Chapter 1107: Chapter 220 Chaos

"This is neither scientific nor magical," Dillie muttered at the lowest volume, "Two things stuck together, yet their conditions seem centuries apart, as if time itself is in disarray. Kyle, could someone have deliberately placed a new chest inside an old leather bag? No, that doesn’t make sense either; they couldn’t have put it in this compartment."

"What did you just say?" Pannis suddenly looked perturbed, turning to inquire, "Say that again."

"Huh?" Dillie, confused, responded, "Me? I said it’s neither scientific nor magical. Don’t ask me to define science; it’s too hard to explain to you. I was just saying it doesn’t make sense."

"Not that part, never mind," Pannis waved a dismissive hand, already having made up his mind and no longer lingering on what Dillie had said. He stared at the chest and said, "Step back further; I’ll pry the chest open. It looks trap-free from the outside."

"And there are no magic traps either," Vivian’s fingers traced the surface of the chest, confidently stating, "That doesn’t rule out the possibility that a magic trap is too well hidden for me to detect, but that’s very unlikely."

"No worries, if I’m not mistaken, there shouldn’t be any traps inside the chest," Pannis announced as he tapped on the surface of the chest, "But just to be safe, everyone should activate their Shields. Be ready; I’m opening it now."

The lid of the chest was secured with just a few nails—an negligible obstacle for a Demigod’s strength. With just a slight exertion of Pannis’s fingers, the chest emitted a series of creaks, and with a snap, the lid popped open, releasing a dense white fog that enveloped Pannis.

"Be careful." Catherine immediately approached the edge of the fog, her Falcon Shield thrusting into the mist attempting to push Pannis out, but the sound of metal striking metal echoed as Pannis blocked her shield with his Magicsteel Shield, his calm voice following, "Stay calm, stay calm, it’s not poisonous gas, just take a closer look."

Indeed, Catherine quickly realized that it was merely a natural ice dance formed by something cold exposed suddenly to a hot environment. The knight girl’s lips twitched, and with a glance backward, she noticed that several girls were looking at her with subtly amused expressions, smiles as elusive as their gazes.

"Cough, cough," the knight girl coughed dryly, her face flushing with heat, attempting to maintain composure, "That said... um, actually I... Oh, that’s not right, why would there be cold air coming out? Are there ice cubes? What a joke, how could ice cubes from hundreds of years ago still be inside a chest that hasn’t been in the Perpetual Icefield?"

"Yet, it appears to be possible," Pannis said, his tone odd, deeply sighing, "Vivian, come and collect it, this is a gift specifically meant for us."

"A gift? For us?" Even Vivian felt bewildered, momentarily forgetting to tease her older sister, she asked incredulously, "A cave that no one has entered for decades, containing an item from centuries ago, and you say it’s a gift meant for us who weren’t even born back then?"

"Yes," Pannis grimaced with a forced smile, shifting the chest in front of the mage girl, and pointing inside, "Regardless, let’s collect these first; your facility can store them at low temperatures."

"Are these... potions?" Vivian bent down and noticed fifty neatly arranged bottles in the chest; just from the looks, they all seemed to be of the same type and very familiar-looking. She picked up a bottle to inspect it in the light, and her expression turned to shock, her mouth agape as round as her wide-open eyes, she stuttered, "How can this be, aren’t these the same type of potions we drank before? Who would put them here? Could it be... could it be... could it be Master Fila?"

Pannis didn’t reply but simply sighed softly, smiling with a complex expression, he said to Dillie, "An old friend has sent us a gift, should we thank him?"

"It really is from Fila, huh? I sensed there was something eerie about the timing, and it might involve him," Dillie muttered, "I don’t feel like thanking him, the guy’s too quirky for me to bother with."

"Has Master Fila really passed away?" Catherine inquired, puzzled, "And since he had so many potions and wanted to provide them to us, why didn’t he just give them all at once? Why go through all this effort to hide them here? It doesn’t make much sense. I don’t quite understand what he was thinking."

"Who knows?" Dillie said, leaning on the chest muttering, "That guy’s mind isn’t like a normal person’s. I wouldn’t be surprised by any weird behavior from him; maybe he just wanted to see you puzzled, haha, not that it’s funny at all."

