Chapter 418: Chapter 36 Cola Bear

The group quickly split into two factions. One faction still firmly believed Li Yu was a scammer and that there was no such thing as reincarnation in this world—the group owner’s body and soul had both thoroughly cooled.

The other faction didn’t quite believe Li Yu either, adopting an ambiguous attitude, thinking that such a possibility couldn’t be completely ruled out, especially since Li Yu had gotten hold of Lu Weijia’s QQ number and the decryption code.

Li Yu quietly watched them argue, without joining in. About ten minutes later, he continued typing.

"Talk is cheap. Why not give it a try yourselves? If you or someone you know is in need of this service, you can come to me. You can even leave a secret signal like Lu Weijia did, to verify its legitimacy."

The group fell quiet once more.

After a long pause, someone said, "What he said really sounds plausible, what to do? I’m kinda tempted, but I’m still in university, and it doesn’t seem like I would die anytime soon. Any of you older brothers nearing the end of your lifespans? Go test the waters for the rest of us."

"How could that be possible? Those who watch the group owner’s videos should be not that old, right? We’re talking maybe in their thirties or forties at most."

"Doesn’t that mean we won’t be able to verify his claims for the next few decades?"

"Hold on, he said something about people around us as well, right? My great-grandfather happens to be ninety-six."

"Too old won’t work either. Let’s tentatively set it below fifty, above eighteen years old," Li Yu added. "I’m not just taking anyone either, there’s an assessment to go through, and you’ll need to work after the transfer. However, conditions can be somewhat relaxed for those with special skills."

"This sounds like a new-age human trafficking scheme," someone remarked.

"But if it’s limited to people between eighteen and fifty, most people in that age range don’t die of natural causes, right?"

"Yeah, maybe we could look for people who’ve died in accidents."

"No way," Li Yu interjected at that moment, "Accidental deaths won’t do, or rather, most won’t do. Only those who have signed a work contract with me in advance will have their souls taken by me to be reincarnated in another world."

"Don’t make the conditions so strict," someone protested.

"Right, right, I remember not long ago a female celebrity from South Korea committed suicide. You could take her to another world," another chimed in.

"Rules are rules," Li Yu replied, "And at this stage, I’m not accepting foreigners."

"So ruthless, but I like it. Please go out with me!" a female member with the ID Cola Bear posted, accompanied by a picture of a big cat hugging a small cat.

"Ah, no, my Cola! Shouldn’t you be loving me instead?" someone wailed.

"Sister Xiao Xiong, you can’t just abandon us like that!"

"Yeah, yeah, we were just helping you rank up in Dota last night. You can’t be so heartless!"

"You call that helping? You were all feeding them kills, unstoppable—I ended up being a support with the highest damage and kill count in the game. Does that make any sense?" Cola Bear exclaimed, getting riled up at the memory.

As the topic diverged further and further from the original discussion, and noticing Soft Mud Monster was DM’ing him, Li Yu decided to close the group chat for now. But just then, he saw a message that caught his eye.

"Sister Xiao Xiong, aren’t you going to sleep? Don’t you have a night shift later?"

"Can’t sleep," replied Cola Bear, "Got up to grab some food and will watch a couple of episodes of The Boys before heading to the hospital."

Li Yu typed, "You work at a hospital, are you a nurse?"

"Doctor," Cola Bear responded, "Ah, it seems I’ve finally caught your interest."

"Which department?"

"Emergency department, but I’m in G city. The group admin said you’ve met him, so you must be in B city now."

"Is it convenient to meet up?"

"You’re just like the man I like, straightforward, but I have to go to work in two hours."

"How about tomorrow, around what time will you be free?"

"Nine o’clock. I finish work at half-past eight, and after handing over duties, it’ll be just about nine. But wouldn’t that be a bit rushed for you?"

"No problem, let’s make it nine o’clock then," Li Yu said. "I’ll head over tonight and find a hotel near your hospital to stay."

Li Yu paused for a moment, then continued, "Is there a coffee shop or restaurant you’re familiar with nearby? We could meet there. If you’re worried, you can also bring a colleague or friend."

"Very considerate, see you tomorrow then," Cola Bear replied. "I’ll send you the hospital’s name privately."

After arranging the time and place to meet with Cola Bear, Li Yu closed the QQ group and looked at the message Soft Mud Monster had sent him.

"Is what you said in the group true?"

Li Yu didn’t answer his question but instead said, "Lu Weijia told me about your sister’s situation, how is she now?"

"Did you just review our previous chat history?"

"No."

While replying, Li Yu opened the Feizhu app and looked for flights from B city to G city. He quickly found one that departed in an hour and forty minutes.

Since he lived in the suburbs, it took less than forty minutes to get to the airport, meaning he had half an hour to pack his bags, which was enough.

Li Yu packed some daily necessities, then noticed a package on the desk. He asked Wang Guowei what was inside and after getting a response, asked if he could borrow it first; he would buy a new one for Wang Guowei later.

Once Wang Guowei agreed, Li Yu stuffed the package into his suitcase as well and glanced at his phone. There were no new messages from Soft Mud Monster.

Since it was past working hours, Li Yu didn’t contact Zhang Yanlin and went out to hail a cab directly to the airport.

About four hours later, Li Yu landed in G city and changed out of the sweater under his suit in the airport bathroom, then took another cab.

It was now dark outside as the taxi passed by. There was no moon tonight, but the stars were quite bright, their light mingling with the neon colors to create a hazy and ambiguous atmosphere over the city.

The time was half-past nine. The taxi passed through the CBD, and Li Yu looked up to see that, just like in B city, many of the rooms were still lit with people moving about.

Li Yu used to be one of them, but now he had escaped that cage.

However, Li Yu didn’t feel too joyful. His current job was certainly the most comfortable one he had had, but there were also many doubts in his heart.

In a sense, he was no different from the silly members of the Lu Weijia fan group; he too was blindfolded, only able to see the parts of the truth that others wanted him to see.

He couldn’t be sure how much of it was real and how much was fake.

At this moment, Li Yu thought of the corporate event happening in two months. According to Xu Mengyuan, not only would he meet the company’s directors there, but he would also see his department colleagues. Perhaps he could gather more information then.
