Work Prophet -
Chapter 581 - 13 Negotiation
Chapter 581: Chapter 13 Negotiation
Two days later, Li Yu returned to Bratis, and the next morning, Ivan couldn’t wait to come find him, and his attitude was even more respectful than before, excitedly saying,
"Prophet Merlin, your ritual worked, Red Leaf Lake has truly been cleansed! Yesterday when I went to the lakeside, I noticed the water color was much lighter, and the stench was also much less.
"This is truly miraculous, the Divine Power of Saturday is indeed astonishing!!!"
However, upon hearing this, Li Yu frowned and said, "You said you went to the lake yesterday, and the stench was still there, and the water wasn’t completely clear?"
"Yes, that’s correct. I guess it does require a process to completely clear up." Ivan became anxious upon Li Yu’s comment.
"It does require a process, that’s correct, but one day should be enough, unless..."
"Unless what?"
"The ritual didn’t actually succeed," Li Yu stated.
"Ah?" Ivan was startled.
Li Yu didn’t immediately conclude but merely said, "Let’s go to the lakeside and have a look first."
Subsequently, the group returned to the edge of Red Leaf Lake, which still emanated a stench, though the stench was much less than two days earlier.
Li Yu walked along the lakeshore and then suddenly closed his eyes.
The next moment, despite there being no wind, Ivan still heard the rustling of leaves and the sound of the lake water lapping against the shore.
However, it didn’t last very long. Shortly after, as Li Yu opened his eyes again, that sound also vanished along with it.
"How is it?" Ivan asked nervously.
"The ritual indeed didn’t succeed," Li Yu said.
"Then, then what should we do to rectify it?"
"There’s no way to rectify it," Li Yu shook his head, "Red Leaf Lake is only temporarily better. I can sense that the mood of the Water Spirit is more volatile than before, so the environment here will further deteriorate, becoming worse than it was before."
Upon hearing this, Ivan, already anxious, felt more urgent, "Getting worse, how much worse can it get? Will Red Leaf Lake become even smellier?"
"More than that; the animals in this forest will contract diseases from drinking the water here, and the people will get sick from eating the meat of those animals," Li Yu explained.
"How can this be?" Ivan was shocked.
If, at the beginning of their meeting, he had some doubts about Li Yu’s abilities, the past days had convinced him of Li Yu’s words after witnessing his methods.
Hearing this from Li Yu, he instantly became tense.
"You are a prophet of the Double Rest Sect, the great emissary of Saturday in the mortal world. You must have a way to save this land and the people on it, right?"
Ivan even clenched his teeth and said, "I, I am willing to pay you five hundred, no, seven hundred gold lions to dispel the curse of Red Leaf Lake."
"What you need to seek now is not me, but your niece, Yimer," Li Yu stated, "Have I not mentioned it? She can communicate with the Water Spirit. For now, the only solution is to ask her to appease the wrath of the Water Spirit again, but..."
"But what?"
"But this requires her to pay a part of her life energy as a price again, and doing so twice consecutively is a very dangerous thing. Even I cannot truly heal her afterward."
"It doesn’t matter, she’s young and very healthy," Ivan dismissed the concern.
However, Li Yu shook his head again, "Neither you nor I have a say in this matter; it has to be her own willing decision."
"Then I’ll go and talk to her now."
Ivan decisively said, then pulled Yimer aside. However, this time the conversation between the two did not seem to go well.
Even as Garrison’s right hand unintentionally rested on his sword hilt, Yimer, although appearing very scared, still resolutely shook her head.
Ivan nearly exploded in rage. He glared fiercely at his niece, stepping closer and then raised his hand.
Yimer closed her eyes.
Garrison coughed lightly and leaned in to whisper in Ivan’s ear, "Sir, Sir Ireya and the people from the Double Rest Sect are watching us."
Only then did Ivan realize he had lost his composure a bit. He lowered his hand and demanded of Yimer, "Tell me, what exactly do you want?"
"I hope you can let me and my mother leave here?"
"Leave, where can you go, and which lord would take you in?" Ivan sneered.
"That’s for me to worry about; anyhow, I’ll go back to Green Field with Prophet Merlin to treat my injuries first."
"If your father knew you were so ungrateful, he would definitely be ashamed. Don’t forget who lent a helping hand when you needed it most!"
"You drove us out of the castle, making us live with those smelly farmers, and only allowed us to eat black bread," Yimer said, becoming agitated.
"Moreover, I gave my Life Energy to purify your lake for you. I have already repaid the kindness you showed to me and my mother. Please, for the sake of my father, let us leave!"
Seeing that intimidation was ineffective, Ivan decided to change his approach, softening his tone considerably.
"I’ve said before, moving you out of the castle was also for your protection; if your father were here, he would definitely understand my good intentions.
"Well, since you misunderstand me so deeply, I, of course, have no reason to stop you if you really insist on leaving. You can always come back if you can’t find a new place to settle.
"How about that, are you satisfied now?" Ivan looked at Yimer.
She nodded, but then quickly added, "Please swear in front of Sir Ireya and Prophet Merlin."
"What?" Ivan’s expression shifted slightly, a flash of anger flickering in his eyes, "Are you questioning the honor of a noble like me?"
Yimer almost got scared but remembered Li Yu’s advice and boldly said, "It’s not that I don’t trust you, Uncle. Isn’t it also a tradition on the Bratis Continent to have virtuous people as witnesses when taking an oath?"
"This is just a matter within our family; there’s no need to involve outsiders." Ivan waved his hand.
"But what if I insist?"
Ivan looked at Yimer again, his gaze darkening. "Who taught you this?"
The girl almost thought her secret with Li Yu had been discovered, but fortunately, he then muttered to himself, "It must be your mother, Shelly. It seems she’s still brooding over what happened at the party."
A reluctant and hesitant look crossed Yimer’s face. She was reluctant to give up the inheritance of Duren, but removing the curse from Red Leaf Lake was clearly more pressing, so Yimer added painfully.
"Fine, I agree. Let Sir Ireya and Prophet Merlin be our witnesses. But let me make myself clear, don’t try any tricks on me this time.
"If by tomorrow Red Leaf Lake isn’t clear again, you and your mother will never think of leaving here again."
