Chapter 261: Chapter 19: Seeing Ghosts
Li Yu began to feel that Marquis Kuren’s suggestion to practice swordsmanship wasn’t completely without merit.
Even in civilized society, there still arose occasions when the use of force was necessary.
Li Yu planned to seek out Jude in Bratis after returning to improve his combat skills, so that he wouldn’t struggle so much if a similar situation arose again.
As he was thinking, the sounds of beep beep beep from pressing buttons suddenly reached his ears.
Li Yu opened his eyes and noticed that a figure had appeared in front of him at some point—the same disheveled-haired middle school girl with headphones he had just seen.
In a fluster, she dialed the emergency number for an ambulance, "Hello, is this 120? There’s someone here with serious injuries, the location is..."
"Hang up the phone, I’m fine," Li Yu interjected.
"How could you possibly be fine, mister?"
"Hang up the phone."
After hesitating for a moment, the middle school girl was ultimately convinced by Li Yu.
Li Yu had been on a Missionary trip in Green Field for some time, gathering up thousands of followers, and when he was serious, he naturally exuded a convincing aura.
The middle school girl hung up the phone but still worried, "Then let me call you a taxi to the hospital."
"No need, that’s too much trouble," Li Yu refused, "I’ll be fine after I sleep for a bit. Go help me push that trash can over here to block me, so that passersby don’t see me. Be careful, there’s a phone on top of it."
The middle school girl did as Li Yu requested, pushing the trash can over to him, then found several trash bags and piled them on top of Li Yu. Throughout the process, she kept her face turned away, not daring to look at the wounds on Li Yu’s body that were still spurting out blood.
After she had done all this and looked back at Li Yu’s face, she found that his eyes were already closed.
A sense of foreboding suddenly arose in the middle school girl’s heart. She squatted down and tremulously reached out a finger towards Li Yu’s nose.
But just as she was halfway through her gesture, Li Yu’s voice rang out again, "Can you stuff the phone on top of the garbage can into my suit pocket? Afterwards, you can go home. Don’t worry, my phone has been recording the whole time. Even if I die, you won’t be implicated."
Upon hearing this, the middle school girl did as told, then stood up and stepped back two paces, intending to leave the place.
Unexpectedly, Li Yu spoke up again, "Oh, there’s one more thing."
"What is it?"
"Return the item you stole from the convenience store tomorrow."
"You’re dying, mister. Why do you care about that sort of thing?"
"You’re young, don’t give up on yourself so soon."
"The reason you’re dying is because you meddle too much."
"I will not die," Li Yu calmly stated.
"I’m only a middle school student, but I’m not without common sense. You’re not Wolverine, mister. Losing so much blood and not going to the hospital, you’re definitely going to die."
"I will not die," Li Yu paused, "How about we make a bet? If I don’t die, you’ll return the things you stole tonight to the convenience store tomorrow."
"Why should I make such a bet with you?"
"If you win, I’ll give you a hundred bucks."
"If you’re dead, how are you going to give me the money?"
"You can go find a person named Wang Guowei, he’s my roommate. He can pay you for me. If he doesn’t pay, just tell him ’3624’."
"What does that mean?"
"It’s a sad story, and children shouldn’t ask too many questions. Off you go."
Li Yu said and then closed his eyes.
After the assassination attempt, what he wanted to do most was to stab himself a couple more times, because the pain was just too much. Unfortunately, he did not have the necessary tools on him to end his life.
The junior high school girl had already done quite a lot for him, and Li Yu felt embarrassed to ask her to find a knife. Moreover, even if he really asked her, it was highly likely that the girl would not accept such an abnormal task.
Speaking of which, the fact that she could arrive in such a short period probably meant she had witnessed what happened before, and compared to a typical junior high student, her behavior could be described as very mature—not just mature, but unnaturally so.
Li Yu suddenly became curious about her family background, and, he realized, he had forgotten to ask her name.
Li Yu tried to keep his brain active, to distract his attention from the pain as much as possible. Eventually, his consciousness began to blur until it sank into darkness.
Chasing after a distant light, Li Yu arrived in front of the maze once again.
This time, the game was—Tetris.
As a child, Tetris was the game Li Yu played the most; on the handheld console, he had reached quite a high score.
Looking up at the numbers above the iron gate, he felt it wasn’t too difficult.
In the end, it took him only two attempts to breeze through the level.
Once again, he opened his eyes.
Li Yu pushed off the garbage bags that were on top of him and stood up from the ground, rotating his wrists and ankles.
He then lifted his shirt, and although his dress shirt and trousers were covered in blood, there was not a single wound on his skin underneath.
Next, Li Yu checked his suit pocket; his phone and change were still there.
He unlocked his phone with facial recognition and first checked the time—it was 8:57 PM. Not bad, he had revived in less than forty minutes this time.
Then, Li Yu checked the video he had just finished recording on his phone, trying to cover the bloodstains on his chest with his blazer.
Fortunately, it was dark outside, and as long as he didn’t step into the light, he shouldn’t attract too much attention.
The smell of the trash bin was quite strong, so Li Yu did not linger any longer and started walking towards his residential area.
However, as soon as he walked out of the alley, he saw the junior high school girl again. "Why haven’t you gone home yet?" he asked.
The girl didn’t answer. Instead, she squatted by the wall, mouth agape, staring at Li Yu with a face full of shock.
"I won. Remember to return the items tomorrow," Li Yu reminded her.
"How is this possible?" the junior high school girl said, "You were clearly so badly injured just now; how could you possibly be standing up so soon?"
"I told you, didn’t I? A good sleep and I’ll be fine."
"That wasn’t sleeping; you were dead, okay? I came back earlier and you weren’t breathing nor had a heartbeat," the girl stood up and took two cautious steps back, "So, are you a ghost now?"
"What would you do if I were a ghost?" Li Yu asked in return.
"Nothing, it doesn’t matter to me if you’re a human or a ghost, I can’t beat you either way," the girl clenched her fist and then relaxed it.
"Fair point."
After saying that, Li Yu continued walking, and after about twenty meters, the junior high school girl also started moving, putting on her headphones and following behind Li Yu.
Not until Li Yu arrived at the entrance of the residential complex and turned around did he notice the junior high school girl was still standing about twenty meters away, seemingly careful in observing whether he was a man or a ghost.
