Chapter 698: Chapter 24 The End of the Year Approaches

As the New Year was approaching, Li Yu gave everyone a few days off in advance to make it convenient for them to buy tickets and head home.

However, he himself wasn’t in a hurry to leave and stayed in City B for two more days, where he bought some New Year’s goods and shipped them back home first.

He also took the time to sign a client, a young man who had been bedridden for many years, named Wu Yang. Wu Yang was previously a member of Lu Weijia’s online group and worked as a freelance illustrator. He was fond of novels and games, especially those with a fantasy backdrop.

In his room, Li Yu saw many figures and collections from "Demon Realm," "Dragon Spear," "Divine Realm," and "Game of Thrones."

The two chatted briefly, and Wu Yang enthusiastically shared his dream—he said if there truly were an afterlife, he hoped to become a knight and write his own legend.

"I’ve played quite a few strategy banner games, and I’m very good at arranging troops and using the environment. Oh, I’ve also practiced swordsmanship, though...only with my upper body, but I’ve remembered the steps, and I can add more later, um, if I could walk again."

Li Yu nodded and handed over the contract, "Please be sure to read the terms carefully. If there are no issues, you can sign at the end. This way, when you...pass away, I will come back to take your soul."

"Cool." Wu Yang took the contract, skimmed through it quickly, and hurriedly wrote down his name, then looked up at Li Yu, "Is there ’magic’ there?"

"To my knowledge, not yet, but there are some supernatural powers and dragons."

"Dragons? Wow, I would really love to see those massive creatures with my own eyes."

"You will have the chance," Li Yu said as he stood up and shook hands with Wu Yang, "Take care of yourself."

"I will, I still have to do some more preparations for my knight’s path, so I’m not caught off guard when I start the new position."

Li Yu left Wu Yang’s residence, retrieved his car from a nearby parking lot, and drove to the company’s parking lot.

With only two intersections left before reaching the park, Li Yu stopped at a red light and saw a familiar figure on the roadside.

It was An Yixin, who lived in the apartment above his, standing with four people who seemed like her classmates.

However, An Yixin’s gaze seemed very cautious, constantly holding onto the headphones around her neck.

The next moment, she was grabbed by the hair by a tall thin girl in a jacket, "Yiyi’s iPad Pro was stolen by you, wasn’t it? I’ve heard such rumors early on; you’re not clean-handed."

The girl referred to as Yiyi wore a pink Miu Miu down jacket and stood on the side, looking down.

She was accompanied by two other boys.

An Yixin struggled to pry the tall thin girl’s hand off, "I didn’t steal her iPad Pro, you’ve got the wrong person."

"Really?" The tall girl sneered and applied more force, "Yiyi said at lunch today, you looked over here several times, probably intending to make a move then."

"I said it wasn’t me who stole it!" An Yixin suddenly stretched out her hand and punched the tall girl in the chest.

The latter was caught off-guard and involuntarily let go of the hair she had been grabbing.

An Yixin tried to take advantage of the moment to escape, but was stopped by a quick-handed boy.

The thin tall girl, clearly angered by An Yixin’s punch, slapped her, but given the street was crowded, she refrained from doing anything more excessive.

She just signaled to the two boys with her eyes to take An Yixin to a less crowded place.

Meanwhile, Yiyi still kept her head down and didn’t say a word, as if the whole situation had nothing to do with her.

An Yixin wanted to scream for help, but the tall thin girl threatened her first, "If you dare make a sound, forget about mixing in at school. I’ll have people block you in the bathroom and beat you every day.

"Either hand over the iPad Pro or pay fifteen thousand yuan."

"I said I didn’t steal her iPad Pro, and I wasn’t looking at her during lunch, just the stray cat outside the window," An Yixin said.

"You little liar," the tall girl grabbed An Yixin’s collar and raised her hand again.

But at that moment, a BMW 3 series stopped beside them.

Li Yu rolled down the window and said to An Yixin, "Get in."

An Yixin glanced at the skinny tall girl, who hesitated, glanced sideways at Yiyi with the corner of her eye. Yiyi probably didn’t want the situation to escalate and involve others, so she nodded slightly at her.

The skinny tall girl then let go of her hand and sneered at An Yixin, "I underestimated you, not only do you steal, but you also sell yourself. How much for one night with you? Do you want me to introduce you to some clients?"

An Yixin did not answer but walked a few steps to pick up the sports shoe she had kicked off during the struggle.

Then she opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat.

Li Yu waited for her to buckle up before he accelerated away.

"Nice car," An Yixin sniffed and said.

"It’s the company’s," Li Yu replied while driving, "Did you cause trouble again?"

"That’s how the world is, if you’re unlucky, it just keeps going,"

"You should also make some friends at school to avoid situations like what just happened," Li Yu suggested.

"It’s useless," An Yixin responded indifferently, "You adults always say how pure the school is, but to me, the school’s hierarchy is no less than a slave society.

"Here, the classes are distinct. If you’re at the top of the pyramid, like Zhang Jingyi, you don’t have to do anything; there are loads of people crying to be your friend.

"But if you’re like me, at the very bottom of the food chain, even if you force a smile and squeeze into their little circle, you are just their toy and slave."

"Why did they hit you?" Li Yu asked.

"They thought I stole Zhang Jingyi’s iPad Pro."

"Did you?"

"I’m not an idiot, there are plenty of easier targets, why would I mess with Zhang Jingyi and her crowd."

"So you have been stealing things recently?"

"No, I took your advice and stopped," An Yixin said, "I’m looking for new ways to make money."

"Are you that short on spending money?"

Li Yu glanced at An Yixin again and noticed that the right sleeve of her down jacket was torn, exposing the synthetic cotton inside.

An Yixin nodded, "I need money to buy records."

"You need a new down jacket," Li Yu said, "Come on, I’ll take you to a nearby mall to choose one."

"What do I have to give in return?" An Yixin looked up.

"You can work part-time at my place, my company is currently making some TikTok and ’B’ site short videos, and when we are short on actors, you’ll have to step in, depending on how well you perform, I’ll pay you accordingly."
