Chapter 456: Chapter 74: Wild’s Recompense [Thanks to the Alliance Hierarch Progressive Construction Boots]

This is troublesome, Wild thought, stroking his beard.

He knew there wasn’t much hope of keeping Li Yu behind, but he could not bear to just watch this heathen, who could save his granddaughter, leave Fertile Corner.

Even though Priest Helbert had been speaking ill of Li Yu in his presence all these days. But Wild was only rough in appearance and not foolish at heart, naturally understanding why the old man spoke so.

In fact, the more agitated and earnest Priest Helbert became, the more it proved that Li Yu was genuinely capable.

Otherwise, the Earth and Grain Church would not be so anxious, fearing that if this heathen stayed a few more days in Fertile Corner, they would follow in the footsteps of the Silver Moon Church.

Priest Helbert had definitely set his mind on driving Li Yu away, and Wild even received news that the old priest had already started preaching all over the city in the past two days.

It seemed that if Wild’s side continued to disregard his advice, Helbert was ready to bypass him, the City Lord, and directly incite the believers to throw stones outside the inn where Ireya and others were staying.

At this thought, Lord Greymane suddenly paused, feeling as though he had grasped something.

After waiting for a while, seeing that the head of the Singleton family had not yet spoken, Ireya said directly, "Lord Greymane, we came to bid farewell, not to seek your approval."

"I know, I know," Wild said, "I’m not stopping you from leaving."

As soon as he said this, Priest Helbert beside him was stunned, hardly believing his ears.

"That couldn’t be better," Ireya said.

"But I hope you can stay half a day longer," Greymane’s eyes shifted as he spoke.

"Stay another half day? That’s possible, but what’s the point?" the Lady asked, puzzled.

"The Singleton family is not ungrateful. Prophet Merlin has lifted the curse from my granddaughter, so please allow me to express my gratitude to you."

Miss Rabbit’s eyes lit up upon hearing this, "Are you planning to use this half day to prepare a thank-you gift for us?"

"Exactly."

"How embarrassing," the Lady said, though her face was already blooming with joy.

"No, no, this is only what I ought to do," Wild said with a beaming smile.

"Alright, then we will wait another half day," Miss Rabbit declared, hinting at the same time, "And... don’t put too much Gold."

"Certainly not."

"Hmm?"

"Don’t worry, it will definitely satisfy you."

Half a day later, the Lady did not receive the eagerly anticipated gold, but instead saw a troop of fully armed cavalry on the long street outside the inn.

And leading them was none other than Wild, the Lord of Fertile Corner.

Wild rode a chestnut horse nearly as tall as himself, his whole body encased in armor.

The large War Axe hanging at his waist emitted a chilling gleam, and paired with his imposing visage, it was enough to instill fear in any adversary.

Yet, Miss Rabbit, who had not been frightened by the Black Dragon, was hardly intimidated by the head of the Singleton family.

She too donned her Dwarf Armor and stepped out of the inn with Ferdinand and Li Yu, her face darkening as she spoke.

"It seems you intend to repay kindness with malice, Sir Wild."

"You misunderstand me," Wild shook his head, "I, Greymane, keep my word and will certainly repay your kindness."

"How so?"

"I will go with you to the Royal Capital."

???

Miss Rabbit had no idea what kind of madness had taken hold of the City Lord of the Corner of Plenty.

But by now, Li Yu had already realized what Wild was scheming, and this was further confirmed upon seeing Donia riding a small dwarf horse behind Wild.

The idea of the Singleton Family Head was simple: since Li Yu couldn’t be kept back, it would be better to go along with him.

Lord Greymane sneezed proudly and then said, "His Majesty has reopened the tournament, with the Empire’s warriors gathering at Lion Heart Castle. How could we exclude the men of the Singleton Family?"

"You go if you must, but what does this have to do with repaying us?"

"How can it not be related?" Wild said solemnly, "Sir Ireya, since the founding of the Empire a thousand years ago, there have been only three female knights. You are the fourth, a Dragon Slayer Hero personally titled by His Majesty.

"This honor certainly makes you immensely prestigious, but it will inevitably cause many people’s jealousy and dissatisfaction, not to mention that you are also going to participate in the tournament. There will probably be even more people in the Royal Capital waiting to teach you a lesson."

"At this time, you will need a helper to take on those challenges for you."

"I have Ferdinand."

"Then add me as well," Wild said, thumping his chest, "I promise to beat anyone who comes to bother you until they’re crying and running away."

"Really?" Miss Rabbit expressed her doubts.

Not wasting any words, Wild jumped down from his horse, drew the war axe from his waist, and challenged Ferdinand.

"Want to see who’s better? Don’t accuse me of picking on the younger generation—I’ll give you the advantage of using just your left hand."

"That’s fine." The expression on the face of the Batoris Family Head was his usual sternness, showing no emotion.

He took off his cloak and took his two-handed sword from the squire knight.

The two-handed sword used by Ferdinand wasn’t as slender as typical two-handed swords; its blade was quite wide, which meant its weight was particularly astonishing.

Yet, in Ferdinand’s hands, it did not seem clumsy at all. He gripped the hilt in a helical grip, made a step forward with a lifting strike and in the next moment, he had already appeared in front of Wild.

Meanwhile, the City Lord of the Corner of Plenty was still boasting, "You could ask around in Golden Valley. When I was young, there wasn’t a single person within five hundred miles who was my match—ow!"

The last exclamation was because Ferdinand, unexpectedly close, had startled Wild.

The two-handed sword grazed past Wild’s cheek, cutting off a tuft of his beard, and that was only because Wild had reacted quickly enough to dodge.

If he hadn’t, the sword would have slashed open his throat.

Having had a narrow escape from death, Wild didn’t get angry but instead showed a hint of admiration in his eyes, "Goodness, that was a powerful strike!"

Ferdinand did not pursue his advantage but withdrew his sword and asked Wild, "Can you use both hands now?"

"Of course." Wild nodded, graciously retracting his previous words, "I take back what I said earlier, you are a respectable opponent."

Despite being complimented, Ferdinand’s face showed no joy, only propping his sword askew on the ground to warn, "I’m coming again."

As he spoke the final word, he kicked the base of his sword, aiming it toward Wild’s shins. The move was devoid of any fanciness—it was simply fast enough and unexpectedly so.

This time, however, Wild was prepared, and being rather short himself, the sword that advanced towards him was actually at his thigh level.

Wild, undisturbed by the danger, lightly waved his axe to deflect the sword.

Then he took the opportunity to attack towards the exposed chest of Ferdinand!
