Chapter 629: Chapter 2: Capturing the City

The Wing Tribe army effortlessly seized the dock.

The nearby garrison was no match for them, barely managing to draw their swords before being knocked down by a volley of arrows.

The Wing Tribes held the high ground, attacking their targets below with reckless abandon.

The Empire’s soldiers, who usually carried few bows and arrows while patrolling, found their few archers quickly becoming the targets of the Wing Clan Warriors’ attacks.

Moreover, it was difficult for them to hit an enemy above them, so in the first exchange, the Wing Tribe gained a decisive victory with overwhelming superiority.

The entire battle lasted less than a quarter of an hour, with the Empire losing four squads, nearly fifty men.

In contrast, only two of the Wing Tribe were slightly injured, one of whom had been ambushed and wounded in the arm by a merchant ship’s guard.

The Wing Tribesmen pulled the guard out from the crowd, after which a Wing Clan Warrior stepped forward, grabbed one of the man’s legs, spread his wings again, and soared into the sky.

He flew very high, as high as four Sea God Giant Statues, and then just let go.

The guard screamed miserably, plummeting straight down and, with a loud crash, turned into a pile of flesh.

The crowd was petrified by this cruel and bloody scene, falling into dead silence.

But it must be said that such a method was indeed effective, as afterward, no one dared to secretly attack the Wing Tribesmen again.

After seizing control of the dock, they surprisingly did not advance further.

While a small part of them remained in the air for sentry duty and clearing any approaching Empire squads, the rest landed and rested right there.

It was only then that the people at the dock realized that all these Wing Tribe members appeared travel-worn and somewhat exhausted.

Some even casually found a spot to lean against and immediately fell asleep.

This sparked a glimmer of hope in the hearts of the surviving dock workers.

Extended military campaigns are a major taboo for soldiers, and although the Wing Tribe had flown to the Bratis Continent, they had clearly paid a steep price.

To minimize their weight, they did not wear armor, and they only carried daggers and bows with few arrows, around ten per person.

Furthermore, it seemed they had run out of food and freshwater, which explained why they did not continue to capture other locations after seizing the dock.

If the nobles of Crab’s Corner could quickly muster a guard at this time, they might have a chance to defeat the invaders or at least drive away these barbaric winged creatures.

However, as everyone anxiously waited, no Empire reinforcements appeared; instead, they saw a single cavalryman approaching.

This cavalryman, alone without any companions, projected a lonely and solemn silhouette under the sunlight.

He ran while raising his right hand, curling his fingers slightly with his thumb up and his four other fingers pointing down, making an odd hand gesture.

In the next moment, a miracle occurred—the Wing Tribe in the sky did not attack him, allowing him to reach the front of the army.

The cavalryman leaped off his horse, then took off the excessively bulky armor he wore, revealing a pair of wings on his back.

He approached a man with white hair, whose even neck sweat hairs were white, but sporting a pair of huge gray wings, and nuzzled the man’s neck, saying respectfully,

"Lord Solomon, welcome to your hunting ground."

"You’re... Yaxu, aren’t you? From the Red Collar Tribe. I remember you were among the first to infiltrate this Continent, coming here about seven years ago, right?"

"For eight years, I quietly observed the people here, learned their language and customs," Yaxu said.

"I also made acquaintances with quite a few nobles, carefully studied their likes and dislikes, and managed to persuade some of them to join us."

"Right now, the armory is in our hands, but we need you to send support, as the Kant family alone can’t hold off the guard team for long."

"Understood," Lord Solomon nodded, "I’ll send someone right away. What about food?"

"Stockpiling food on a large scale can attract attention, and since I only knew the army would arrive soon, but not the exact time of your arrival, I didn’t prepare any food.

"But no worries, we can just raid the market; there’s plenty of food there."

"Good," Lord Solomon, who disliked idle talk, said directly, "Once we get the weapons and have eaten, we’ll go meet the master of this place, kill him, and warn the others in the city."

"If any other families think about resisting us, we’ll eliminate them too, and tell the people here that this land is getting a new master."

"Understood."

Just as Yaxu finished speaking, he suddenly saw Lord Solomon throw a punch at him.

A look of astonishment appeared on the face of the Red Collar Tribe warrior, not understanding why Lord Solomon would suddenly strike him.

And that punch was no light one; it sent him flying.

Simultaneously, Lord Solomon himself spread the huge wings on his back, stamped his feet on the ground forcefully, and soared into the air.

The next moment, Yaxu saw a giant crossbow arrow, nearly as thick as a man’s forearm, strike the ground where they had just been standing, creating a deep pit!

Dust flew everywhere, and Yaxu felt a pain on his cheek, having been cut by the flying debris.

However, thanks to Lord Solomon knocking him away just in time, his life was spared.

"What was that?" Lord Solomon frowned, looking in the direction from which the giant crossbow arrow had come.

Yaxu, still shaken, swallowed, then continued.

"That’s the Sea King Spear, a giant crossbow developed by the Weiting Family primarily for naval battles. They also left twelve of them on the city walls, ready to deal with any attacking fleets.

"The weapon is very powerful, but it’s not easy to move or adjust, and its accuracy is mediocre. It was probably just an accident just now."

Lord Solomon said, "Hmm, I noticed that too, but let’s have someone dismantle those giant crossbows anyway, to prevent a repeat of what just happened."

Yaxu naturally had no objections.

Lord Solomon sent several teams to lift stones and destroy the twelve Sea King Spears on the city walls.

Then, leaving only a small group to guard the dock, the rest of the troops split into two groups: one to raid the market for food and the other to take over the armory and select weapons and equipment.

During this, they engaged in a few battles, but none of considerable size, and the Wing Tribe people easily triumphed.

By then, Solomon had realized that the master of the city likely had already gathered the main military forces inside, it seemed they were resolved to hold the castle to the death.

They apparently intended to use those sturdy stone fortresses to fend off invaders, just like their forefathers.

However, Solomon was not worried about this; next, he planned to teach all the nobles of the continent a good lesson.
