Chapter 473: Chapter 91 Warning
After establishing the Red Lion Empire, Alessandro included all of Red Plain into the King’s Domain as compensation for the Coburg Family, His Majesty granted a large piece of fertile land to his father-in-law in the south.
At the same time, he also allowed the Coburg Family to retain their most ancient castle, as the ancestors of the Coburg Family rest there.
Ireya recollected the recent history of the Empire that she had crammed just a short while ago while curiously surveying her surroundings from atop her horse.
It must be said that the people living on the Red Plain seemed generally wealthier than those from other areas; even the farmers wore new clothing.
And with the Emperor’s recent reopening of the grand martial tournament, King’s Avenue was filled with people headed in the direction of Lion Heart Castle, just like the Lady herself.
Among them were burly warriors with robust muscles, carrying all kinds of bizarre weapons. There were also merchants dressed in luxurious silk from head to toe, exuding the scent of money from every pore.
They were often accompanied by beautiful, seductive dancing girls.
In addition, there were minstrels, including some moderately famous ones who triggered exclamations of recognition, noble carriages flying various flags...
But with the Lady’s appearance, everyone’s gaze involuntarily concentrated on her.
It couldn’t be helped; the troupe following her was simply too eye-catching.
Lately, King’s Avenue had been busy with constant traffic, but no one had seen such a large crowd at once before.
That dense mass of people stretched as far as the eye could see, at least a few thousand strong, completely jamming King’s Avenue which normally accommodated four carriages abreast.
And it was a mixed bag of sorts: mercenaries, civilians, nobles... You name it, they had it. These people, who under normal circumstances wouldn’t intersect, were now all gathered together.
Miss Rabbit had been ogled along the way and was already numb to it until a group of cavalry, numbering over a hundred, approached from the front.
Embroidered on their cloaks was a shield with two crossed blades behind it—Ireya recognized it as the emblem of the Royal Knight Order.
"Whose troops are these?"
The leading knight had a pair of brown round ears and a long nose. The Lady felt somewhat familiar with him, feeling as though she had seen him somewhere.
A moment later, Ireya remembered that after she had left Rock Snow City, her stepmother Vanessa had once sent a group of mercenaries to find him, and the leader’s nickname seemed to be called Honey Bear, resembling the knight before her.
Clearly, they were from the same family.
"I am the Family Head of the Arias Family, daughter of Blood-eyed Ruse from Green Field, Ireya." The Lady replied.
"I am Steve of the Boleslaw Family, son of Duncan with the Oak Sword, and the leader of the sixth subdivision of the Empire First Knight Order." The newcomer introduced himself.
He paused before continuing, "We received a report of a strange army appearing on King’s Avenue, and for the safety of Lion Heart Castle, we must ask you to stop here."
"But the Emperor himself has requested my presence in the city for the grand martial tournament," Miss Rabbit brought out her shield.
Steve patiently explained, "Of course you can go to the Royal Capital, but you can’t bring so many followers."
"They are not my followers." The Lady shook her head, "Sir Steve, can’t you see that the majority here are civilians?"
"Civilians?" Steve was startled, he looked behind Ireya, and indeed, aside from a few noble guards, the rest were almost entirely civilians.
"Why are there so many civilians following you?"
"They are not following me, they are following Merlin."
"Merlin, who is that?"
"The Prophet of the Double Rest Sect, the spokesperson in the mortal world on Saturdays."
"Well, I don’t care who he is, just make him take these people away quickly."
"Unfortunately, he is not here right now."
"Then where is he, didn’t you say that all these people were following him?"
"Merlin is currently on vacation in the Divine Country, his next descent will be in two days. Moreover," the Lady said, "as you can see, these people are merely civilians, and His Majesty has not prohibited civilians from going to the Royal Capital, has he?"
"This..." Sir Steve thought for a moment, "It seems there is no such decree."
"Then why do you want to drive them away?"
"Because they have all gathered together."
"As I said before, they’re just following Merlin. Merlin has removed, or is removing, the curses from them. Even if I were to drive them now, they wouldn’t leave."
"Indeed, I can attest to that." Wild, standing by, interjected, "I am Wild, the Family Head of the Singleton Family from Fertile Corner, Merlin the Prophet performed a miracle, saving my granddaughter."
"Me too."
"I can attest as well." Treger and Rogers also agreed, "The Divine Power of Prophet Merlin is unparalleled, the likes of which I’ve seen only once in my life."
"You had better not say such things before His Majesty," Sir Steve said, "he now believes in no god other than the Life Goddess. However..."
The commander changed the subject, "Since these people are following Merlin voluntarily, I can’t forcibly split them up."
Having said this, he turned to the Lady, "I’m just giving you a suggestion; you could well advise Prophet Merlin to take his followers back home."
"Why?"
"Because he will surely find no favor in the Royal Capital, the Priest of Cornelia will teach him a lesson."
"Merlin won’t turn back on the way because I am going to the Royal Capital, and he will surely accompany me."
"I have kindly advised you, if you don’t listen then just keep going forward," Sir Steve said, "just make sure you don’t regret it later."
"Thank you for your concern," Ireya said with neither servility nor haughtiness.
Sir Steve nodded slightly, then led his men away.
His arrival was swift, and his departure even swifter, without dragging his feet.
And the Lady continued leading her people forward.
By dusk, the troop camped by the roadside to rest, and by then, Lion Heart Castle was just over two days away.
Ireya could almost see the towering white walls of the Royal Capital. She slept in her tent overnight and upon waking early the next morning, felt a bit of stiffness in her neck, like something had pinched her.
The Lady instinctively reached under her pillow and actually felt something there.
It was a wooden carving, depicting a nursing woman wearing a crown made of thorns, with a red snake wrapped around her chest.
Miss Rabbit was stunned for a few seconds, then suddenly her face changed, and she threw away the wood carving.
