Chapter 75: Chapter 36 Open the door, I am Merlin! [Thanks to Alliance Hierarch Niao Miao]

Everyone’s gaze was involuntarily drawn to the figure seated upon the throne of bones, because barring any surprises, he was likely the leader of the Lizardman Army, and perhaps even the King of the lizard people.

If those ugly-looking, ferocious thieves who dwell in the swamps even had a king.

Just like his subjects, the guy had a long mouth on the top of his head, but in terms of physique, he wasn’t much sturdier than the lizard people around him; in fact, his exposed skin looked rather delicate and tender.

Miss Rabbit even doubted if his skin was better than hers.

Could such a sophisticated king really command such a large group of brutal lizard people?

As if answering her question, just as the group of lizard people was about to come within range of the longbows, they suddenly stopped in their tracks.

Without distinguishing between men and women, old and young, the entire procession of thousands prostrated themselves, worshipping the figure on the bone throne.

With devoted expressions and fervent gazes, the dust they kicked up while kowtowing seemed to cover the last glimmers of twilight as if to shroud every hint of daylight left in the sky, and some of the older lizard people even shed murky tears.

After they finished worshipping, a particularly tall lizard person stood out from the crowd, and two younger lizard people brought a fat pig before him.

The pig seemed to sense its fate and began to struggle violently, emitting screams of terror.

However, the large lizard person remained unmoved, lifting the war axe high above his head with all his muscles tensed, accompanied by a loud shout.

The next moment, the pig’s head was chopped off with a single strike of the axe! It fell to the ground, rolling several times.

The strength of that big lizard person was indeed astonishing.

The other lizard people, upon witnessing this scene, burst into cheers, and the figure on the bone throne seemed to nod slightly in approval.

The large lizard person bowed his head, performing another act of worship to the figure on the throne, and upon standing up, he dipped his hand in the pig’s blood gushing from its neck and drew a strange pattern on his chest.

Soon, more and more lizard people joined in, drawing twisted blood patterns on their bodies.

They danced wildly around the bone throne, their movements frenzied, their throats emitting beast-like roars.

This bizarre spectacle made the members of the Arias family on the city walls get goosebumps.

Anton shook his head repeatedly, "Such barbarity, truly worthy of the Evil God’s offspring. Even their rituals are crude and bloody. It’s a shame that evil can never defeat righteousness, and the light of the goddess will shine again on this land!"

He spoke with conviction, yet there were very few echoes to his words.

Before today, no one would have believed that Gai Gu Swamp could hide so many lizard people, and that among them there was a king capable of commanding the entire army.

This only made them even more difficult to deal with.

Not to mention, these lizard people were hiding an Evil God behind them. Anton was vocal, but the Silver Moon Church hadn’t provided any actual help. The upcoming battle was probably not going to be easy.

The Universal Language teacher was somewhat embarrassed, casting a subconscious glance toward Ireya nearby, hoping the young girl would say something. After all, Miss Rabbit had spent a year studying at the Temple and her devotion to the goddess should surpass the others.

However, whether Ireya was scared or not, she was zoning out at the moment, her eyes unfocused, murmuring to herself, "This pattern... Why does it seem familiar?"

The lizard people twisted and turned for a while before finally stopping.

By this time, the sun had completely disappeared, and the night was about to swallow the entire land.

Yet they showed no intention of attacking the city.

The old knight furrowed his brow and said, "Could it be that these fellows want to fight us in the middle of the night? They think we’re all asleep and they can sneak in?"

As he spoke, the ranks of the lizard people suddenly moved again, splitting to both sides, clearing a path.

At the other end of the path, there was the bone throne!

The figure that had been sitting there all this time had now stood up.

He lifted his foot and stepped down from his throne, walking alone towards the direction of Teacup Castle.

What’s going on?

Everyone on the city walls was baffled, watching as that person came within bowshot range, yet still not stopping, with no other lizard people following him. Could it be that he thought he could take down the castle all by himself?

That would be too insane!

However, rather than finding it laughable, a mysterious tension arose among those on the city walls.

There was no helping it, the sheer presence of that thousand-man Lizardman Army was overwhelmingly oppressive, coupled with the bizarre rituals they had just performed, those lizard people clearly revered and worshipped their king immensely.

How could such a person foolishly come here to seek death?

Someone thought of something and exclaimed in horror, "Isn’t their Evil God said to be immortal? Could it be that it has lent this ability to its followers too?"

"How is that possible!" someone quickly retorted, "It’s not like we haven’t killed those lizard people before. As long as their corpses are promptly burned, they can’t be resurrected."

A glint of cold light flashed in Alfred’s eyes as he took his yew longbow from his attendant, drew the bow and notched an arrow, aiming at the figure that was steadily approaching.

If he could kill the king of the lizard people before the battle started, surely it would deal a heavy blow to the morale of the lizard people.

But before the old knight could release the arrow, Ireya’s cry of surprise rang by his ear, "Wait, I remember what that pattern is now! That’s the Divine Pattern of Saturday!!!"

"Hmm?"

"Alfred, don’t shoot, let him come!" the young woman struggled to contain her excitement, "Merlin might not be dead."

The old knight did not know what Li Yu’s death had to do with those lizard people, but upon hearing Ireya’s command, he lowered the longbow in his hands.

And in the brief moment of delay, the lizard person had already reached the gates.

Then the people on the wall heard a familiar voice, "Open the gate, I am Merlin!"

???

By this time, it had gotten completely dark, and the people on the walls couldn’t see clearly the features of the person below, but that large, long mouth on top of a lizard person’s head was still visible to all.

Moreover, everyone inside the castle knew that whenever Li Yu appeared, he would be wearing his elaborate black suit made from some unknown material.

Yet the lizard person below, though dressed a bit better than the others, was covered in branches and bark, along with a roughly wrapped sackcloth taken from who knows where.

Anton was the first to caution, "Be careful, this could be a trick."

"There’s no trick, who else in the world but Merlin could speak a language we don’t understand and yet make us understand?" Miss Rabbit rolled her eyes, "Open the gate, let the person in quickly!"
