Chapter 482: Chapter 100 No, I didn’t!
"Your... Majesty."
"Hahaha, you look quite famished, did you not eat well on your way here? It’s almost lunchtime. You can stay and have lunch with me, and tell me about that dragon incident.
"By the way, did you just meet with Queen Heloise? Whatever bad things she said about me in front of you, don’t believe her.
"That woman’s head isn’t quite right; all she ever thinks about is fiddling with her broken flowers, always talking about ’art, art, art.’ I don’t know if all elves are like that.
"I was deceived by her face. Had I known it would be like this, I never would have married her."
"Not at all, Queen Heloise told me you were very brave when you went hunting." After speaking, the Lady realized the Emperor was staring straight at her.
"Did that woman really say that to you?"
"Indeed."
"You’re lying. Every time I go hunting and ask her to accompany me, she makes up all sorts of excuses, like how elves are children of the forest and can’t bear to see the forest bleed, and all that nonsense. Yet, I never saw her eat one bite less of the wild boar meat I bring back.
"Let’s not talk about that party pooper of a woman anymore," Edward II waved his hand.
"I heard you brought a gift for me?"
"Yes, Your Majesty, you gave me your sword as a present, so I brought you some local products from the West as well."
"Oh, bring it here for me to see."
While speaking, the Emperor walked to the door and shouted, "Where is everyone? Bring over Sir Irelia’s gift."
"Your Majesty, we have not yet inspected the box," an Imperial Guard said.
"What’s there to inspect? Sir Irelia is a hero of the Empire, not some suspicious person. Hurry up and bring the stuff over."
Within a moment, the two boxes that the Lady had brought were placed before Edward II. One was noticeably smaller, carried by a single Imperial Guard, while the other was much larger, requiring six men to lift.
The Lady opened the smaller of the boxes first, retrieving a stack of white paper, "This is Double Rest... um, the hottest-selling item in my territory currently."
"Is this paper?" Edward II took it and played with it for a while, quickly noticing how unusual it was.
"Such sturdy papyrus?"
"No, our... we used a new formula and technology that allow this paper to last longer and be repeatedly folded for easy carrying."
"Interesting," commented the Emperor. "If it really works, I’ll send someone to buy more from your territory."
He seemed to have some interest in the white paper in his hands, but not much.
The first gift was, after all, just an appetizer, mainly brought by Irelia to help the Double Rest Sect break into the Royal Capital market.
Although Li Yu’s paper was selling well in the West without difficulty, it is always good to plan ahead, especially since securing the endorsement of the current Emperor would prevent others in the Royal Capital from coveting this industry.
Seeing that her objective had been achieved, the Lady quickly opened the second box.
However, upon seeing the contents inside, Edward II’s eyes lit up instantly, and his breathing became rapid, "This is..."
"The skull of the Black Dragon. I brought it from the West to present to you!"
"Good, good, good, good, good!" The Emperor said ’good’ five times in a row before circling around the massive dragon skull.
He knocked on the dragon bone and said, "What a fierce beast, such hardness in its bones, such ferocious fangs, it must have been extremely vicious in life, definitely one of the top predators on this Continent.
"Heloise, that foolish woman, what does she know? This is a fucking work of art, a unique piece of art, something every outstanding hunter wants to challenge!"
Edward caressed the dragon’s skull, his face revealing a look of intoxication.
A moment later, he opened his eyes, his gaze intense as he looked towards the Lady.
"And you, my Knight, you’ve achieved what no one else has. I can hardly wait to see you show off your skills at the martial contest."
"Uh..." Miss Rabbit felt that she couldn’t drag this out any longer, or the misunderstanding would only deepen.
So she plucked up her courage and said, "Your Majesty, I need to clarify something for you."
"What is it?"
"I am not as formidable as you imagine. In fact, that night we had quite a few people with us to kill that dragon.
"Apart from the warriors of the Arias family, there was also the help of Sir Ferdinand from the Batoris family, and more importantly, we had some special... assistance."
"I didn’t contribute that much myself, playing more of a commander’s role and joining everyone in the charge only at the end."
The Lady went on without taking a breath, feeling relieved.
Many things are like this, causing constant worry when kept inside; speaking out can bring relief.
And most importantly, no need to be on tenterhooks anymore.
The worst possibility was merely losing her knighthood, and Miss Rabbit also had the precious sword Emperor Edward II had awarded her on her, ready to take it off and return it to Edward II.
Unexpectedly, after a long pause, he spoke again, "Modesty is one of the important virtues of a Knight. Worthy of the one I’ve chosen, truly talented and virtuous, you’ve done well, Irelia, really well."
The Emperor patted the Lady’s shoulder in appreciation.
"A true hero should be like this, willing to share the honor with others, yet unhesitatingly stepping forward and saving the day when crisis strikes."
The Lady was taken aback, almost blurting out, Didn’t you hear what I just said?
Edward II later winked at the girl, as if to say, how could you possibly think you could fool me.
Seeing Irelia still somewhat bewildered, the Emperor decided to give her a little reminder, "Yesterday afternoon, outside the camp of the Second Knight Corps, did you by any chance encounter three young men who were blind to their own faults?"
"Ah?!"
"Those damned brats really needed a thrashing, each one arrogant because of their background, too full of themselves. But to be fair, they do have some actual skills.
"The training of the Royal Knight Order is very strict, even if some people get in because of their family’s influence, they can’t last more than a few days. Anyone who completes the training isn’t weak, and remember, there were three of them."
"But I didn’t fight three of them," Irelia blurted out.
"Because the other two ran away. I know all about it," Edward II said proudly, "Though I rarely leave Junlin Tower, nothing outside escapes my ears."
"They said it took you only a few breaths to subdue the first challenger, making him kneel and beg for mercy. You’re more formidable than I imagined."
"No, I didn’t!" Miss Rabbit was so anxious she was almost jumping up and down.
"Hey, Sir Irelia, a little modesty is enough, there’s no one else around. Who are you performing for? We’re martial artists, don’t talk in riddles like those scholars and poets, it’s pointless."
