Chapter 358: Chapter 116 Diodosi’s Gift
Ilkand, having been scolded, realized his behavior had been somewhat impulsive. He snorted and released the housekeeper’s collar.
The latter did not seem to mind much, stepping back half a step with an unchanged expression, "Bria, please take Lord Ilkand to change into a suit for the banquet. It will start soon."
The maid called by name hurried over and led Ilkand away to change out of his knight armor.
Meanwhile, the housekeeper directed the others to begin setting the dining table.
As the richest noble family in the western lands, the Immanuel Family’s dining table cloth was made of silk with gold threads embroidered at the corners, looking quite splendid, but the most eye-catching item was the candelabrum placed at the center of the table.
The candelabrum, about half a meter high, was made of pure gold with gems embedded at the top, which reflected the candlelight even more brilliantly.
However, upon comparing these gems with the one on Miss Rabbit’s brooch, she found that they fell short in size, color, and cutting craftsmanship compared to the one Li Yu had given her.
Moreover, Li Yu had told her that as long as she kept it and did not sell it, she would receive one every year. With that thought, the Lady immediately felt much more balanced in her heart.
Given the Half-Beast’s longevity, as long as she lived a normal life, collecting two or three hundred gems from Li Yu seemed quite feasible.
The young girl was pondering in her heart how to use so many gems—well, she already had a brooch, maybe she could get a few necklaces, a few rings, and ideally adorn all ten fingers, but that would seem a bit too ostentatious... hehehe.
The Lady’s thoughts made her happier and happier, and she couldn’t help laughing out loud, but the next moment, a voice reached her ears.
"Sir Irelia, I apologize for the embarrassment."
The speaker was the person who had earlier chided Ilkand and had come to the housekeeper’s defense.
He was the eldest and most composed of the three, always carrying himself with manners and politeness.
"It’s not that, I wasn’t laughing at you, don’t get me wrong," Miss Rabbit quickly came to her senses and immediately resorted to a triple denial.
She paused and then added, "I just suddenly recalled something delightful... You don’t need to mind me and Merlin, that man called Ilkand was right, we are outsiders and will not get involved in the affairs of the Immanuel Family."
The man sighed, "Well, no matter what, I must apologize to you and Prophet Merlin for my brother’s earlier rude words. He actually has a good heart, just that he has been impetuous since childhood and sometimes speaks without thinking, not intending to target anyone specifically."
"Mm, it’s no big deal on my part, but it was indeed a bit too much when he laid hands on that housekeeper earlier."
"Yes, indeed. Miss Galin has served the family for over ten years, and my father has always trusted her implicitly, treating her as his right-hand person, and even personally teaching her how to handle state affairs... That’s a treatment none of us three brothers have received.
"Ilkand might be somewhat jealous of her, but the main reason is probably that ever since our father was sneak attacked and injured by that detestable Black Dragon, he has stayed in Black Stone City to recuperate, and except for Miss Galin and the four maids attending to him, no one else has seen him.
"We brothers have tried to see our father several times but have been denied, which naturally worries us."
"That’s understandable."
"It’s good that you understand. Oh, I realize I haven’t introduced myself yet; I am Harman, the eldest son of Lord Diodosi. Miss Galin mentioned that you and Prophet Merlin were invited by my father, so have you met him by any chance?"
"No," Miss Rabbit shook her head, "We only saw Miss Galin, but rest assured, our business here has nothing to do with you three brothers."
"Is that so?" Harman was skeptical upon hearing this but didn’t say anything else, because at that moment Ilkand had already changed and come out.
Meanwhile, the housekeeper had also finished setting the dinner table.
Everyone took their seats in turn, leaving the seat of honor at the head of the table empty. Just as they sat down, Ilkand began to clamor, "Where is Father? Didn’t you say that Father would appear when the dinner starts? Why don’t I see him?"
"I believe I said that you would see your father at the dinner, not that Lord Diodosi would immediately appear as soon as it began," the housekeeper replied evenly.
"Playing word games, huh!" Ilkand muttered.
This time, even the previously somewhat silent young man could not help but speak up, "Miss Galin, why do you insist on dragging us along? Our request has always been simple, just to see Father once."
"I understand, and I can fully sympathize with your eagerness to meet Lord Diodosi. However, these are Lord Diodosi’s orders, Lord Rafael, I hope you can understand."
Before the housekeeper could finish speaking, Ilkand had already drawn the sword at his waist and thrust it into the table.
"Don’t waste words with her, let’s go straight upstairs and search everywhere. We’re bound to find Father, this mansion belongs to the Immanuel Family, I want to see who dares to stop us three here."
"This..." Harman hesitated.
Rafael had already stood up.
Just then, the housekeeper’s voice rang out again, "Starting now, anyone who leaves this table will automatically forfeit their right to inheritance."
Rafael hesitated for a moment but eventually sat back down, and Harman was even less willing to raise his behind from the chair.
Seeing that his brothers had changed their attitudes, Ilkand had no choice but to look at the housekeeper and sneer, "Now you’re bringing inheritance rights into this. Fine, I’m curious to see how you plan to end this evening."
The housekeeper remained unmoved, as if she hadn’t heard Ilkand’s threat at all.
She looked around, "Since no one wishes to leave, then the dinner can begin. However, before that, there is one last matter. Sir Irelia, Prophet Merlin, Lord Diodosi has asked me to thank you both again for taking the time to come to the banquet.
"In addition to the Iron Thorns Seeds you requested earlier, Lord Diodosi insists on giving the gifts he had prepared in advance to both of you."
At first, Miss Rabbit thought the gift the housekeeper mentioned was money.
Thinking to herself that with the astonishing wealth of the Immanuel Family, they couldn’t be too stingy, surely a few gold coins, perhaps ten or so, would suffice to dismiss them.
At the very least, it should be upwards of a hundred gold coins.
If they could make a quick hundred or two hundred Gold Coins just by running back and forth, then the Lady could keep going non-stop, running the Immanuel Family into bankruptcy!
Yet to her disappointment, the housekeeper didn’t have anyone bring out any large chests stuffed with gold coins but instead presented a piece of parchment with both hands to Li Yu and Irelia.
