Chapter 220: Chapter 68 Meeting
When Ireya first arrived at Rock Snow City, she was quite excited, especially after encountering the welcoming party of nobles and hundreds of citizens outside the city, her vanity was greatly satisfied.
With everyone calling her the Dragon Slayer Heroine, Miss Rabbit’s glory was boundless.
Seeing those once high and mighty figures now treating her with such courteousness, the young girl felt as if she had become one of them.
She had achieved what generations of family heads of the Arias family had not, breaking into the top power circle of the West, and now everyone was revolving around her.
It must be said that those were indeed very happy days.
The largest and liveliest city in the West had opened its arms to her completely, yet as the initial novelty began to fade, the girl realized she was not as excited as she had been at the beginning.
Especially when she noticed that everyone here was wearing a mask, and no matter how long people interacted, it was very hard to see sincerity, Miss Rabbit suddenly started to miss her little castle.
Though remote and quiet, with nothing much but carrots, the people there were mostly straightforward and didn’t play so many mind games.
Then the girl found herself feeling homesick.
Though she had only been in Rock Snow City for a few days, her heart had already drifted back to Green Field.
Miss Rabbit made up her mind that as soon as her father’s affairs were settled, she would immediately set off to return to Teacup Castle.
Maybe she could even make it back for the first big snowfall of winter, and she could invite Li Yu to enjoy the snow while sipping carrot soup.
Thinking about this, the girl had already arrived outside the Grizzly Bear Tavern with Li Yu.
Ireya was still a bit nervous, not just because she was about to meet the suspect of her father’s murder, but also because there were undercover agents of David in the tavern.
For instance, the limping manservant wiping tables with a dirty rag right now, the bearded mercenary drinking alone in the corner, and the Dwarf coachman taking care of the guests’ horses outside the tavern, who was the least conspicuous and most easily overlooked.
The girl kept Li Yu’s admonitions in mind, trying not to stare at these people, and acted as if she were just there for a meal at the tavern.
She found an empty table and ordered a pork pie and a mug of malt beer, while Li Yu asked for roasted chicken and a bowl of boiled beans.
No sooner had the two sat down when they were recognized by a patron, a swordsman covered in freckles and short in stature who had not taken his eyes off her since she entered, his face reflecting a thoughtful expression.
After hesitating for a moment, he still approached and politely asked, "Excuse me, are you Miss Ireya?"
The girl appraised the newcomer as well. Hmm, he seemed too young, too short, and most importantly, he lacked triangular ears and amber pupils.
But when he asked his question, the Lady still nodded her head, and the short swordsman exclaimed with joy.
"It really is you! I was at the city gates to greet you when you arrived at Rock Snow City six days ago. I saw you from a distance and never thought I’d encounter you here. May I buy you a drink as thanks for all you’ve done for the West?"
"Um, alright," Ireya replied, not expecting to first encounter a fan of hers.
With the awaited answer, the short swordsman looked very satisfied and did not further disturb their meal, quietly moving aside.
After the false alarm, the girl’s roast pie and Li Yu’s chicken arrived, but the other party for today’s meeting still had not shown up.
As Ireya considered the possibility of Hels standing her up, a cloaked figure, wrapped tightly in their garment, appeared unexpectedly in the Grizzly Bear Tavern.
With his arrival, the temperature in the tavern seemed to drop a few degrees.
Upon entering the tavern, the man didn’t request any drinks, but quickly swept his gaze across the patrons in front of him, finally resting on Miss Rabbit and striding over towards her.
The girl’s heartbeat hammered in sync with the appearance of this mysterious person. Additionally, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the big-bearded mercenary who had been collapsed on the table had opened his eyes, obviously he had also noticed this suspicious fellow.
The cloaked figure then plonked down right in front of the Lady.
The next moment, a voice reached Ireya’s ear, "As you wished, Miss Ireya, I have come for the appointment."
However, the cloaked figure did not open his mouth, the voice came from behind Miss Rabbit, and the girl was about to turn around.
Then the voice added, "Don’t, there are spies of my brother in this tavern, if you don’t want to attract the guards immediately, it’s better we keep this method of communication for now."
After a pause, he continued, "I presume this gentleman beside you is the renowned Prophet Merlin, I’ve long admired your name."
Li Yu then said, "You could’ve just sat down in front of us directly."
"Ha, you know nothing of my brother’s methods..."
"Three," Li Yu interrupted him.
"What?"
"There are three spies that your brother has in the Grizzly Bear Tavern."
While speaking, Li Yu had already turned around to face a young male priest at the neighboring table, who was dressed in a white robe with blue edging on the cuffs, a belt cinched around his waist, and a purple kerchief draped over his shoulders. To hide the signature triangular ears of his family, he was also wearing a Lilipip Hat, seemingly engaged in a conversation with another female priest opposite him.
But soon, Hels noticed his companion’s change in expression.
Therefore, Hels also glanced back following her gaze, and then he couldn’t help but want to curse.
Because he saw that Ireya and Li Yu had left the cloaked figure they’d used to draw attention to languish there, and then both looked toward him.
Hels couldn’t keep up the act anymore, his face showing a trace of resignation as he gestured for the cloaked figure to leave, vacating the place, after which he himself walked over and sat down opposite Li Yu and Ireya, sighing and saying.
"Really, is the Arias family’s way of doing things this direct?"
"I admit, I’m not accustomed to beating around the bush," Miss Rabbit confessed.
"That approach won’t work in Rock Snow City," Hels said, "Just a reminder, my brother’s cavalry is just two streets away. Once the tavern’s watch signals our meeting, they’ll be here quickly, so we don’t have much time, and can only keep it brief."
"Don’t worry, your brother’s cavalry won’t come that quickly," said Li Yu.
"How do you know?" Hels squinted his eyes.
"Because his spies won’t be able to get the message out."
