Chapter 297: Chapter 55: Hire an Administrator
Li Yu glanced at the billboard hanging on the outer wall—Feike Media.
It must have been left by the company that had rented here before.
Through the glass windows, he could see inside was empty, all the furniture was moved out, only some immovable fixtures and an office chair were left behind.
Then Li Yu inserted the key into the lock, turned it gently, and opened the front door.
Perhaps because Xu Mengyuan had just led a team to renovate this place recently, the smell of formaldehyde was rather strong, so the first thing Li Yu did was to open all the windows.
Seeing the sun was about to set, he found the electrical panel and pushed up the air switch inside.
Li Yu was lucky, the previous company had left him two LED lights, and one of them lit up as soon as he flipped the switch.
Afterward, he found a note left by the HR lady on the seat of the office chair that had lost an armrest.
In the note, Xu Mengyuan mentioned two main things, the first was to inform Li Yu that the Third Era had bought building number 142, so from now on he could decorate as he pleased, in whatever style he liked, except for the room at the far east of the second floor.
That place was already renovated, turned into a sub-image of room number eight, and in the future, Li Yu could travel to another dimension through that room.
The second matter concerned hiring new employees; according to Xu Mengyuan, normally the company wouldn’t interfere with Li Yu’s hiring process. Once Li Yu identified suitable candidates, he just needed to submit their details on the OA system, and it was mostly approved. Human Resources wouldn’t block appointments based on education, age, or experience...
The company would also establish personnel files for newcomers and pay their salaries, but that’s where its regular corporate services ended. The company’s promotion system and equipment system and other special systems wouldn’t be accessible to newcomers.
Moreover, the initial salary for new employees was only a third of what Li Yu made. Social insurance and housing funds were provided as usual, but project bonuses were completely cut.
New employees also couldn’t use the sub-image of room number eight; in other words, they could only work for Li Yu in this universe. But once they joined the company, Li Yu could share some of the work with them without triggering any confidentiality clauses.
However, new employees could not spread this information further, and if the project manager was unable to perform his duties for any reason, the company would dismiss them along with the manager.
Li Yu quietly read through the content of the note.
This so-called project department was built entirely around him; he was to select the employees, their salaries were tied to his, and if he quit, the department would dissolve and the other employees would be out of a job.
Li Yu took a deep breath and flipped the note over.
There was actually another message on the back.
—A little advice, hire an administrator first.
Actually, Li Yu had the same thought without needing Xu Mengyuan’s reminder, because just setting up such a large office building was no easy task.
Decorations were indeed a cumbersome affair, and with countless pitfalls. Li Yu also had to deal with issues from the Double Rest Sect, so he couldn’t spare much effort here.
However, recruitment also took time, and finding the right person would not be easy. Not to mention that they’d have to oversee a renovation worth 1.2 million upon joining, Li Yu did not trust someone he had only just met with such a responsibility.
Thus, after thinking it over, Li Yu took out his phone and dialed a number from his contacts.
Yet, after about four or five seconds of ringing, it was hung up.
Li Yu was not in a hurry. He first went to the second floor to check out the room Xu Mengyuan mentioned, then he went up to the rooftop terrace.
He had just started enjoying the evening breeze when the phone rang again. From the other end came Zhang Yanlin’s apologetic voice.
"I was just having dinner; my dad is quite old-fashioned and doesn’t allow me to touch my cell phone during meals. By the way, did you need something?"
"Ah, it’s nothing major, just wondering how your job search was going," Li Yu said.
Li Yu heard the sound of a door being opened from the other side of the phone, apparently followed by an ice cream cone.
"Oh, I’ve received two offers, but I’m still interviewing...haven’t made a final decision," Zhang Yanlin said, seemingly realizing something, first told the ice cream cone not to run too fast, then continued, "Is there any chance there on your side?"
"There is one, didn’t you ask me last time if the company I work for is hiring? They’ve indeed opened up a position recently."
"Really? That’s great! Can you refer me?"
"Don’t get too excited yet. The salary might not be very high; it’s just over eight thousand for someone just starting..."
"Eight thousand is still not bad," Zhang Yanlin asked as he went downstairs, "Is there social insurance?"
"Yes, full benefits, nine to five, weekends off, no overtime."
"Wow, that’s quite appealing," Zhang Yanlin said. "The two jobs I’m looking at are about the same salary. After all, I only have a few months of work experience, and I’ve been unemployed for over a year. I’d actually be suspicious if they suddenly offered me a salary over ten thousand."
Zhang Yanlin opened his apartment door, and the eagerly waiting golden retriever immediately dashed out, then he continued to inquire, "What’s the role?"
"Administrator."
Zhang Yanlin was silent for a few seconds upon hearing this, then Li Yu’s voice came through from the other end of the phone, "Don’t force yourself. If you don’t want to do administrative work, you can..."
"I want to try." Zhang Yanlin said, "It’s just that I’m not sure if I can get the offer. How about it, do you know the HR people well? Can you check how many resumes they have, if there’s any strong competition?"
"No, there’s only you as a candidate."
"Hmm?"
"The hiring is actually for my project group, so... it’s really up to me."
"How long have you been in the job to have become the project manager already?" Zhang Yanlin took a deep breath, "What kind of promotion speed is that?"
"Currently, the project group only consists of me. If you decide to come over, then it would be two of us."
"Ah!"
Sounds of clicking and clattering came from Zhang Yanlin’s side, as if her phone had slipped from her hand nearly crashing to the ground. After a while, she brought the phone back to her face, hearing Li Yu’s voice,
"Anyway... that’s roughly the situation. You can think it over, and compare it with the other two offers you have."
"No need to compare—when can I start? Then we can be... colleagues again." Zhang Yanlin cut off Li Yu’s words.
"If you’ve already decided, then join as soon as possible. I happen to have work for you here," Li Yu said.
"Then I’m coming over now," Zhang Yanlin said, "Since I need to walk the dog anyway."
