Chapter 609: Chapter 41 Old Friends Meet Again

Jacob had never seen such strange things before.

They had no wings or feathers, yet they could still fly in the sky, buzzing, and they had three eyes.

But what was most astonishing was their bodies, which appeared to have not a single shred of flesh on them, as all the white bones were exposed.

Jacob then noticed that these little creatures seemed to be helping the imperial troops in their pursuit of the mountain wild people.

They soared high above and constantly circled the air, searching for the wild people who had hidden in the woods.

And the wild people, often only focusing on evading the pursuers behind them, couldn’t anticipate that the real danger actually came from above.

Once those little creatures targeted someone, somehow without even flying back, they could communicate across a distance to the imperial soldiers on the other side.

And then the unfortunate wild person would be dragged out of their hiding place.

Jacob followed the imperial people for three days and afterward discovered even more baffling things.

For example, the imperial people could actually make use of the mountain rats, and it was with the rats’ help that they located the wild people’s tribes.

Moreover, pillaging the wild people’s tribes also solved their food crisis. They even gathered the wild people together, forcing them with food to serve as their vanguard.

Before coming here, Jacob hadn’t cared much, but now the more he watched, the deeper his frown became.

That Lady called Ireya was indeed not simple. Putting aside her martial arts, as Jacob had yet to see the maiden in action, her strategy and military capability were enough to dazzle.

If he hadn’t come to see this time, he would have had no idea that his previous plan was on the verge of failure.

Jacob knew that if he allowed the Lady to keep raiding in the Dragon Ridge Mountain Range, the wild people’s tribes would likely switch sides.

He intended to go back and negotiate with the Dwarves and have them abandon their continued blockade of the Mountain Pass to fight a direct battle with the Imperial Army.

The Dwarf Army had greater numbers than the Imperial troops and had superior weapons, with the help of the wild people.

With Jacob also stepping in to help them regain aerial supremacy, the odds were highly in favor of the Dwarves.

But Jacob was also aware that convincing the Dwarves would not be easy.

Those fellows were very greedy. The reason Jacob had been able to persuade them to take action in the first place was that his plan allowed the Dwarves to take the Western Territories with minimal cost.

But if it came to a head-on clash, those imperial soldiers were not pushovers, and with Ireya, a leader skilled in both literature and military, leading them, even if they could ultimately win, it would certainly come at no small cost.

However, the situation had changed, and if they procrastinated, it would only become more disadvantageous for the Dwarves.

Jacob decided to bring back one of those flying strange birds so that the Dwarves could realize the seriousness of the issue.

What Jacob didn’t expect was that these strange birds were so fragile that they fell out of the sky with just a casual throw of a pebble.

And when Jacob picked it up, the thing lay motionless. It had no heartbeat, and when he placed food and water in front of it, there was no reaction.

Jacob frowned; a dead strange bird couldn’t instill a sense of crisis in those stubborn Dwarves.

In fact, if he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, even Jacob himself would hardly believe that such strange creatures could exist on the Continent.

So, Jacob decided to try to catch another one, this time intact.

And he soon got another chance.

Late at night, Jacob rested on a large tree, and just before dawn when he opened his eyes, he spotted something twinkling in the sky not far away.

At first, Jacob thought they were stars, but stars don’t emit green light.

And this season, there shouldn’t be any fireflies in the mountains.

Jacob’s heart stirred, and he moved closer to take a careful look at the point of light, shocked to discover that it was actually emitted by the same strange flying creatures he had seen before.

The more Jacob tried to understand what it was, the more baffled he became. It seemed to have many abilities, yet its body was quite fragile.

Jacob watched for a while longer, making sure to scout the nearby area to confirm that there were no Empire archers lying in ambush.

When he turned his attention back to the strange bird, it seemed to also be thinking of heading home.

It was now hovering above the very forest where Jacob had knocked down its companion, suggesting that the imperial people had not given up on finding the lost creature.

This incidentally proved how important these strange birds were to them.

Jacob felt this was probably not a trap, and with the altitude the creature was currently at, even if there were any dangers, he could easily escape.

After all, he was the true sovereign of the skies.

The combat power displayed by these strange birds posed no threat to him.

With that thought, Jacob no longer hesitated and once again unfolded the wings behind him.

He still chose to approach from behind quietly, avoiding the bird’s eyes, until they were less than a step away from each other, and the strange bird still seemed completely unaware of the danger behind it.

Are its hearing and smell not very good either?

Jacob exhaled softly, reached out his hand to catch the strange bird in front of him.

Then he felt a pain in his palm, quickly drew back his hand, and looked at it to find a new wound along the edge.

Jacob was a bit annoyed. He had examined the broken creature before and seen the propellers on its corners. Yet the thing was thin and fragile, so Jacob hadn’t expected it to have such lethality when spinning.

But Jacob was not without methods. In order to capture an intact drone, he had prepared a cloth bag.

Jacob directly threw the cloth bag over the drone, effectively bagging it.

Afterward, Jacob prepared to leave.

But as he turned around, he saw a figure.

Jacob’s eyes widened because he was still in the air, and the newcomer also had a pair of wings just like him.

However, the person’s wings looked even bigger than his and bore a more majestic stance.

Using the moonlight overhead, Jacob recognized the person.

"Lord Moen? You’re actually alive?!!"

Jacob’s tone was filled with surprise and excitement; he had not expected Moen, who was rumored to have sacrificed himself at the martial arts tournament, to still be alive.

And it seemed he was doing quite well, his eyes appearing even brighter than before, staring straight at him.

Yet, when "Moen" spoke, Jacob was confused all over again.

All he heard was a loud shout from the other person, "Halt! From whence does this little thief come, daring to covet the treasure of Hua Xia! Let me, Green Field Bruce, meet you!"
