World After Worlds -
Chapter 343 - 343: § TERRIFIED §
Different from Kraig bursting with emotion earlier. On the dismissal of their last class, he was dismayed. His agitated and excited behavior dissipated. He was staring at the floor while he was walking at a slow pace in the hallway with Yanarym. They were heading to the laboratory to take her books that were left behind earlier. Today was busy, she did not have time to read the books because they had to make a written report regarding the potion they passed. In addition, he forgot to do the assignments that were due on this day, since he was clueless about what to do and how to do the assignments, she was the one who did his assignment and also wrote the report. This was not the first time for them, she would often do things for him and one of those was inclined in his academics.
"I think we should just leave it be." She said but he kept on striding his feet. He did not want to yet he complied.
He forgot that he had an appointment today. He wanted to take Yanarym on a date and was thinking of an excuse to buy a new communicator. When he was about to ask her out, he remembered his engagement. He was dejected after realizing that and he cannot even complain because it was his doing. He missed her today but he had to leave.
"I'll send you home," he said before they could pass by the gate. Yanarym turned to him and gently shook her head.
"Marcus will be fetching me, you don't need to." She uttered softly as if she knew that he had other plans and was busy enough to give her some of his time.
Hearing Marcus' name from her, Kraig did not hide the wroth expression to her. Marcus, Marcus, Marcus… whenever he was not available it was Marcus who was with her. Also, there were no other names that could be mentioned by her pretty mouth but Marcus.
He can't even get mad because it would be so inconsiderate. She had been understanding his circumstances and was adjusting to his schedule. The situation they were in was his doing and he could not discriminate against her when it was his fault.
"I have time—" to send you home.
"Rym," before Kraig could say his words, Marcus appeared in front of them. Yanarym smiled at him and turned to Kraig.
"See you tomorrow," she kissed his cheek and Marcus went to her. In a snap, Kraig saw her back walking away with Marcus. This was their routine, of course, this happened every day except on weekends when there were no classes. However, on that weekend for the past months, it was not spent on him but Marcus.
"She devotes more of her time to him than she does to me." His bitter remark was swallowed because it was him giving her reason to be with someone else.
Kraig's feet were rooted on the surface, he was indecisive about whether to run after her or to go to where he should be. He stood there… until she was out of sight, seeing that she was not there anymore. He lowered his eyes which were filled with complex emotion.
Before she was the one who would wait for him to leave and would be always reluctant to part with him. A sullen smile curled on Kraig's lips, before and after were very different… she left without looking back after goodbye…
He looked at his hand that was empty, whenever it was occupied by her, it was warm. Now he was cold, it was funny because it was summer and he could feel the chills on his nerves. He wondered how could that girl be so in love with him when they were together and be so indifferent now that they were parting from each other.
MATTEO fixed the books on her study table in her room. She went straight to her bed and sat there before falling on her back. "Are you going to sleep?" He walked to her and looked at her feet which were entangled with her sandals. He kneeled and unknotted the strings for her and when it was done she rolled on the bed not even responding to his question.
He straightened his back and sat on the bed.
"Rym."
"I'm tired." She mumbled with her back facing him. Matteo stared at her for a while and made her face him. He pulled her arm to roll in his direction. His biceps were trapping her head, while he was looking down on her. Flat laying on the bed, her hair scattered on her face. Her clear eyes were staring straight back at him, she blinked a few times. Matteo combed her hair and leaned to kiss her eyes.
She flexibly closed them. Matteo did not ponder her with kisses and was content with that. He was about to stand up and leave her alone when he heard her sigh. "Kraig asked me to have a long week vacation out of town. It could last for seven to ten days."
He gave the distance to their faces and she did not open her eyes. Matteo did not say anything and continued staring at her relaxed expression. She was not asking for his permission to go. Naturally, that meant she would leave without his approval.
He was quite used to this. She would often stay with those humans other than him. He could not object.
"Alright." He said, his tone was soft, but his eyes were not even hiding the animosity in the depths of them. "Where are you going?"
Half laying on the bed, his feet on the floor, and comfortably buried his face on her neck. With a conjuncture in his mind that he was caging her within his power. He bitterly smiled, it was a fantastic dream, was it not? To be able to restrain her from doing anything. Yet, in the end, he was also aware he could only fantasize about sizing her all by himself.
He was omnipotent; the human in his arms did not possess even the slightest mana on her. With just a flick of his finger, he could snap her delicate beautiful neck. Her stature was small, underneath him, he could crush her. Her skin was soft and smooth, easily bruised, he could make her bleed profusely. Her bones and joints were frail, he could break them without much effort on drawing his strength. He blessed her soul and gave her protection. He did all that. She was his. Yet as if she was the one who owned him, he was the one who would always desperately need her attention and love.
He watched her on the sideline. She was in a relationship with two men. He tried to be nice. He tried to be her 'good boy'. He was silent. He was patient. He had been obedient. He had always been understanding but as time went by, Matteo could say it was all for appearances. Whenever he would try to display his true nature, like just killing her and trapping her with him in heaven. He could always foresee her reaction. Those empty-cold eyes that would stare at him, no smile or warmth on her.
The magnitude of her resentment, he could not place a value on it. He did not know how much hatred she had for those two men who hurt her. But whenever he would witness how her expression would turn dire. How her eyes would become void. He could feel the oppressive air that was giving him uneasiness. He was terrified that those kinds of emotions she had for them would be directed at him.
He was jealous of them, but upon reflecting and keeping a close observance on her. He also somehow pities them as well. Yanarym was playing with their hearts, she said to him, when the time comes, she would abandon them and would come to him. He knew what her plan was, she had not said anything to him regarding it in detail. But by observation. Matteo could grasp what she was aiming to do.
She said she would abandon them. But right now, she was showing them a love that was so unconditional. Matteo was not spying on her, but with some small interaction, he could see how good she could pretend to be affectionate to Kraig. It seemed so real that even he would be envious. Then, he would realize she was faking it when she was in his arms.
Yanarym was never in love. To Kraig. To Lyndon. Or him. She did not harbor any love for them, he knew because he could see it. She could feign her affection to them but he was not blind, dumb, or dense. There was a fatuous premonition he had, that one day, it felt like she would leave him without hesitation. It was foolish because, in this world, she could never escape him yet there was that notion that was making him so terrified.
