Chapter 704: Chapter 30 Quintus’s Request
Several dozens of nobles, including important figures from the Figrola family, died within a single day in the western territories, leading to the annihilation of a noble family with a long history.
Such a tragedy, even in these turbulent times, still shocked countless people, but what was even more bizarre came later—the mastermind behind all this also died shortly thereafter, only moments apart.
And with Hirodod’s unexpected death, the Blood Moon Association, which was just about to come out of the shadows and was gearing up for a major expansion, collapsed instantly.
This terrifying cult, which had been a nightmare for all the western nobility, couldn’t even maintain its basic organizational structure after losing its highest and sole leader.
Originally, to counter the lords’ pursuit, Hirodod adopted a system of single-line contacts extensively, not only among the lower ranks but also quite common among the higher echelons of the sect.
Such a method was meant to ensure the maximum safety of its members and prevent others from being implicated due to the capture of one person.
This was the reason why the Blood Moon Association was particularly difficult to eliminate, but it also meant that many important members within the sect didn’t recognize each other.
Once they lost Hirodod, the brains of the organization, the entire church could no longer function normally.
Even if some still harbored ambitions to inherit Hirodod’s legacy, it was simply impossible.
This is also why Li Yu decided to assassinate Hirodod.
It could be said that the special organizational structure of the Blood Moon Association and Hirodod’s absolute authoritarianism made it highly efficient and secure, but also exceptionally fragile.
Furthermore, Li Yu pointed out that with the technology of the smoothbore gun combined with the powerful mobility of the Winged Tribe, there was virtually no one in the western territories he couldn’t kill.
If Hirodod chose not to show his face, that would be one thing, but the moment he dared to, his death was certain.
However, the fact that Zhu Zhigang did not use a gun in the end, opting instead for a direct confrontation, was somewhat beyond Li Yu’s expectations; fortunately, he wasn’t injured and returned safely the same night.
The news of Hirodod’s death left Miss Rabbit somewhat disbelieving her own ears.
After all, the western lords had previously tried countless methods and used every tactic, even leading armies to lay siege, yet Hirodod continued to thrive energetically while his enemies fell one by one.
However, as soon as the Double Rest Sect made its move, Hirodod very obligingly bit the dust, and the drastic change was too much to bear.
Li Yu didn’t find anything strange about it; technological dominance and the enhancement of racial talents made everything seem so simple. For anyone else trying to assassinate Hirodod, a master of assassination, it was an almost impossible task.
And success in the mission wasn’t the end; Li Yu still had to be wary of any possible retaliation from the remnants of the Blood Moon Association.
Considering Hirodod’s prestige within the Blood Moon Association, there were surely those who would want to avenge his death.
However, not many knew of Zhu Zhigang’s identity, and the only thing that could have linked Zhu Zhigang to the Double Rest Sect, the musket, had not been used.
Li Yu reckoned it wouldn’t be easy for the Blood Moon Association to find out who killed Hirodod.
Indeed, the following days in Green Field remained calm, with no attacks, until on the seventh day, Teacup Castle received an unexpected visitor.
"You are... Quintus the High Priest," Irelia observed the disheveled man before her, his gaze lost.
It was hard to associate him with the serious and earnest High Priest of the Silver Moon Church from before.
Quintus nodded, took the water the maid handed him, and gulped it down. He drank four bowls in a row before stopping.
First, he was indeed extremely thirsty, and second, the water was exceptionally delicious with no odd taste and a hint of sweetness lingering afterward.
Quintus, setting down the bowl, asked with puzzlement, "Have you dug a new well in the castle?"
"No, this is the work of Prophet Merlin. He has built us a reservoir and purified the river water inside," Miss Rabbit said.
She had now taken a liking to drinking water too, drinking less wine than before, but she would still choose cola if it were available.
Quintus was somewhat surprised by this response, but not overly so.
He knew that the Prophet was someone who could make things that seemed inconceivable to others seem ordinary.
"You’re from Duolin City, right?" the Lady paused before continuing, "I heard that you and Lord Gaven were... uh... prior to this..."
"We were defeated by Hirodod and captured by his men," Quintus admitted crisply.
"Ha, I’m glad to see you’re safe now..."
"I thought I was done for this time, but by now, you must also know about the events that took place in Duolin City," Quintus said.
"Hmm, Hirodod was killed by an assassin from who knows where," Miss Rabbit said, unclear about Quintus’s intentions, thus she didn’t disclose all the information she had.
Quintus nodded, "He is dead, and the Blood Moon Association is finished. No one bothered with me afterward, so I was free."
"What is the situation in Duolin City now?"
"It was chaotic when I left. Almost all members of the Raimondi family had been executed by Hirodod. There’s no one in charge there now, and many people are fleeing, fearing the repercussions from the Figrola family."
A sigh escaped Quintus as he recalled all he had seen and heard on his journey.
"That’s terrible," the Lady concurred, "Do you need my help with something? Is that why you came to see me?"
"Yes, I’m aware my request might be presumptuous, but I hope to have an audience with Prophet Merlin," said Quintus.
"Why?" the Lady asked, somewhat wary. After all, the Double Rest Sect had just killed Hirodod, and Quintus had been held by him for so long, Miss Rabbit didn’t know if he had defected.
However, Quintus’s answer took her by surprise, "I have some questions I wish to ask Prophet Merlin."
"But you are the High Priest of the Silver Moon Church," she pointed out.
"I... have lost my direction," Quintus said, "If possible, I’d like to follow Prophet Merlin for a time and become his student."
"Are you looking to join the Double Rest Sect?" Miss Rabbit nearly jumped out of her chair in shock.
"I haven’t decided yet," Quintus said, "But in my current state, I indeed can no longer serve as the High Priest of the Silver Moon Church."
"Even if you say that... you are still seen as the High Priest by the faithful in Pisya, and you are the only High Priest left in the Church. If you too were to... hmm, come to follow Prophet Merlin, have you considered what the believers might think? Have you thought about the consequences?"
