Yarra’s Adventure Notes
Chapter 1102 - 215: Who Is He?

Chapter 1102: Chapter 215: Who Is He?

"The story is over," Vivian said carefully as she closed the notebook and placed it into her waterproof bag. "We don’t even know his name, nor can we return the relics to his family. Oh, of course, according to what he wrote in his notes, he didn’t really have any family."

"It’s a bit of a pity," Catherine said with a complex gaze at the skull on the ground, sighing. "It would have been nice to know who he was, so we could do something for him."

"It’s not a pity at all, who would bother to write their name, gender, height, weight in their own diary? That would be stupid," Pannis said, patting Catherine on the shoulder. "Don’t think too much about it. His death was not your grandfather’s fault, and it has nothing to do with you at all. Think of him as a pioneer who fell on the adventure trail, haven’t we seen enough of those?"

"But after all, he had come with my grandfather," Catherine said with a bitter smile. "He trusted my grandfather and the former Guild president and risked his life to follow them deep into this place, only to fall without even seeing the goal. Thinking about it this way, I always feel a bit sorry for him."

"Then you have too many people to feel sorry for, you’ll probably spend the second half of your life living in guilt," Pannis scoffed. "Coming here was his own choice, no one forced him. He should take responsibility for his own decisions, you can’t blame anyone else. Moreover, being a Legendary Rank adventurer, he should have been very aware of the dangers here. How is that related to you?"

"I understand all that you’re saying, but it just feels a bit awkward in my heart," the knight said, embarrassedly scratching her head and giggling a few times. "Never mind, did you find anything else on his body?"

"Nothing much, just some rotted clothes and equipment pieces, considering it’s been decades," Pannis shook his head. "I didn’t find any special items that could prove his identity, but if we really wanted to check, it’s not impossible. From the body, it can be seen that this man was probably between thirty and thirty-five years old, male, 177 centimeters tall, slightly overweight, and most likely a Berserker Warrior, plus with his Legendary Rank strength. Once we get back to the City of Knowledge, you can check the Guild records and probably find out who he was."

"I don’t know who he was, but I have some recollection of that Veena," Dillie said, his keen sense of smell causing him to slightly distance himself from the skull. "A Legendary Rank, twenty-seven? Or maybe twenty-eight years old. I saw her once from a distance in the Lost Forest, but she was a ranger, not a priest. Oh, I should say a part-time priest, since there aren’t many full-time priests who can reach Legendary Rank. I haven’t heard any news about her all these years; it turns out the whole team died here together."

"Who Veena was isn’t important anymore, the problem now is that although we’ve found the expedition team’s trail, we haven’t found anything useful," Pannis said helplessly. "I’d rather he had encountered some misfortune after coming out; then his records might have shown what actually happened inside. Unfortunately, he died before entering, resulting in us not getting any of the information we needed."

"There’s nothing we can do, that’s the reality," Catherine said, seemingly having moved past her earlier feelings of guilt, standing straight. "This is already an unexpected finding; we didn’t plan to find any trace of my grandfather when we came here. Since that’s the case, we’ll just continue to search with our efforts. Besides, since we’ve discovered one trace they left behind, it’s possible we could find a second, a third. As long as their traces haven’t been washed away by time, we still have a chance."

"That’s probably difficult," Pannis countered, shaking his head. "Considering the climate of the Forest of Death, ordinary traces would be destroyed in a few years, at most a decade, by the rain and humidity, unless..."

"Unless what?" Catherine noticed a slight change in Pannis’s expression as if he had thought of something, and immediately pressed, "You must have thought of a possible exception."

"Yes, indeed there is an exception, the season they entered was just the rainy season," Pannis, stroking his beard thoughtfully, said, "It’s not easy to advance in the Forest of Death during the rainy season, even with the cover of the Forbidden Land of Living Souls. Hehe, perhaps we can still find some other traces they left behind, but certainly not here. What we need to do now is to quickly leave the wandering woods, and make the most of the medication before its effects wear off, walking a good distance. We have over thirty bottles of the potion, if distributed evenly, each person can get up to four bottles, and each bottle only lasts for two hours, which means, we have to reach the Lake of Termination within eight hours, otherwise, we can only carefully hide from the possible Twisted Souls."

"It seems we’re quite pressed for time," Catherine frowned, "Fortunately, the ground conditions here in this wandering woodland aren’t as complicated as outside, so we should be able to move faster than before."

"But do we leave now?" Lina pointed at the skull on the ground and asked, "What about him? Won’t you re-bury him? It feels rather sad to just leave him here like this."

"Just take it with us," Pannis said, "I’ve already reburied his torso to restore it to how it was before, as for his skull, we’ll take it with us and once back in the Holy City, bury it in the cemetery, giving him a return to his homeland."

"Thank you," Catherine’s eyes carried a gentle warmth as she flashed Pannis a radiant smile. The knight girl suddenly realized that Pannis had guessed she would feel guilty the moment he saw that notebook, knew that the man was a member of an expedition from years ago, and had already prepared a solution. The girl finally understood the weight of Kyle’s words that he would never let his friends down.

"Thank me?" Pannis scratched his face in confusion and asked, "What good have I done now? Do tell me, so I can bask in it too."

"No, it’s nothing," Catherine, unresponsive to Pannis’s feigned ignorance, took the skull he was holding in his hands and said softly, "I’ll carry his remains. You picked him up without gloves just now, go wash your hands."

"Something’s fishy, very fishy," Pannis cautiously observed Catherine’s expression and muttered, "Why suddenly so gentle? There must be a scheme, no way I’m falling for it."

"Ahem." Catherine coughed dryly, her fingers resting on the hilt of her knight sword, looked at Pannis with a smirk, and Pannis darted out like an arrow, "I’m going to wash my hands right now!!!"
