Chapter 214: Chapter 62: The Yellow Sparrow

"Check to see if you’ve got anything extra on you," Li Yu reminded, "This is a trick some thieves and pickpockets often use. They’re very fast, but most of the time it’s to steal something."

The girl felt her clothes upon hearing this but didn’t find anything until she opened her purse and found a different gold coin inside.

There was no lion’s head on the gold coin, replaced instead by a sword and a silver moon.

"Just by bumping into me, they managed to slip this into my purse without me noticing?"

Miss Rabbit felt a chill recalling the incident, realizing that this was more difficult than taking her purse away.

In other words, if the other person wasn’t trying to pass on information but was actually a pickpocket, she would have had to say goodbye to her purse.

"Do you recognize this pattern?" Li Yu took the coin, looked at it for a few moments without any clue, and then asked the girl.

"I recognize that moon, it’s the symbol of the Silver Moon Church, but I don’t know about the sword."

"Is there a temple of the Silver Moon Church in Rock Snow City?"

"There is. Patrice Temple, it’s in the west of the city."

"Let’s go have a look," Li Yu suggested.

"Go now?"

"Mhm, if things are really as I suspect, that person won’t wait there for long."

"But... could this be a trap?" Ireya hesitated.

"It’s possible."

"Then I’ll go call Thomas and the others," Miss Rabbit said. She had brought quite a few people with her to escort Gabriel to Rock Snow City, but so many couldn’t possibly all stay in the Marquis Mansion.

David had arranged accommodations for them in a nearby inn; some had returned to Green Field after completing the handover, but about twenty guards were left, all elite.

But Li Yu said, "That would make too much noise."

"Then what do we do?"

"Don’t worry, I have a way to ensure our safety."

...

In the deep of the night, on the empty streets, there was only the figure of the girl.

She arrived in front of Patrice Temple, vigilantly looked around, and seeing no suspicious figures, she began to carefully scrutinize the row of buildings outside the temple.

Soon she found an ironsmith shop not far away with a sign hanging outside depicting a sword, which was strikingly identical to the one on the gold coin.

The girl knew this was the place she was looking for. She hesitated for a moment, then bravely reached out her hand.

But before her hand could touch the gate, the door boards split open, and a large hand reached out from inside, grabbing the girl and pulling her in.

"I apologize for meeting you in this manner, Miss Irelia."

The person tossed the girl onto a chair as if she was a small chick, and then a dagger appeared from the darkness, pressing against the girl’s back heart, "But we must ensure the Lord’s safety."

There was a pause before the person added, "We noticed that you didn’t bring any guards with you, which is good. Trust is the foundation of all cooperation."

At this point, the girl seemed to be too frightened to speak a word.

And the person who had dragged her through the door continued, "Miss Ireya truly lives up to her reputation as the successful Dragon Slayer Heroine, deciphering the clues we left for you so swiftly."

The girl trembled all over upon hearing this statement.

"Don’t be afraid, we won’t hurt you. Since you’ve come here, you must have developed suspicions about David. Next, we will take you to meet someone, and all the questions in your heart will be answered," the voice reassured her.

"But..." the girl stammered, only to be rudely interrupted by the other party, "We’re just here to pick you up. Save your words for the lord."

However, no sooner had he finished speaking than a torrent of hoofbeats sounded from outside the door.

The man’s face changed drastically, and he turned his head sharply toward the girl in the chair, asking viciously, "Your guards?"

"No, they’re not," the girl said, her voice tinged with a cry.

But the man was already too panicked to care, he told his companion, "Change of plans, bail out!"

The knife that had been pressed against the girl’s back vanished instantly, and so did the shadow that had loomed behind her.

The two didn’t take the main door but jumped out of a side window and fled down the alley; however, their pursuers were even faster than they had anticipated.

In the blink of an eye, the pursuers were right behind them.

The man who had spoken to Ireya earlier wore an ugly expression, "Where’s Nightingale? Wasn’t she supposed to monitor the nearby streets? Why didn’t she give us a warning?"

"Are you talking about this woman?" The cavalryman behind them threw something at the man’s feet.

When the latter looked down, he was stunned.

There lay the head of a woman, rolling to his feet—specifically, their accomplice who had bumped into Ireya earlier, the young girl selling pies.

"The Arias family’s warriors are so ruthless, no sense of limits whatsoever," the man clutching the dagger spoke in a hoarse voice.

The head cavalryman laughed heartily, "Who said we’re from the Arias family?"

Knowing that escape was impossible that day, the two exchanged glances before stopping in their tracks and turning around, only to be taken aback by the sight of two black feathers atop the leading cavalryman’s head.

"The Black Cluster Cavalry! Are you from the Figrola family?!" they exclaimed in unison.

"What else? You think Lord David didn’t know about all the wonderful things you’ve been doing in the city in secret?" the lead cavalryman said proudly.

Just then, someone brought Ireya out of the house and to the front of the lead cavalryman.

He immediately noticed the wet stains on the girl’s trouser leg.

Tsk tsk, scared into wetting herself?

The two guards escorting her struggled to suppress their laughter; seeing the renowned Dragon Slayer Heroine frightened into wetting her pants wasn’t something many could witness.

But the leading cavalryman quickly scolded them and then spoke gently to the girl, "Thank you, Miss Ireya, for helping us find this group of rebels hiding in the city."

Yet his tone soon became stern, "Now you’ll need to explain to Lord Iron Face why you were mingling with these rebels."

Upon hearing this, the girl shook even more violently. She had to exert all her strength to squeeze out a response through clenched teeth, "But... but I’m not Miss Ireya."

"What?" The lead cavalryman furrowed his brows and then had his subordinates remove the hood from the girl’s head to reveal a pair of fuzzy little short ears, not the distinctive long ears of the Arias family.

Shocked, the cavalryman demanded, "Who, who are you?!"

The girl covered her face, "I am just a maid from the inn. Miss Ireya found me and asked if I wanted to earn some money. All I had to do was wear her clothes and take a turn here, delivering a message, and I would earn five Gold Coins."
