Chapter 249: Chapter 7 Let Me Go

Although Li Yu was riding a horse, his speed was not fast; on the other hand, Anton, having long legs, could run twice the distance of an ordinary person in a single stride.

However, as a clerical staff member, his physical stamina was a weak point. He had run less than half a mile before he began to gasp for air heavily, and even this was thanks to his innate physical talents as a Half-Beast. Ultimately, he could only watch helplessly as Li Yu and that guard, a Black Hound, got farther and farther away.

Just when the Universal Language teacher thought he was going to lose them, unexpectedly, the guard turned back toward him.

Anton was initially relieved, but soon became vigilant. He noticed that there were no other people around him. In other words, if Li Yu found him disagreeable, it would be easy to have him killed right there without anyone to save him.

As for why Li Yu would find him disagreeable, wasn’t that obvious!

Anton was aware that his efforts over this period had caused quite a bit of trouble for Li Yu and the Double Rest Sect. He must have become a thorn in Li Yu’s side, an irritating presence he wished he could get rid of.

The Universal Language teacher now regretted his carelessness and had underestimated these heathens’ brutality. He thought of running away, but he was too exhausted and knew his two legs could not outrun four.

So, he simply stood there, head held high, chest out, assuming a pose of noble self-sacrifice, glaring at the enemy approaching him!

Anton thought to himself that if he were to die, and his blood could awaken those misguided followers to recognize the true face of these heathens, then it would not be in vain.

The result was that when the guard came up to him, he did not draw the sword at his waist to strike him down but rather spoke in a babble and gestured toward his own horseback, then pointed ahead at Li Yu.

The Universal Language teacher couldn’t understand what the other was saying exactly; he could only maintain his brave appearance. The guard seemed to get impatient, for the next moment, he reached out and grabbed Anton.

At this point, the Universal Language teacher was also struggling with all his might.

Li Yu watched this scene and felt it slightly familiar; wasn’t this like the famous ’You Let Me Go’ painting from the internet?

Facing a common human who was half a head shorter than himself, Anton, unsurprisingly, ended up being pulled onto the horseback by the guard and was brought before Li Yu.

The Universal Language teacher saw Li Yu’s face change slightly, but he immediately shouted angrily, "If you’re going to kill me, just do it quickly. Why let your henchman humiliate me!"

"Why would I want to kill you?" Li Yu asked.

"Then why are you holding me captive?"

Li Yu said, surprised, "Weren’t you chasing after me? I saw you running so desperately; I thought you had some urgent matter. If you have nothing urgent, then get off the horse. I actually have an urgent matter to attend to on my side."

As Li Yu finished speaking, the guard also released his hold on Anton.

The Universal Language teacher, having escaped death, was about to run away, but then he remembered the sacred mission he carried. Hearing Li Yu mention his urgent matter, he became curious and tentatively asked, "What is the urgent matter?"

"Two Sabbaths have gone missing. I need to go to the place where they disappeared to check it out." Li Yu didn’t hide the truth.

"Can I come with you?" Anton asked brazenly.

"You can, but it might be dangerous."

The Universal Language teacher hesitated upon hearing this, but ultimately his loyalty to the goddess surpassed his underlying fear, and he spoke, "I’m not afraid of any danger."

"Alright then, let’s set off."

Li Yu had the guard lead the way, and soon the three of them arrived outside a small village.

The village was located in the southern part of Green Field, at the boundary between the Arias and Pope families.

It was said that previously this land belonged to the Arias family, but with Ruse’s sudden death and while the Arias family was still headless and incessantly squabbling over who the next Family Head should be, the Pope Family stealthily redrew the boundary to include this village on their side and even stationed a small troop there.

However, as Ireya successfully slain a dragon, that troop from the Pope family quietly withdrew.

The village once again fell under Miss Rabbit’s control, but the young girl had not yet had the chance to send troops back.

Li Yu waited a while in front of the village, until another squad of Black Hound guards arrived, led by Tom, who was originally a mercenary in Black Stone City. He came to Green Field to watch the excitement but ended up meeting Li Yu who offered a cure for his hair problems.

However, the treatment might take a long time, so Tom decided to stay.

After living for a while in the territory of the Double Rest Sect, he was thoroughly captivated by the clean and tidy environment and the vibrant atmosphere, and he simply joined the Double Rest Sect and even participated in the later Dragon Slaying battle.

Though Tom was known as ’Funny Tom’ and liked to make cheeky remarks, his skills were quite impressive. He might not match Jude, but he could hold his own against the elite warriors of the Arias family, even gaining a slight upper hand.

And unlike the lizard people, he didn’t need much time to adapt after donning armor forged by Dwarves, which significantly boosted his strength, allowing him to easily defeat competing lizard warriors and become the squad leader.

More importantly, after several months of treatment his hair loss had finally stopped, and there were even signs of it becoming denser. Moreover, while taking finasteride, he hadn’t experienced any adverse effects so far.

Thrilled beyond measure, Tom grew increasingly devoted to Sabbath, and now he had become as much a fanatic of the Double Rest Sect as those lizard people.

For safety, upon receiving news of missing Sabbaths, Li Yu asked Onund to send a squad of warriors to help investigate, and this squad was led by Tom.

Li Yu greeted Tom and, to avoid startling the villagers, he did not let the squad of guards swarm into the village but only allowed Tom to bring two people, along with the guard who came to report and Anton who insisted on joining in the excitement.

The six of them walked into the village together while the others waited outside.

This small village was not much different from most in the western territories; the villagers lived in longhouses made of straw, surrounded by strips of cultivated land each about twenty meters long without fences, often just demarcated by a few stones, and there were several wells in the village.

A slightly imposing stone house, resembling a small fortress, probably intended for the guards, but now everyone there had withdrawn.

A common mucky road connected this village to the outside world, but in the current season, the road had frozen solid.

All in all, the scene didn’t look like it posed any danger.

Tom knocked on the door of a house, and soon after, a peasant woman opened the door.
