch as his expression grew ever more placid, each step in the earth leaving a deep footprint.

"Ava," Pannis suddenly paused and said solemnly, "at this location, one of the two clients must have been severely injured, right?"

"One of the clients was almost harmed," Ava, sensing the strange atmosphere too, even her typically mechanical response came out in a hushed tone, "but just as the Undead’s attack was about to succeed, someone shielded the client from the assault. Analysis suggests that the one who blocked the attack was the former president of the Adventurer’s Guild."

"True to the reputation of an experienced expert from the Adventurer’s Guild," Pannis let out a heavy sigh, full of regret: "He fooled everyone’s eyes, but he couldn’t deceive him. He detected the intent of the attack, so achieving their goal wouldn’t be easy anymore."

Pannis resumed his pacing, but after the brief exchange, he seemed to have calmed down a bit, at least no longer leaving deep footprints with every step. After several circuits, he came to a stop and faced west: "After the attack by the small skeleton was blocked, it must have launched a fierce attack in this direction, right? Who all were in this direction?"

"Four members of the expedition team," Ava paused for several seconds before providing a specific answer: "All four are of Legendary Rank, and indeed faced a crisis under its fierce assault, at risk of severe injury or even death at any moment. They were lucky, though; the enemy didn’t focus the attack on just one of them. Otherwise, they would’ve suffered casualties before ... Old Field arrived to help."

"So support did come?" Pannis nodded, glancing at Catherine as he spoke: "It seems your grandfather’s combat experience is vast, not fitting the typical mage profile I associate with academia."

"Hm? Is that considered vast experience?" Catherine, sensing Pannis’ mood gradually stabilize, felt a bit more at ease but still asked in confusion: "Didn’t the enemy’s assault force him to leave his position?"

"Not really," Pannis shook his head, moving sideways to alter his position and orientation: "He was supposed to be fighting the slightly larger skeleton that appeared first nearby. Now, turning to rescue his teammates, although still engaged with his original opponent from a distance, the intensity of the confrontation has diminished a lot. Consequently, the first skeleton suddenly burst into action after a few seconds, moving quickly past six Legendary Rank and one Demigod Mage, targeting this place, where the Guild President was protecting a client."

"So the final target was still that client?" As Pannis enacted the simulation, Lina seemed to visualize the scene unfold before her eyes: "But with the former president guarding there, breaking through wouldn’t be easy."

"Yes," Pannis moved his position again, speaking as if he had witnessed it firsthand, "the former president collided with the large skeleton and got completely tangled up with it. The small skeleton disappeared from the battlefield at the moment of collision and reappeared behind another client."

"Ah, was that their actual target?" Lina exclaimed with her hand over her mouth, her eyes wide with shock. "The speed of that small skeleton is so fast. According to you, a person unprepared would probably be thrown off immediately."

"Unfortunately, they still didn’t shake them off," Pannis sighed deeply again, conflicted, "Catherine, your grandfather’s combat experience must be very rich. He should have been prepared, using the Dimensional Door right away to place himself between the Undead and the second client, preventing a second attack. Sigh, why be so diligent? If there had been any slip-up, none of what happened afterward would have occurred."

"Could our speculation on the day we encountered the Thunder Element actually be true?" Catherine asked blankly. "Did these Undead truly launch their attack on the Thunder Element and my grandfather’s party in order to protect this world and its innocent creatures?"

"If my deduction of the entire battle is not mistaken, then that’s the only possibility," said Pannis, his gaze fixed. "Actually, I hope my deduction is wrong."

"Almost without error," Ava nodded, her expression unreadable as she drew everyone’s attention, "I just reviewed the images retained by the surrounding space. I can confirm that there were no other people within all of the Spatial Fragments around the camp. But indeed, it is as if you experienced it yourself, which is unexplainable and illogical."

"Heh, I’ve said before, I wish I didn’t know," Pannis bitterly smiled, looking worse than if he were crying, but he continued nonetheless, "After the small skeleton’s two attempted attacks were successively blocked, it left the battlefield first. Once the large skeleton had gotten rid of its pursuer, it also swiftly exited the attack range and quickly disappeared into the darkness using the properties of the Shattered Space. From the true start of the struggle to when both attackers left, the entire process lasted only ten to fifteen seconds, no more than fifteen, right, Ava?"

"Twelve point seven seconds," Ava replied mechanically, and despite her inclination to not get angry over Pannis avoiding her question, her voice seemed to harbor a hidden rage. "The attack process was very quick. It took only forty seconds from the Night Watcher’s warning to the end of the fight."

"This battle, it gives me an oddly familiar sense of déjà vu," Dillie mused, flicking her tail unconsciously, "The division of labor, the coordination, and the tacit understanding of improvisation, why does it feel increasingly familiar?"

"Of course, it would feel familiar to you," Pannis stated, with a stern face. "Because that is my combat style, every step of it. I indeed didn’t experience this battle firsthand, nor was I guessing the actions of those two Undead. I simply planned the attack based on my past habits and the camp’s layout, deciding the next move according to their countermeasures for each step. In other words, what I would do, the Undead did."

"No wonder, I was thinking why it felt so familiar," Dillie’s eyes lit up as she resolved her confusion, speaking happily, "Yes, that matches our old habit of coordination. Um, judging from this battle, the small skeleton would be you, the large skeleton would be..."

Halfway through her sentence, Dillie abruptly stopped, stealing glances at Pannis’s expression. On realizing he was expressionless, she bit her lip after a long silence before continuing, "The large skeleton would be... Nellie?"

"Considering the behavior of the two skeletons aligns perfectly with my tactical style, only two people could do that," Pannis looked up at the bright blue sky, softly stating, "One is me, and the other would be her."
