Chapter 663: Chapter 36 Hirodod’s Parting Words

After capturing Hirodod, Juan was even more vigilant instead of relaxing, and he immediately rushed to Duolin City without any delay.

Along the way, they only rested four times, and they ate only the dry food they brought with themselves to minimize interaction with the lords along the way, only showing the handwritten letter from Quintus the High Priest when they were stopped to ask for passage.

In this manner, they arrived at the base of Duolin City in just six days.

At the sight of the city walls, Juan finally let his tense heart relax substantially.

He sent someone ahead to notify Quintus the High Priest and City Lord Shapiro, and now both of them had already come to the outside of the city, followed by the guards of the Raimondi family, totaling three hundred men.

Juan had the others stay where they were while he took Hirodod over by himself.

Since his capture, apart from showing interest in the Holy Artifact of the Double Rest Sect that Juan carried on the first day and asking a few more questions, Hirodod had been very quiet.

It was only now that he spoke again, "It seems we are about to part ways, Knight."

Juan ignored him.

Hirodod didn’t mind and continued on his own, "Give my regards to your Lord. Tell her I eagerly await our next meeting when we will decide the fate of the Western Lands."

Juan scoffed, "There won’t be a next time. Do you think you can survive once you’re sent into Duolin City, especially since Sir Ireya is not like you? She lacks your greed and would never betray the Figrola family."

"Is that so? What about Prophet Merlin? Is he also content with the status quo and utterly without ambition?" Hirodod asked with a smile.

Juan remained silent.

Hirodod said no more and followed Juan down from the horse to face Quintus the High Priest and City Lord Shapiro.

Hirodod first glanced at Quintus and said approvingly, "The Silver Moon Church is now under your management? Well done. You actually managed to capture me. They should have made you the High Priest sooner."

Then he looked toward Shapiro, "You are..."

"Your nightmare. You murdered my father and brother, and now it’s time to pay your debts." A grim smile appeared on Shapiro’s face.

"Oh, you’re now the Lord of Duolin City. Shouldn’t you be thanking me for that?" Hirodod retorted.

"I do appreciate your sense of humor, really, because you’re definitely going to need it," Shapiro said while straightening Hirodod’s collar.

After he finished, he leaned close to Hirodod’s ear and whispered in a volume only the two of them could hear.

"Regarding my father and brother, I indeed should thank you, but you know, in front of others, I have to appear a bit enraged, so until the trial, you and I are going to spend some very pleasant time together.

"I won’t kill you, but I assure you, by that time, you’ll be begging me to."

After he finished, he had the guards behind him take Hirodod down to the dungeon under the castle.

Quintus the High Priest thanked Juan and invited him and his men to join the victory banquet that evening, but Juan politely declined.

The latter explained that it had been a while since he had left Green Field, and he and his men would like to return as soon as possible.

Quintus the High Priest did not press the issue; Juan and his people were followers of the Double Rest Sect, and participating in a banquet hosted by the Silver Moon Church would indeed be somewhat awkward, not just for them but also for the other attendees.

Moreover, because they previously shared a common enemy in Hirodod, the relationship between the Silver Moon Church and the Double Rest Sect had eased. Even when Lord Hels hinted that Quintus should find ways to contain the growth of the Double Rest Sect, Quintus pretended not to hear.

But now that Hirodod had been arrested, the Double Rest Sect would soon become a major concern for the Silver Moon Church again.

Quintus had 3,000 gold lions brought out as a reward for the arrest of Hirodod and handed them to Juan.

After receiving the money, Juan stopped the High Priest who was about to leave, "Why not kill him now?"

"What?" Quintus halted.

"Why not just kill Hirodod?" Juan said, "If it were me, I wouldn’t let such a guy live even one more night."

"The Silver Moon Church has its rules," Quintus explained. "That is also our biggest difference from Hirodod. We cannot deprive someone of life without a trial, no matter how utterly wicked the person is.

"Moreover, the Blood Moon Association still has many remnants outside, and I have heard that Hirodod has connections with the traitor Hugo and Ilkand. We still have many things to ask him.

"Of course, the interrogation won’t last long. The day for the trial has already been set, one month from now. If Sir Ireya is interested, she can also come to observe."

Juan nodded, "I will bring your words back." Then he mounted his horse and left with the remaining people.

After returning to Teacup Castle, Juan relayed everything that had happened over the past few days to the Lady, including the conversation outside Duolin City between Hirodod and Quintus.

Miss Rabbit was taken aback after hearing everything, "Hirodod said that when we meet again, he will decide the fate of the West?"

"Those were his exact words."

"That guy is too arrogant, where does he put the Figrola family? They are the real rulers of the West; that’s what the people of this land believe."

"That’s what I told him too, that you wouldn’t betray the Figrola family."

Miss Rabbit nodded, then after a moment added, "Hirodod also said that Prophet Merlin wants the West... do you think that’s credible?"

"I think he just said that to stir up discord between you and Prophet Merlin. You shouldn’t take it to heart."

"No, you misunderstand me," she corrected. "I’m not questioning Prophet Merlin, I just realized that he too has intentions for the West. Yes, he indeed said he hopes more people will come to believe in the Double Rest Sect..."

Miss Rabbit stroked her chin, "If I could help him take over the West, would he..."

Juan was startled, "Lady Ireya, are you thinking of replacing the Figrola family as the new ruler of the West?"

"Not at all, I just want to have a good talk with Lord Hels when he returns, to see if I can persuade him to support the Double Rest Sect taking over the Silver Moon Church. Why do you all seem to think I want to replace the Figrola family so much?"

"Who else has said so?"

"Angela, she thinks that me setting up the viewing club was also for this reason." The Lady waved her hand dismissively, "Never mind, that girl has never been very sharp, don’t worry about it."

Juan considered his words carefully before advising, "You should probably not go looking for Lord Hels. He is very wary of you right now, and he definitely wouldn’t want the Double Rest Sect developing too quickly in the West, let alone replacing the Silver Moon Church."

"Hmm, you’re right, I just wanted to ask."