"There’s also a letter here." While sorting the potions, Vivian lifted a letter from the bottom of the chest and handed it to Pannis, "It looks like it’s from Master Fila for you, take a look."

Pannis accepted the envelope, the cool touch causing a slight stir in his expression. Unfolding the letter, he saw it was indeed in Fila’s distinct handwriting, unique as the man himself, hard for anyone to imitate.

"It’s been a long time, my friend, or perhaps I should say, we’ve just parted, and here we are in contact again. I told you there would be a surprise following soon, and here it is. I hope you like it."

"The potion that I gave you, along with those replicated by the Mage Guild, must be finished by now. It was originally intended just for you and that lion, but who would have thought you’d bring so many people with you."

"However, with the additional forty-eight potions I’ve prepared for you, it should just be enough to sustain you until you find the Temple of Danacus. As for how you’ll leave after everything is over, I know your plan is to escape during the brief vacuum period when the magical beasts haven’t re-entered the Forbidden Land as it returns to its original size after disrupting their plans. But that method is not foolproof, so I’ve prepared another surprise for you, which you’ll understand in time."

"Alright, Kyle, my friend, this is where we stop for now. We’ll meet again before long."

"Tsk, tsk, this guy is still the same, always speaking in ways others can’t understand," Dillie mocked: "But it seems he really isn’t dead, no, or perhaps this was something he left behind in advance. These Mages are capable of such things, to maintain a sense of mystery, they would do anything."

"I don’t think it was left behind in advance," Pannis said woodenly, shaking his head: "Did you really listen to this letter closely? If you had, you wouldn’t think so."

"I also don’t think it was prepared in advance." The knight girl felt dazed by Philarx’s letter, glancing around as she spoke: "This letter makes me feel as if Master Fila has always been beside us, very aware of every move we make, even seeming to understand the decisions we discuss at home."

"I have that feeling too." The constant sensation of being spied on made Freya break out in cold sweat; the princess wiped the sweat from her forehead, her voice dry: "If someone could predict with such accuracy years in advance, it would be terrifying. No, even if it was just sent over, it’s still terrifying—doesn’t that mean he has always been with us?"

"I’m certain it wasn’t left behind before our last battle," Pannis sighed: "Honestly, I can’t understand his state now."

"You’re so sure?" asked Dillie, puzzled: "Did the letter say something else?"

"Well, it’s not over yet," Pannis nodded: "But are you sure you want to keep listening?"

"Damn that Fila," Dillie suddenly realized, growling: "He must have spoken ill of me in the letter again."

"Also, send my regards to that lion, I don’t need his thanks, I find him just as strange. But anyway, it won’t be too long now. Offer my early congratulations to him; after so many years, he can finally fulfill his wish, well, perhaps it can be considered fulfilling his wish. As for what I mean, let him figure it out himself; he’ll understand it in time."

"What does he mean?" Dillie abruptly stood up, his mane bristling, growling: "Does he mean I’ve finally found the way home?"

"Didn’t he answer you? He told you to think about it yourself; I don’t know the answer either," Pannis said helplessly, shaking his head as he continued reading: "Also, tell them to stop looking; I don’t make a habit of spying on people, nor would I do it here. I just happened to see. And don’t try to figure out my current state; with your understanding, it’s beyond comprehension. Perhaps in the distant future, you might understand, but definitely not now."

The final message left Catherine and Freya stiff, causing an awkward exchange of glances, both visibly confused. Freya muttered, "He just happened to see? Big sister, is my Common so bad?"

"Don’t ask me; I don’t understand it either," Catherine also laughed wryly: "I thought you might have a clearer understanding than me."

"Actually, I think I understand a bit," Vivian glanced at Pannis’s expression—although there was almost no expression on his face, the Mage girl knew he probably understood as well, sighing as she spoke: "Take a closer look at the remnants of this damaged rock wall, they still bear the marks left by that expedition team years ago. It means this rock wall has been like this for at least forty years, and this box and leather bag, they were likely placed here hundreds of years ago when the wall was being built. What does that tell us?"

"Who knows," Pannis also sighed: "These kinds of things, who knows?"
