Chapter 591: Chapter 23: Merging with the Night
"Do you really think the victors are us?" the wild woman said. "In order to lure that hairy-eared old guy into the mountains, the tribe has already lost half its people. Even we’ve been captured, and who knows if we can even see tomorrow’s sun."
"It’s a necessary sacrifice," Iron Spear," Red Beard said.
"Don’t talk like those people outside the mountain; it makes me sick," Iron Spear paused, "I don’t trust those Dwarfs. They are our enemies, and our ancestors have always been fighting against those greedy folks."
"Today is unlike the past; they’ve already agreed to give us back our lands."
"I don’t think those Dwarfs are that kind-hearted."
"Of course they’re not kind-hearted, they just have bigger schemes. They want the Western Territories more than the land at the foot of the mountain, the entire Western Territories. Then their armies will continue eastwards, capturing Golden Valley, Elk Valley... until they take Lion Heart Castle and capture the Emperors of the Orcs, Humans, and Dwarfs."
"In my opinion, those Dwarfs must have drunk too much mead; their minds aren’t right," Iron Spear scoffed. "If it weren’t for Dragon Ridge Mountain, I bet they would have been beaten to a pulp by the imperial people a long time ago. They even dare to dream of capturing someone else’s Emperor."
"I’ve said today is unlike the past. These Dwarfs have allies this time, very powerful allies. Moreover, the previous Emperor who was said to be very strong has died, replaced by a younger one. Someone even burned down the Imperial Palace," Red Beard said.
"That’s all what those Dwarfs say, who knows if it’s true or not. And why should we go down the mountain anyway? Isn’t living up here quite good?" Iron Spear hugged his brother a bit tighter.
Red Beard almost couldn’t breathe, buried under the weight. "What are you talking about? There’s nothing on the mountain, how can it possibly compare to what’s below?"
"But we still have each other, don’t we?" Iron Spear shrugged, "And most importantly, we can all stay alive."
"Just give me some time, I’m thinking about how to escape from here. And hasn’t our inside ally already arrived?"
Red Beard finished speaking but noticed that Iron Spear did not respond to him but was staring blankly in a certain direction.
Following her gaze, Red Beard saw a figure not far away.
The person was dressed in strange black clothes, blending completely into the night.
Red Beard was startled, "When did that guy get here?"
"He’s been there for a while," Iron Spear said.
"Did he hear what we just said?"
"What does it matter, he wouldn’t understand anyway," Iron Spear said dismissively.
"Better be careful anyway," Red Beard muttered, only to see the wild woman suddenly puff up her chest.
"What are you doing now?"
"Trying to see if I can seduce him a bit. I don’t want to just sit here waiting for doom," she said.
Hearing this, Red Beard felt a surge of jealousy and burst out, "Stupid woman, have you ever seen any man interested in a wild woman?"
"A wild woman is still a woman," Iron Spear scoffed. "This is an army camp; they can’t find any other women here, can they? And just now, he was definitely staring at me a lot."
"You’re my woman; how can you seduce another man right in front of me?!" Red Beard’s face turned blue with anger, unable to restrain himself, he reached out to grab Iron Spear by the throat.
Iron Spear, not willing to show weakness, immediately bit Red Beard’s ear, and the two of them wrestled on the ground. Red Beard ultimately used his strength to firmly pin Iron Spear to the ground.
Panting heavily, he said, "If you look at that man again, I’ll gouge out your eyes. I mean what I say."
"I concede," Iron Spear said decisively, "My heart belongs only to you, brother, and besides, that guy has already left."
Red Beard turned around and, indeed, discovered that the strange man in black had vanished, as if he had never been there.
Meanwhile, Ireya hadn’t gone to sleep yet; she and twenty-four other nobles were crammed into a tent.
There were no chairs here, only a wooden table covered with an old-looking map.
This map was given to the Lady before they set off by Hels, said to be the only map of the Dragon Ridge mountain range in the entire Western domain.
The date of its creation was untraceable, and the handwriting had become somewhat blurred due to the passage of time. Not only that, but like other maps of the Bratis Continent, it was also inaccurately drawn.
Some places were labeled with bizarre monster names such as Bigfoot and Long-haired Monster.
The group made do with it, mainly trying to figure out where Marquis Kuren and others might be trapped and which routes to take into the mountains tomorrow.
They had been debating for some time now, but hadn’t reached any conclusion yet.
After all, everyone was too unfamiliar with the Dragon Ridge Mountain Range; no one had entered it before.
What the nobles could do now was to let their imaginations run wild with a dubious map, and since everyone was speculating, no one could convince anyone else.
The Lady was suffering from a headache when she saw Li Yu walking back into the tent from outside. Her eyes lit up, "Prophet Merlin, you just went out for a walk, did you find anything?"
However, Li Yu’s reply somewhat disappointed her, "No."
"Uh, that’s alright. Once we move into the mountains, we’ll rely on you, Prophet Merlin, to use your divine power to summon those Three-eyed Divine Birds and help us find the Marquis," Miss Rabbit added.
But then she saw Li Yu shake his head again, "The Three-eyed Divine Birds can’t be used."
"Why?"
"Because there is a mysterious power contained in the mountain range that prevents me from awakening the Divine Birds."
"How could this be?" the Lady exclaimed in surprise.
At this moment, a nobleman known as the Miser thought of something, his expression changing as he said, "Could it be because of the dragon?"
"There are dragons here too?"
"No, there are no living dragons left, but the dead ones are still here. It has always been rumored in the West that this mountain range was transformed from an incredibly massive giant dragon after its death.
"The mysterious power you mentioned may be the residual Dragon Power of this place."
"That possibility isn’t ruled out," Li Yu nodded.
All the nobles present were deceived by the solemn demeanor of the Double Rest Sect’s prophet, only Ireya, who had always been with Li Yu, sensed that someone might be spouting nonsense.
Because during their previous battle with the Black Dragon, Li Yu had never mentioned any Dragon Power, nor had he seen any effect of Dragon Power on any holy artifact he possessed.
Ireya was curious why the prophet of the Double Rest Sect would lie about this issue.
But with many people in the tent at that moment, the Lady could only suppress her curiosity until after the meeting, when she then pulled Li Yu into her own tent.
